  1.

Also, check out the "show us your aft" thread (just google it with Cruise critic in the search bar, it's one of the top results)...lots of photos to plow through, but you will find some of the same class as you are sailing. Congratulations on your upgrade! You will love this location! :D

(We also have 100 nights sailing Royal so maybe that's a magic number, and we were also 3 people traveling)

Here is a link to the thread... One of the best threads ever :D http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1243860

  2. Is it normal in America for people to book something and then cancel later with no penalties? I am aware that they have peculiar ways of life, but that takes the proverbial biscuit

Yes, it is completely normal for us to do this. Usually a hotel chain or cruise line etc. will have some sort of cut off date when penalties apply... so long as it is before that time, then we can cancel etc. without penalty.

I have been known to book more than one cruise I am interested in and then just watch for price drops and cancel the one that ends up costing us more.

  3. even after you make final payment, can you still change cabins with your t/a?

If you are from US, then no problem. Some other countries have different rules on this. We have made changes as close as a week before sailing when a better cabin location opens up or a chance to upgrade for next to nothing pops up.

  4. I say it's cutting in line if there is an actual LINE. If there is a gap in the line from someone taking their time scooping some mashed potatoes before the french fries, jump right in, but get right back out!

This is pretty much the rule I follow. If there is a gap at the one item I want, i'll quickly grab it and move on. No gap... and I go to the back of the line and wait my turn even if I'm just after one item.

That being said, if the person in front of me is being exceptionally slow or waiting for a specific item to come out (gap of approximately 10 feet or more), I have no problem just going around them.

  5. Maybe we are bad parents... We have never felt the slightest bit of guilt for leaving our kids to take a much needed vacation for my wife and I to reconnect. We miss our kids, but NEVER feel guilty. Spending time away alone with your spouse sets a good example for your kids about marriage IMO.

Our girls enjoy when my wife and I go on trips because it means that they get spoiled even more by their grandparents and we usually bring them back something they will like each time we go. We usually do 2-3 adult only weekend trips each year and one extended trip for our anniversary.

Go and enjoy spending time with each other!

  6. I don't know for sure, but I would think the inputs are activated in the suites because of DVD player. If the other inputs are off, you could disconnect the DVD player.

I know you aren't seeking opinions, but I think this is a great idea! Our kids can never sleep past 6:30-7:00 but they are too young to send them out to get themselves breakfast etc. while we try to sleep until a decent vacation hour. We are in a GS on Allure in a few weeks and if we weren't flying we would be bringing the Xbox. I guess the iPad will have to do.

  7. I agree about missing Park Cafe. We have come to enjoy the Park Cafe breakfast experience in the Solarium.

I know that Monarch used to have the roast beef sandwiches on the pool deck on boarding day for about an hour or two. Beyond that, I've not seen the roast beef sandwiches on other ships that don't have a Park Cafe.

Thanks Bob, fortunately my next cruise in on Allure in three weeks. At least I know I can get my fix then. We are staying on Deck 8 very close to the central park entrance. No telling how much i'm going to gain having easy access to Park Cafe!!!! If they would add the granola bars from Cafe Promenade, that would make it the ultimate dining venue!

  8. Park Cafe was not included in the recent Navigator enchancements.

Some early documents listed Park Cafe as being planned, but later documents had it missing from the list.

This was the venue I was most excited about being on the ships as they are revitalized. Too bad they seemed to have changed these plans.

Do you know what ever happened to the plan for the famous roast beef sandwiches to go fleetwide that they announced last year? Are the sandwiches available in some other venue? Here is the video that RCI put out about this. http://youtu.be/8M5_4ydqP0U

  9. Has anyone stayed in this room? I'm wondering if it will be noisey.

Also, am I crazy for booking 1 room for 5 adults?

We got Michigan residency discount and total for all 5 was 5207 with taxes.

    I would appreciate your advice.

    Thank you

    Sue

Yes, 5 adults in one room is crazy (but doable). Haven't been in that particular room, but noise shouldn't be an issue with passenger cabins above and below you.

Edited to Add: two connecting D4's for 5 guests is $5490 with Michigan discount, taxes included. Just sayin!

  10. I'm not trying to hijack your thread but I'd be curious if anyone had any experience with this on Oasis specifically

Our experience on Oasis was mixed. Not allowed in suite check-in area, however they were allowed priority boarding. Never attempted the lounges, so can't speak to that.

Shows were mixed results as well, just depended on the person checking. They did allow guests at Hairspray, but not for the Aqua Theater show. Concierge provided passes for guests to share cabana at Barefoot Beach.

I would say it seems that Barefoot Beach cabana is the only sure thing, everything else seemed to be at the discretion of the person in charge of a given area and how full it is. We would have never argued if/when they said no because we understood the rules. I will say that there were always empty seats available in the suite areas each time a guest was allowed, so no other suite guests were denied a perk because of our guests.

  11. Does anyone know if an "open" booking made onboard can be cancelled, and the $100 refunded?

    Thanks!

This information is several years old, so take it for what its worth. In the past people were able to apply it to an actual sailing (far enough out to be cancelled without penalty) and then cancel that sailing and get a refund.

If this is no longer possible, i'm sure someone will jump in shortly to explain.
