  1. We southerners?

It is an age thing in my reality.

If you are a child and calling a person by their first name, like a friend of your Mama's or your kindergarten teacher, then add Miss.

When we are all adults, then that should be over.

When other adults start with the Miss stuff, it means that they see you as being much older than they are.

As for the steward, he/she can call me by my first name or Mzloolue.

    Either will do.

The steward is not my servant.

He or she is working, but I am not their boss.

I treat them like I would expect to be treated.

I'm 46 so I guess that makes me old :) I still say "sir" & "ma'am" ... even to younger folk.

  2. Well, to each his own, I guess. I like the fact that they call us by Mr. or Miss with our first names, rather than our last names. i think it helps break the ice and not get things too formal. To me, it sounds friendly, and yet respectful. Perfect for the "unstuffy" cruise Carnival tries to be.

Using title + first name in salutations is a southern mannerism.

  3. Or... I could spend $800 for the Cheers package on Carnival (cause you've got to pay for 2...) or just go to the Cocoa Publix and get a liter of Rum for $25 and take it onboard DCL...

Not sayin' DCL is cheap, just that you need to take everything into consideration...

Liter of rum ... what do you drink on the second day? :)

  4. We use to bring an old cup for the free fountain drinks and the leave it in the ship. However, I seem to recall from the Getaway that there were signs saying to use the ship's glasses, which probably makes since because no one wants to wait behind the person filling their big gulp glass :)

A cup is nice for mixing your Jack and cokes from the rum runner in your cabin.

  5. We were on her last week ... sports bar and martini bar upgrades with some work still being done on Deck 10 aft (past the aft pool). No improvements to the common areas or cabins that we saw ... still large tube TVs and moldy tile in our aft extended balcony cabin on deck 8 :). Nonetheless, she is a fun ship!

  6. Cruising is evolving from being all inclusive to being a floating hotel.

Depending on the location of your cabin, room service for $8 is not a bad deal - I would probably tip the deliverer that much anyway. Then again, I have lived in places where I would not blink twice at paying $7 for a bottle of domestic beer and $12 for a mixed drink.

  7. The complaining is done by folks who don't spend much beyond fares. They are like my parents with whom we cruised last week: don't drink, don't gamble, and left the ship with less than $200 tab for both of them. However, my spouse and I spend a heck of a lot more money during the cruise on drinks, dining, casino, and extra tips. For us, these little bumps are "budget dust" - if you have to sweat a few extra dollars a day, then you are not on vacation. :)

  8. So is it double sized? For instance, I get a Kahlua and cream after dinner...is it just twice as much Kahlua or twice as big? Sounds like a good deal! We had this offered to us once a few years ago. I didn't know it was a regular thing.

Nope, it is usually just a double shot maybe in tall glass, but not twice the size. For an extra $5 you get to tilt your head backward over the bar and get a three count pour of your choice.
