You can do that. However I suggest doing Horseshoe on Wednesday and doing the Jet Skis on Friday morning. Friday May 24 is Bermuda Day which is a major holiday. Horseshoe Bay will be packed. That day is the date Bermudians consider the start of the beach season. Friday would be a good day to stay near the Dockyard and do the Jet Skis.

There is no free ferry to Hamilton. You will need to take the public ferry for Harbour Nights. $5 cash or $4.50 if you buy a token. NCL only runs a free ferry to St. George’s.

Thank you!!!  I had read on previous posts to NOT go to Horseshoe Bay Beach the first day as everyone goes there and it’s very crowded, but it makes sense to avoid it on Friday. We only need to spend 2-3 hours at the beach to relax and walk the beach.

Any suggestions for Wednesday afternoon  before heading to Hamilton? Or is there enough to see/do there before Harbour Nights starts?

  2. We will be on the NCL Escape arriving in Bermuda on May 22nd and staying for 2.5 days.  I'm trying to put an itinerary together and would love any suggestions/comments.

    Wednesday:

IF the weather is nice, do a jet ski tour right from Royal Dockyard in the morning

    afternoon - ?

take the late afternoon free ferry to Hamilton for Harbour Nights

    Thursday:

    Ferry to St. George

    Crystal Caves

    Tobacco Beach

    explore St. George

back to ship for dinner (right now this was the ONLY day/time we could get dinner reservations for Cagney's 😞 )

    Friday:

    Horseshoe bay beach

    back to ship by 2

  3. We booked last week for a May 2019 cruise and the price went down.  I called NCL and was offered a one time option of an upgrade ( same cabin type just a higher floor) or OBC equal to 25% of the price drop (for us $50 total).  I chose neither to see if the price drops more.  I’m OK if we lose the $50.

  4. We booked a May, 2019 Bermuda cruise on the Escape on Tuesday, and yesterday there was a price reduction.  I called NCL to see if they would give me a price adjustment or OBC and was offered a ONE TIME choice of upgrading our cabin (same cabin type MC, just a higher floor) or OBC equal to 25% of the price difference (which would be $50 of OBC).  Since there are alot of cabins still available, I've decided to do nothing to see if prices still drop.  From there I can decide if were going to change to a cabin with a better balcony or take OBC.

My question is IF there are further price changes (up or down) when does NCL post those?  Is it first thing in the morning?  Or is it all day depending on the availability of cabins?

    Thank you,

  5. We are taking our first cruise on the Escape and booked a mini-suite, it was cheaper than a regular balcony.  I saw a video on-line of a mini-suite and the balcony looked tiny...barely enough room for 2 chairs and a small table.  We like to eat breakfast on our balcony on sea days and I'm not sure the balcony/table is big enough to do this.  The mini suite we have (MC) has a balcony of 44 sq ft.  On the NCL website it lists regular balconies (BA, BB, BC) with balcony sizes from 32-108 sq ft.  How do I figure out which category have the larger balconies?  I'd consider paying a bit more $$ for a bigger balcony.

  6. We will be in Bermuda on Wednesday, May 22nd on the NCL Escape and Harbour nights will be going on.  Does anyone have any experience/information on this festival?  Is it better to book a restaurant for dinner?  Can you see the parade from street level?  How crowded is the 9:45 ferry from Hamilton to Dockyard?

    Thanks,

  7. Hubby & I have decided to book our first NCL cruise for May 2019.  On the NCL website it says the Spring sale ends today.  I have left a message for the NCL personal cruise consultant who I spoke to in the past about this cruise, but have not heard back yet (I understand that she probably has repeat customers she needs to help first, etc.)  Is it OK to wait and risk missing today's sale?  Or am I not missing anything if I don't hear back until tomorrow?

  8. I am looking to book my first NCL cruise for May 2019 on the Escape to Bermuda, and MC cabins are cheaper than BB & BC cabins.  Is there a reason suites would be cheaper than balconies?  Is there pros/cons to booking a suite over balcony? If room location matters I'm looking at MC (11190), BC (11758) or BB (13758). The price difference between MC & BB is $180.

Thank you for any help & advise.

  9. I'm looking to book a cruise for May 2019 on the Escape to Bermuda, we (hubby & I) have cruised Royal & Carnival before.  We usually book a balcony cabin. Since this is a large ship and there seems to be only one main pool, I'm guessing chair hogs will be out in full force.  Having 3 sea days, we will like to spend some time relaxing and getting some sun.

With that in mind, is it better to:

book a regular balcony cabin and then get either Vibe or Thermal spa passes?

    book a large balcony cabin?

    book a spa balcony cabin?

Are their any perks to booking a mini suite balcony?

    Thank you,

  10. I guess this is a silly question, but I'm looking to book a Bermuda cruise for May, and am wondering if waiting 1 week is going to really matter if we want to go swimming?  I am looking at the 5/26-6/2 NCL Escape, however if I book the 5/19-26 cruise it gives me an extra day off as 5/26 is Memorial Day.  The cost is comparable , so it's just a matter of the extra week for the water to warm up.

    Thoughts?

  11. Hi 01Sweetpea. Thank you so much for the kind words and I'm glad that you're enjoying my review. Hmm...a camera lens question. These can be tricky to answer as there are so many variables that can go into an answer and most of them are personal so there never really is a true, set answer. However, with that said, I will do my best. First let's look at your camera body. A Canon EOS Rebel is a good, reliable entry level dSLR. I'm not sure which model you have so I can't really comment on whether it is getting old in terms of technology or if you have a more modern megapixel count.

    Cheers,

    Trip

Hi Trip - I tried to figure out how to private message you, but don't know how, and I don't want to take up your review. We have a Canon EOS Rebel T31, it's 4 years old, but works fine. I was thinking about getting a new camera body & lens to avoid having to switch lenses all the time(which is what we do now. :D:D)

    Thanks,

  12. We just got back from Galveston, and took an Uber everywhere.

UberX from IAH to Galveston (Springhill Suites on Broadway) was $70 and took 1 hr 10 min

UberX from hotel to Galveston pier was $8

UberX from hotel to port was $16 (due to traffic and a quick stop at Target)

UberX from port to IAH was $85 and took 1 hour 20 min

I will say make sure you give yourself enough time when disembarking the ship to get to the airport. It took us 1.5 hours from when our number was called to leave the ship until we cleared customs. Then 15 minutes for Uber to get to us then almost another 1.5 drive to the airport.

  13. We just got back from Galveston, we stayed at Springhill Suites on Broadway with Marriott points. Clean hotel, decent room, OK breakfast, (hotel was fully booked so dining area was crowded and they ran out of a lot of food) but NOTHING is within walking distance.

Uber is easy to use (download the app if you don't already have it). We took an Uber to the Galveston pier, cost $8. Uber to the port was $16 because of traffic.
