  1. No ship of Celebrity had a climbing wall or a waterslide.

But Celebrity has a cool kids program. On our last cruise on the Eclipse, of the many children we noticed nothing because they were so busy

Agree, Our kids were 8 and 10 when in their first Celebrity cruise and still rave about it. They have a well run kids club which they loved and never missed the lack of a water park or rock climbing wall that are on RCI ships.

I can see a few venues already that I think they will enjoy (they are now young teenagers), the huge main pool being a major one!

  2. Blu on Silhouette did serve freshly squeezed orange juice. It tasted like it and when I asked, I was given the tour and met the young man whose job was to place the oranges in it. That has been a change over the last year.

Thats is a change (back) for the better! I don't really know why the stopped - we were on RCI Ovation of the Seas and they had the orange squeezing machines at a few venues.

  3. Fantastic video. Many thanks for sharing!

Like many I was sceptical of her design when first released but after watching her 'grow' and just now floated out of dry dock she has really 'grown' on me and I think will be quite a lovely looking ship once complete and all dolled up!

I do believe Celebrity have achieved a very modern, forward thinking design that they set out to do.

  4. Don’t think freshly squeezed juice is offered any more...they removed the machines something along the lines of it being hard to source consistent quality fruit? But they do have 'freshly squeezed concentrate' that’s not half as bad as it sounds [emoji39]

  5. I can say with 99% accuracy that their will not be a naked oil wrestling contest. They do slip those in once in a while.

    .

Really , I mustn’t be choosing the right itineraries [emoji12]

Does Celebrity provide the oil, or should I 'slip' some in with my carryon? [emoji43][emoji38]

  6. The OP's TA is getting a bit of a bad wrap...might be due the style of OP's writing or lack of facts as to the details of what their expectations of advising a special occasion were. The TA may have fully obliged and ticked the same special occasions box that we can if we book online. If so, job done I’d say.

If however a package was requested, or TA offered to do something special then I’d see where they are at fault. But I don’t see that info offered at this point.

I must admit on our first cruise after a dry (land!) spell of some 20 years we were celebrating my daughters birthday onboard - we had checked the special occasion. Or when booking and advised type of celebration etc. I was EXPECTING cake, champagne, singing and a Card.... we got a tiny cupcake delivered without even a Happy Birthday sung by the crew (due apparently to ongoing complaints from repeat cruise as they heard it too often and disrupted their dining experience [emoji15]).

Were we disappointed - well I was, but in the end that was due to my own false expectations from 20 years previously and having not checked or spoken to anyone to determine what was actually done.

Did it ruin our cruise, heck no...don’t even think it ruined our dinner! [emoji57]

  7. Not sure If it’d exactly the same but here’s a Rum Mule on the Ensemble Lounge cocktail list. It caught my eye last cruise and I ended up quite addicted to them! By half way through the cruise the bartender would make me one upon seeing me enter the lounge, and he also doubled up at the Sunset Bar where he would often 'tweak' the recipe so I could try some mule variations. Ahh that was a great cruise [emoji38][emoji484]d98895f30d75ffbc0fcb4a24279d8d73.jpg

  8. Yes, we've had some issues with booking them for only 4, but our TA always got us one in the end.

You make a good point that when the ship drops anchor, there are loud noises associated with it because of the FV's forward location.

Fortunately the 14 night Carib itinerary rarely has any ports requiring tendering. I can only recall tendering once and that was at St Thomas on a 6 cruise ship port day!

Wow - gorgeous shot - even if the port looks a little on the busy side! It was a South Pacific cruise we did - they do tend to have more tender ports as the infrastructure is not in place on the smaller islands visited.

Will have to keep trying to score a S class FV cabin on a future cruise!

  9. I smiled when I saw your post. For my first 14 night Carib cruise on Dec 2013, I booked a Cat 1A quad cabin for my family of 4 on the Eclipse. I later changed it to an FV cabin and I was very glad I did. We booked an Eclipse FV for our next two cruises including a second 14 night Carib). We are also booked in a Reflection FV for a 14 night Carib sailing in Jan 2019.

