Experienced a med “hurricane” on seabourn sojourn late Oct 2018. We were sailing North after Civitavecchia. Winds over 100mph off the coast of Italy Missed three ports due to damage at the ports etc Can be and mostly is fine. I should add that we sailed for 19 nights in the Med last October and the weather was gorgeous with flat calm seas for the most part and temperatures up to the mid to high 70s.
From Wikipedia
Storm Adrian was an intense Mediterranean storm which brought severe conditions to Northern Italy and surrounding regions. it was one of the costliest of the 2018-19 named storms, causing £2.9 billion (≥ €3.3 billion) in damages. It formed over the western Mediterranean Sea on October 28. The storm made landfall in Corsica on 29 October with powerful wind gusts in excess of 189 km/h (117 mph), winds the equivalent of a Category 3 hurricane. The storm made landfall along the French Riviera later that day, bringing high winds, heavy rain, thunderstorms and a severe storm surge. The storm's weather front brought similar problems to northern Italy and the Adriatic coast. Throughout Italy, 11 fatalities were reported.

What sight are you monitoring for sea conditions? We're booked on the Ovation departing Copenhagen on Jun 25; our crossing to Iceland from Gothenburg Sweden departs 6 pm Jun 26 with two sea days arriving Djupivogur, Iceland at 8 am on the 29th. A little anxious about the sea days although we did weather Drake Passage in Dec/Jan 2019. Hopefully weather might be calmer in late June.
I use passageweather.com. First saw it being used in Antarctica on seabourn and has served me well since. I particularly like the swell chart, which is the third one down after clicking on an area. When I looked in relation to the original post, at that current time it was showing a swell height of 8-10m. It can be higher. Always useful for the ferry crossing to Shetland in winter! The forecast is every so many hours then less frequent as time progresses.

The Seaborn rep said that the Serene area can only be booked on a daily basis ($29 per person per day), but there are no packages. I could virtually swear that we have purchased a package in the past. Has anybody noticed any on board specials for this 43 days (14 sea days) makes this a fairly expensive option when booked individually (as opposed by couple) for that long a cruise.
We always used to purchase a package at a reduced rate

I remember it too, hard to believe it was almost seven years ago though!
I must mention I noticed several posters who were regulars back then had posted on the 'Punctured' thread. I haven't seen them at CC for a long while.
Can’t believe it’s seven years ago!

On the Encore it’s currently 145$ a day for 2 of which you get 50$ credit to your Spa account. I have slot tomorrow, I’ll ask about a longer cruise.
This isn’t the serenity area, it’s the retreat?

Don’t they have a special menu for vegans/vegetarians anyway, like they used to?

I can’t help but wonder if this is the sweet spot for shareholder OBC and things may change going forward. I note that pre pandemic Carnival shares were £40-50 each, so to buy 100 was quite a significant outlay. Whilst I’m certainly not complaining (as I have benefitted from it), it seems a bit daft that an outlay of just £600-700 has enabled some of us with a number of cruises across several carnival brands to recoup 100% of our outlay in less than 12 months. We didn’t all buy at the current low share price though!

Yes, it was the Adventure Drive. But we do tend to “challenge” the program. While the group was listening to a 45 minute lecture on the history of The Gambia (which you can easily read yourself on Wikipedia), we wandered outside and played with the many kids for the whole time.Me too! Great idea

Good question. I’d like to know the same for 29 nights Sojourn (roughly). Thanks

Similar to margbem, I’ve been in shorts/sun tops hiking ashore from a cruise in July. It was in the 80s. Really does depend on prevailing weather patterns.

I tried a few weeks ago but no response. Also to a chaser. Think if you have a uk address you are ignored as per a previous poster. I won’t share the address I used (which has worked before) as I would be interested to know if it has changed.
Mysteriously, after posting this, the UK Office has contacted me late today after many weeks of not responding, to see if they can assist with one element of my query to the Office of the President (read between the lines - to sell me something) and they ‘believe’ someone on behalf of the Office will contact me. Well, gee, I won’t hold my breath. Thanks. The e-mail address is officeofthepresident at seabourn dot com. I hope you have more luck. The UK e mail then went on to say if you want anything else use the [standard email]. I thought the new president did want to hear our constructive thoughts. Perhaps not.

We didn’t do anything. The ship is handling it at a fee of $70 per visa.

Hi Floris. That’s really helpful thanks. I hope they do this for UK Citizens too

If anyone is reading this from the UK who
is onboard, would you mind sharing current visa requirements and how you dealt with these/ease/cost for the ports north of Cape Town, to Cape Verde please?
-
@shark b8 A few questions if you don’t mind please?
As the ship is now heading up the coast of Africa, would you say on this section of the voyage that port or starboard is better? Can you see the coast in transit so far? May be you could answer in a week or so. I presume starboard cabins get morning sun for the most part.
if it’s at all possible, it would be good to learn about excursion options from Namibia to Cape Verde please. I appreciate this would be time consuming though it’s a pity seabourn cannot share.
I’m really looking forward to your reports based on what you have already shared.
Thank you

Where’s next on the itinerary @shark b8? Looking at the sojourn Africa journey west coast 🤔

The next time you want to take a cruise find and book through a travel agent with experience and a big book of Seabourn business to help you the next time. Why? Seabourn thinks it is dealing fairly with you and you think otherwise. As you do not have a travel agent involved already you can only advocate on your own behalf or consider what it would cost you net to cancel and rebook.
Which TAs? I know of 2 who lots of European customers- in Cape Town and Reading UK. I hope that helps.
Happy and healthy sailing!
I have not always had the same experience as you markham with the same
Mediterranean Seas in early November
