  1. Just booked the Connie for 4 day Bahamas, and since the search function still seems down, hoping to have a few questions answered:

    1. Is there 24 hour food service (of some sort) in the buffet? Will have a cabin mate who turns in early, so room service late will be problematic.

    2. How dressy will formal night be? Recent short cruise experiences find them getting more casual every year.

    3. For Elite - where do they hold the nightly cocktail hour - Michael's?

    4. Anyone know of any links to current menus, daily programs for the Connie?

    5. And completely subjective - if you were going to only do one specialty restaurant during the trip, Blu or Ocean Liners? (I don't drink wine and don't eat steak, so Tuscan is out).

    6. Mini bar in a verandah - actual mini bar or empty fridge? If actual, is there room for a can of something or other?

    7. I get that free port day access to the Persian Garden, but on Millie found it kind of tired. How is Connie?

Wish she were going to be converted to Canyon Ranch Spa in time for my cruise, but oh well. I've become really good at shutting down the Steiner hard sell.

Thanks for any and all information!

  2. Hi all - I would have searched the forum but for some reason I'm not seeing the thread search links (has something changed since I was last on here?)

Anyway, have a 2B on hold, but can get a free upgrade to 2A because of my status. I'm guessing really no difference except location, correct? The 2B is deck 8 forward.

Anything I should know about the 2B - 2A balconies? The last time on Millie, I remember there being a difference within the same categories.

    Thanks!

  3. So sorry for your loss. My brother had wanted to retire in the Dominican Republic, and after he passed away far too young I was on the Caribbean Princess 6 months later and arranged for an ash scattering since it would pass by the Dominican Republic. There were 4 of us there, and the Captain did a very nice ceremony. I was told I had to have a biodegradable urn, and that was what we sent into the sea off the coast of the DR. I got a very nice letter from the Captain with the longitude and latitude, and just so happened to look at it 2 days ago, which is why I read your post. It was very peaceful. I hope the same for you.

  4. Never mind - finally got a search to work. This seems to be the answer (taken from another post):

There were some menu items that were always available:

    Shrimp Cocktail

    Escargot

    Caesar Salad

    Linguini Pomodoro

    Angus Beef Sliders

    Broiled Atlantic Cod

    Marinated Grilled Chicken Breast

    Aged Manhattan Strip Steak

    BBB Creme Brulee

    Chocolate Sensation

    Cheese Plate

    Main Lobster 24.95

    Surf and Turf 34.95

    Chops Steak 14.95

  5. Forgive me if this has been asked and answered, but there are over 400 posts here. Has anyone posted any pics of the new menus from a Freedom sailing?

Has anyone confirmed if there are still the "every day" choices?

Has anyone confirmed if there are still a la carte options, like a pay extra steak from Chops?

    Thanks!

  6. I've done a number of sailings as a gay solo and never had trouble meeting people. I think it's important to ask for a large table at dinner and you do have to be somewhat outgoing and willing to talk. Always check out the embarkation photos and look for singles and same sex couples and then keep an eye out on the ship :).

  7. Just back from Century 4 day. Two of us had premium alcohol packages and would both do it again anytime. For me, I know it was worth it as far as money goes and loved the fact that there was no bill on the last morning. For my friend, who doesn't even drink a lot, he thought it was great not to have to sign slips and also enjoyed being able to get what he wanted without thinking about the bill at the end.

BTW, Long Island Iced Teas are available on the classic package but I never did order a Jaeger :)

  8. TwilightZone - I know, but then I'd be smuggling - and we know how well that goes around here :) Someone on here must know the ship's price for Jagermeister! :)

Nauti - when you buy your package, they add the gratuity when you check out. Whatever you pay when you first purchase, is what you pay - no charges at the end of the cruise and no limits.

You can buy on-line ahead of time or buy onboard. I have read that you can buy the package up to 2 days before your cruise ends - but it is not retroactive. You are paying only for the time remaining on your cruise.

  9. I'm sailing single on Majesty of the Seas on 11/28/08. I was surprised to find that there were unadvertised single rates on this sailing. (150% it seems)... and checked other sailings and found the same... anyway, might be worth a look as I follow the RCI promowave specials and there have been no single specials advertised. For instance, you could get an inside (and even an outside) on my sailing for well under $200 single.

Mine was a Florida resident rate, but RCI offers resident rates to lots of states. Just be sure to change the number of people from "2" to "1", of course, before looking at cabin choices.

  10. C,mon y'all checking in (putting on my southern accent) - the specials end on Mar. 31... book and get a wonderful cruise out of FLL for next Feb/Mar...you can always cancel and forfeit $100, but don't you spend that on a night out every weekend? Caribbean Princess 2007 was a blast! And we're all heading back for 2008. Join us!

  11. Carnival attracts a very mainstream, middle America crowd... not that there's anything wrong with that... but definitely a more "traditional values" crowd and I think more opportunity for potential unpleasantness. But on one of the megaships doing a 7 day or more itinerary, you are going to get a more diverse crowd these days.

But I would absolutely avoid any 3 or 4 day party cruise on any ship, as the Monarch incident from last year indicated.
