  1. No, swim diapers are not permitted. If she's not completely potty trained, keep her out of the pool. One accident would mean the pool would need to be drained and completely sanitized so it would be closed for at least a day. Not a way to endear yourself to fellow passengers.

I'm afraid I have to question the integrity of someone who would knowingly bring a sick child with a contagious illness on a cruise ship and expose thousands of others. And people blame the ship when they get noro - it's your fellow passengers.

You question the integrity of someone who travels with a kid (or adult) who has a COLD? Get real

  2. Best bet is keep your expectations minimal. Make time for normal routines and naps.

I wouldn't recommend anything bigger than an umbrella stroller.

At that age when I had my son on a cruise I took lots of sunscreen, bibs, wipes. Extra clothes. Hats. Had a stash of small toys that were "delivered" during nap time so something occupied him while I got ready for dinner.

On the allure I think you have a splash zone the little can use which is good since unless he us fully PT he can't use the pool.

  3. I went on that boat last year, we just borrowed one from the nursery for the week for free. That way I didn't need to take it on the plane.

I wouldn't want to chance getting there and not having one available. Or being disgusted by it :)

Umbrella stroller worked well for us when our son was just shy of 2. That was hard enough to move around in the crowds. Can't imagine using a big one.

  4. That is because it is not their job to answer petty questions for passengers who think they are more important than the other 99% of people who can wait until they board.

I have never emailed ahead for a cabana and I would be embarrassed to. I have always gotten a cabana on the first night of the cruise. Let them take care of their current responsibilities and if they get ahead they may email you ahead of time.

Ummm. So incredibly NOT unusual for a cruise/hotel/resort concierge to chat with and arrange accommodations for future guests ahead of time. It's part of the job.

  5. Izumi was the only specialty restaurant I went to twice on Rhapsody (Giovanni's and Chops were both great, don't get me wrong). I wouldn't recommend the hot rock though unless you have young kids who mind find it fun, otherwise you're just paying to cook your own food (which is just fairly plain meat and veg). Everything else was great (the sashimi was a bit grainy, I imagine the fish had been frozen as this was on night 11 of the cruise). The rolls were all great.

The fish likely has been frozen at some point (to kill parasites). Nothing to do with eating there late in the cruise. Not sure whose food handling laws are followed at sea but I think US law says all sushi fish except tuna has to frozen at some point.

  6. This same situation just happened to me. I booked for January 2015 and in march the cruise was listed as n/a. I couldn't get any answers from Royal Caribbean so I did a Google search and found that a heavy metal group of about 60 bands had chartered this ship for my dates. Finally royal Caribbean called me and said I had to change my date since the ship has been chartered.

Good luck hope this doesn't happen to you.

I think that's horrible. They shouldn't allow any ship that has existing bookings to be turned into a charter...ceetainly not without compensation to you.

  7. We are on the GOS. We booked adjoining rooms, but when we arrived we promptly discovered our rooms were NOT adjoining. We have a 4 yr old who is now bunking with us...and because we don't have a sleeper, she is in our bed. Yes, so far we are having fun. But, this is not at all what we told we would have nor is it the restful trip we thi ught we would be taking. So, what would you do in so far as formally complaining/requesting? (Because of the kids free promo there isn't any open rooms for us to switch to)

Did they switch your cabins? Not understanding how you had confirmed adjoining rooms but now don't.

IF THEy moved you or the error is theirs I would request a refund of at least one cabin. I might even press for a significant credit for a future cruise as well.

  8. I was told by RCCL the 2-20 year olds still needed the letters and could also not be booked without an adult in their cabin even right directly across the hall from us. Although I originally booked their cabin directly with RCCL and they did book them across the hall and said it was okay. Upon calling in final payment - the said security would flag them and not allow boarding for them. That I need to put an adult in their room. Has anyone else done this?

Needing permission to travel from a minor's guardian (they aren't minirs) and needing to have a 21 year old in the cabin are two different things.

You might be able to get away with connecting cannons if you are the only one over 21. Otherwise just put a 21+ in each cabin on paper and switch keys on board.

  9. Well said! :D:thumbup:

BTW, adult passports are good for TEN years. I assume that a child's passport is the same (but I'm not positive since I have no reason to check). And the required photos can be purchased for $8 at walgreens, CVS, etc.

A child's passport is only valid for 5 years

  10. If you mean will the cruise ship move you to accommodate soneone else wanting connecting rooms I believe the answer is no. I believe this because I get messages when trying to book about connecting rooms not being available.

  11. Well, since she called you about the dining options, what did she say?

Also, I thought you were going to be able to make reservations ahead of time.

We're booked in April on Quantum, but we haven't heard anything. Although, we're not actually going in April. It's just a dummy booking til they open up fall 2015 and we can switch it.

What's the value if doing this vs just waiting until the cruise you want opens?

  12. On Carnival I left my 10 year old on the ship. He had privileges to sign himself in and out of Camp Carnival. I would never have done it if it wasn't for the Carnival staff reassuring me. I was told there was no way he could leave the ship, which he wouldn't have anyway, and I was assured there was security and cameras everywhere. I saw much younger children running around by themselves.

My son had to lave a note in his room letting me know where he was going to be. And most of the time he was where he said. A few times he wasn't but he was always back in his room by curfew. Sometimes with candy. sometimes with icecream:)

MOST of the time he was where he said he would would be. Oh. Thats reassuring. Good thing you took the cruise where there were no accidents or criminals or pedaphiles aboard.

    Sheesh.

  13. Not mine..........

I am with you. I am bringing our sitter along expressly so I have the option if leaving my child onboard in one port. Would never leave my kid on board even in the kids club if I and my spouse left the ship. What, I wonder, is the ships protocol if the parents miss the ship?

  14. On the other hand it might be a great time to get them to expand their tastes since you can order something else if they don't like what they get. Better than paying for something and them not eating it.

When did those get to be considered staples anyway? Didn't kids still eat before chicken strips existed? lol.
