  1. Fresh-squeezed orange juice is available for a fee and is covered in premium drinks packages. The 18 voucher package doesn't cover premium drinks which would lead me to believe that your vouchers won't, either. The fruit juices on the following only refers to bottled juices:

18 DRINK COUPONS Save with freedom! 18 drinks of your choice that you can consume in bars and restaurants. Included drinks: call-brand spirits (premium brands not included), liqueurs, non-premium cocktails, wines by the glass, draught beer, bottled and canned beer, energy drinks and coolers, canned sodas, fruit juices, premium mineral water, coffee and chocolate based drinks, takeaway ice cream in a cone or cup.

Oops. I don't drink bottled juices and I usually drink one glass of wine/beer with meal.

For the Mediteranean cruise on Seaview, I won't have lunch on board except one sea day.

I am thinking of how to use 12 vouches in one week. Any suggestions?

Bottled water doesn't seem to worth one voucher.

  2. you should get:-

    1) a bottle of sparkling wine and chocolate strawberries on arrival in your cabin

    2) a complimentary dinner for two (the second person must share a cabin with the claimant) a specialty diner

    3) free voyagers club gift

    4) toweling bathrobe and slippers

    5) late cabin check out if you want, (up to 2 hrs from the time of docking)

You will NOT get a chocolate ship

You may get a gold lapel pin as this is your first cruise after attaining BLACK status

    Pete

Can I take the bottle of sparkling wine to the MDR to consume with my dinner?

    Thanks.

  3. So I couldn't find much documentation of status but found 2 old princess gold cards and a Marriott gold elite and sent info in and msc gave me gold and wife classic. So I called today and they gave us $200 credit back or so on our Deven be cruuse even though we paid in full months ago.

So go ahead and ask for it is what I learned. Also, because we booked in the USA this meditrain cruise automatically has free water in the dinning room without asking. 2 things I learned to ask for here at cruise critic. Thanks friends !

    Good to know. Thanks.

'Free water in dining room'? Does that mean free bottle water?

  4. We were in Alesund on the Koningsdam earlier this month. We also rented a car through Avis, a few months in advance. It was a very easy process. We drove out to Trollstigen via Andalsnes, then back around to the island of Alnes to see the lighthouse, go to the beach, and then back to town. A gorgeous drive all around. Trollstigen was fantastic. We had a manual transmission, which, IMO, is far easier to maneuver in this type of driving to control speed. The road itself is pretty hairy - there are a few spots that are for one vehicle only, and we had 2 buses trying to pass each other. It took a while and traffic became very backed up. But, the view at the top was amazing, and the drive down the other side was very pleasant.:D

Your route sounds good too. Is there a map to show the route you took?

I have reserved a car at Avis too.

Thanks a lot for the useful info.

  5. As Ine replied, no they are different. Troll road is actually called Trollstigen, an amazing road with the highlight being 2 waterfalls which flow under a road consisting of lots of hairpin bends. There are also lots of places to stop and admire the views on the way there and back from Alesund.

Eagle Road which has the Eagle Bend Viewpoint is near Geiranger and again is a road of hairpin bends with a viewpoint over Geirangerfjord that has views of the Seven Sisters waterfall.

Thanks so much for the clarification.:)

  6. In Alesund, we hired a car and drove to the Troll road and Troll Wall, on the way back we drove up to Aksla viewpoint. We were back in time to return the car a walk around the town.

In Geiranger, we did the Norway Excursions bus tour to Dalsnibba and Eagle Road. Amazing drive and views or Gerianger and the fjord.

In Bergen, we walked to the funicular and had a walk at the top of the hill. We then wandered around the town centre and walked back to the ship when it started raining.

    Hi Blocks,

Is Troll road and Eagle Bend the same?

I booked a car in Alesund to follow your route.

In Geiranger, I'll take the bus tour to Dalsnibba and not to the Eagle Bend as I think they are the same.

    Am I right?

  7. Answers below:

No I didn't use GPS, I think the car had it but it was in Norwegian. I printed instructions from Google Maps and researched using Google Street View.

I don't know what they were in NOK but I was charged just under £14.

    No ferry necessary.

Find out the speed limit in Norway for the open road although I wasn't in a hurry. I am not sure that there is a better way to do the route, I am sure that there are pros and cons both ways.

The scenery is amazing, photos don't do it justice. I will maybe upload some pics to this thread.[/quote

    Your pictures are marvelous.

Is gear box no. 1 good enough to go up?