Right now we are sailing the Great Barrier Reef in a Solstice FV.

The docking maneuvers causes some shake of the cabin when the side thrusters are used. The amount of shake varies and it can be very small. Most of the time my family will sleep right through them.

If you have any questions about the cabin, let me know.

They sure are a great size and setup for families! Did you have any issues booking these for 4? I’ve always understood they will only pre sell them for 5 people or more, although have seen then open up online as sail date gets closer.

We too are a cruising family of four and have never had luck securing one, the one time we could it worked out cheaper to get two interconnecting cabins which did come with the added bonus of a 2nd bathroom!!

To to OP, we have had a cabin all the way forward and found the noise not that intrusive at docked ports. Tender ports however was a slightly different scenario.

There was an almighty commotion at around 4am the first morning when they dropped anchor - we woke up thinking we’d struck an iceberg or collided with another ship [emoji6]

We did get back to sleep though once aware what the all the noise was about. At remaining tender ports whilst it did wake us we did not mind it and easily drifted back off to sleep.

  10. Didn't realize how much smaller the Edge is compared to the Symphony of the Seas.

the Edge is no small ship on her own right - it’s more like not realising how much larger Symphony of the Seas is compared to the Edge [emoji38]

You sure do get a sense Of scale just how large the Oasis class ships are!

Been a silent but avid watcher of this thread. Been Marvelous having the ability to see Edge grow from a keel plate into the final modern lady of the seas she will soon become!

Thanks @Lloyd555 for the collating all the pictures, it’s been a fascinating journey and most appreciated!

  11. Enjoyable review, thanks!

Did this fantastic itinerary back in 2014 with our two children. We all still rave about that trip, it was one of our favourites. We had a week in Hawaii 1st before sailing home.

We have promised ourselves to repeat this trip, aside from a visit to beautiful Bora Bora all this sea days are a real enticement to us!

Have been aboard Solstice twice more since then, our last time was straight after her soft refurb in October last year. We were also quite surprises at how little seemed to have been done (I understand a lot of behind the scenes work occurred).

  12. I'm jealous - I didn't get the email :(

wonder how they determine WHICH Captain club members get their emails....

It’s as random as their website fixes [emoji13]. I got this email but miss a lot of others I see people talking about on here.

To add to the rumour mill I had heard they may be relocating Solstice to Europe ... which I’m not sure even if true would be considered HUGE News....but it is marketing hoopla after all!

  13.

I think the area looks interesting but the marketing campaign for it is VERY strange.

Yep they have gone 'overboard' with the marketing on this one. I'm not really reading into the religious aspect but the whole snake/apple intertwined into the logo, the colours ... it just doesn't look Celebrity or marry to any of the other modern contemporary Edge styling.

Personally I think the venue itself has a lot of merit. I think it's function will evolve however, if not before launch definitely after a few cruises that will quickly show what works and what doesn't. And hopefully those sea urchins are in the latter [emoji38]

  14. Not seen the video yet, but just reading these comments made me instantly think of Royal's Two70. I thought X would have wanted something different (at the edge) rather than getting ever closer to the Royal offerings?

No huge moving Robo screens or projector windows shown for Eden though. Maybe watching the bar staff run up and down the ladders for herbs will be enough visual excitement [emoji33][emoji23]

The jury is out for me too overall. I think they may be trying too hard. Great they are trying to be different though but hopefully not at the expense of the clientele it's meant to be appealing to.

  15. Lived on these on Solstice last October! The barman in Ensemble Lounge made the best one ever. I would often stop by to get one, or he also worked at the Sunset Bar so also got them there during the day. I know Mast Bar also made them but w're not as good IMO.

  16. It often goes down on the weekends for maintenance - although we've had trouble for a few days now. Not ideal when their so called 'sale' finished on the weekend!

strange but was able to check availability and pricing without issue from our TA's website without issue.
