I noticed one of your posts on the MSC board. I guess the same thing is going on there also. I’m staying in the YC in April and I don’t have a clue what drink package or brands I’m entitled to. One poster says this, one poster says that. I’m getting kind of fed up with the whole thing.

I saw a post that the YC get their Premium Plus.

This is where a TA is extremely helpful. Let them do all that legwork for you.

We waited for our loyalty match to be approved, because it gave us an extra 5% discount. You can't retroactively get the 5%. We are platinum on Princess, and MSC put us at gold status.

I am booked in YC (11 day cruise to Canada) on Meraviglia thru one of their cruise consultants. He explained to me about status match and to apply for it as NCL Platinum for DH and Platinum + for myself. Once I got the approval of status match to Black I was to contact him about discount. I not only got the 5% Black discount retroactive, but also the 15% select voyage discount bringing my cost from 6000+ to less than 4800.  Included mini bar and drinks with no added gratuity. As a frequent Haven cruiser, I was thrilled with this. Now after this new beverage package that NCL has started, all I have to say is ‘Goodbye, NCL’.  Apparently Platinum + loyalty has no no meaning to you anymore.

I only remember the name of a couple but the hands down best CD I've sailed with is Matt Baker.  He is long gone from NCL but the 10 day cruise on the Dawn in January 2011 was the best cruise I've taken (over 20 cruises).

Absolutely. Had him on our first NCL cruise the Dawn 2010 to Canada and NE. Loved how he would sing ’Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah’ over the PA around 7:30 am. He is the main reason I stayed with NCL.

  4. Who did you book it with?  I would check that they have the correct information. Sometimes when you add an address of someone else included in cruise, they use the newest one and they change your info to theirs.  If you have a PCC, you could have always taken it up with them ahead of time. I book all my cruises and I always get the luggage tags sent to me because I check the confirmations.  When I added my son to our cruise, they automatically changed my address to his, but my PCC caught it. Always good to double check with whoever booked it.

  5. I personally love the Courtyard area. My last 5 or 6 cruises were in an H5 and that’s the only one I would book.  On our Escape last month,  I was lucky to get the H4 2 bedroom upgrade which worked out for our son to have his own room. But depending on your destination, mine were Alaska and Canada/NE, I didn’t have much of a chance to use the balcony because of the weather.

I like being near the lounge and of course, the bar. Hate to think of that long walk just to get a drink from a familiar face and quickly at that (even though you can partake anywhere) or to enjoy the restaurant, especially for breakfast. The bartenders are the best because they know you and your favorite drinks and being right there all the time, they’re super attentive to you and very personable.

  6. I changed my settings to one email per day with new posts/forums that I follow. So far, zero email notifications not even weekly. And yes I hit the save changes button. I think an app is the way to go for us that don’t sit in front of a computer all day and night.  I could sit on my couch and read or post easily on either IPhone or iPad. I really don’t like the bookmarking of every forum to find it faster.

  7. It is my understanding that since Edinburgh was a tender port there were no port fees paid to begin with so no refund of what wasn’t paid in the first place. I’m not an authority on this and this is what I heard from the captain at the “Meet the Ship’s Officers.”

During that extra sea day the captain was highly visible walking around the ship and talking, explaining, and apologizing to passengers for skipping that port.

I too thought this was the best cruise I’ve ever taken. The crew was fabulous.

On Escape 9/23-30 we skipped Bar Harbor which is also a tender port and we were all refunded 27.00 each

  8. No, we're on the 10/18. I was originally on the 10/8, but there was "a conflict". Personally, I prefer your itinerary, never been to Quebec. But, I'm excited just to sail MSC out of NY.

I really loved the Divina experience.....I'm a very blingy person.....and I'm hoping the Meraviglia won't disappoint.

Sorry to hear that. That’s what I like about this one. Different ports that we haven’t been to. I’m thinking of the Divina in Jan 2020. We’re in the YC on this one. How did you like the Divina?

  9. I sailed on the Davina a couple of years ago and loved it despite "not the best" reviews. I have the Meraviglia booked for 10/2019....and have been reading the ( really awful) reviews. It seems nobody has anything good to say.

I generally don't care about bad reviews, but I can't seen to find good reviews for this ship.

I have no interest in the Yacht Club. I have no interest in drinks (although we have some drink package). I actually have limited interest in the food (save but for the pizza) as long as fruit and vegetables are available in the buffet.

I care about the the entertainment and the "international ambience" of the ship. I care about a decent gym with adequate exercise machines. I care about decent service, but I don't expect every worker to become "my bestie" for the week.

So....can someone comment? Will this ship be completely different from the Davina?

Are you on the 10/8/19 to Canada? We are too!

  10. Demand? They give it away ... so how is there demand? Virtually no one pays the $89 or now $99 per day ...

No, but they do pay 20% gratuity on that extra $10.00 per day per person which is another $4.00 per day. Our 13 day TA price is $52.00 less for gratuity than when I checked today.

I also found out on my last cruise that the bartenders do not get that 20% tip added on to their account. I was under the impression that when they swiped their card before mine, it showed who served the drink, therefore giving them part of the 20% I paid on the package. Not so! Even though I paid gratuity I still throw a few dollars down every time we order so at least they know I appreciate their service.

I was replying to dexddd about the form and just quoted his post to me. So why the vocabulary lesson?

You apparently left out one of the other definitions which is,

“The place at a port, airport, or frontier where officials check incoming goods, travelers or luggage.”

Of where I was at (the port) and where officials check travelers or luggage, both of which I am and had.

I was given the form at the Haven check in and questioned them about it. They said it was for Canadian customs.

Since I was on the same cruise you were I no longer need to finish reading your review even though I enjoy them.

  12. Hi, please bear with me...it's my first cruise of my life! :loudcry:

I saw shampoo & soap are provided for sure, but how about conditioner and body lotion?

if yes, which brand will be? and we can ask how much as we need?

Our family will stay in H5 of Gateway in 2 weeks!

Now I am making a packing list;)

You will get separate bottles of conditioner and body lotion. Bulgari brand.