What kind of rental car did you get?

Was it powerful to go uphill like that?

    Thanks.

  8. The drive was fine as the roads were reasonably quiet, you need to be careful at one part as you leave Alesund where you hit some roundabouts but signs are good in Alesund. Mostly the road signs were smaller than the ones I am used to in the UK. As long as you know which towns you need to turn off you should be fine locating the junctions. The Trollstigen road is well sign-posted from Valldalen. There were quite a lot of tunnels including one that was 6km long near Andalsnes but the views were spectacular, I liked the freedom that I could stop where I wanted and for as long as I wanted. There are a couple of tolls on the road between Andalsnes and Sjoholt but they are automated and quite expensive.

Yes. I like the freedom as you mentioned too.

Did you use GPS for this trip?

For paying tolls, do I need cash or it can be paid by credit card?

    How much were the tolls?

Any ferry ride in this route?

If you could plan again, any modifications would you like?

    Thanks again.:)

  9. I have just returned from a Norwegian Jade cruise which stopped in Alesund. We hired a car from Avis which is a short (10 min walk) from the dock. We were 2nd off the ship and picked up the car just after 8am. We drove to Trollstigen and Trollveggen stopping off at various waterfalls and viewpoints along the way. We did a circuit and were back in Alesund around 3pm. We drove up to the Aksla viewpoint and then returned the car to Avis before 4pm when the office closed. We then wandered around the town for about 1 hour until the heavy rain started and we returned to the ship.

Our route was essentially this - https://www.google.co.uk/maps/dir/Avis+bilutleie+%C3%85lesund,+Nedre+Strandgate+50,+6005+%C3%85lesund,+Norway/Trollstigen+Senter,+%C3%85ndalsnes,+Norway/Troll+Wall,+Rauma,+Norway/Aksla+Viewpoint,+%C3%85lesund,+Norway/Avis+bilutleie+%C3%85lesund,+Nedre+Strandgate,+%C3%85lesund,+Norway/@62.4461954,6.5364053,10z/data=!4m37!4m36!1m10!1m1!1s0x4616da3af8b094c3:0x3509e869ba66c98!2m2!1d6.1386038!2d62.470736!3m4!1m2!1d7.0986102!2d62.3409617!3s0x4616a0dfb071545d:0xc459b13e87eecddf!1m5!1m1!1s0x46140e73a9080343:0x58aeb47eee13f4fc!2m2!1d7.6632067!2d62.4535802!1m5!1m1!1s0x46140c3b9657f9cb:0xf7606439db4bc46a!2m2!1d7.7178023!2d62.485801!1m5!1m1!1s0x4616da43e06f7ce5:0xac4e477fec50ff3a!2m2!1d6.1640809!2d62.4742868!1m5!1m1!1s0x4616da3af8b094c3:0x3509e869ba66c98!2m2!1d6.1386038!2d62.470736!3e0

This sounds like a very good idea that we want to follow.

Monarch will arrive in Alesund 8am to 5pm.

How was the drive? Are the road signs clear?

We don't want to go on detour roads and eventually spent more time on the road and missed the ship.

    Thanks:)

  10. Hi, LP 31 is in the commercial part of the Port of Rostock, across the river from the cruise terminal in Warnemuende. As explained before Warnemuende is a seaside suburb of the City of Rostock.

For details on places to go in the area, how to get there from both the cruise terminal and the other berths (LP31, LP41), timetables and fares etc. please see the relevant pages on my website

    www.travelanni.webs.com

    Happy cruising :)

    Anni

Thanks a lot for the clarification and the useful information on your website.

Is car hire available at LP31 where Monarch is docked?

If we hire a car 8:30am - 7:00pm, can we do LP31 -- Schwerin-- Wismar-- Bad Doberan-- Rostock-- Warnemunde -- LP31?

If Bad Doberan is out of the way, we can skip it.

    Thanks again.

  11. Hi Anni,

Four of us (all adults) will arrive Rostock on Pullmantur Monarch on Aug. 12 at 8am and will leave at 8pm.

Any suggestions as to what to do from 9am to 7pm?

We don't want to venture to Berlin.

We may go to Rostock City Centre, Schwerin Castle and Molli train.

Can these be done in our restricted time (9am-7pm) and how?

We are open to suggestions as this is the first time for us visiting Germany.

    Thanks.

The address of the Rostock cruise terminal is:

    Rostock Warnemunde

    Am Passagierkai

    18119 Rostock

Is this the same as Warnemunde?

    Thanks
