  1. Do you have some kind of Death Wish?!?!

    Den

Funny response but in reality I do not think any wife would book that for their husband unless they wanted to have a fight/divorce.:p

    It was a joke.

Actually when we are at a pool or any place where there are pretty young things floating or jiggling around she is my wingman. I'll be sitting in the lounger reading and she'll jab me and say "check those 2 bikini girls out over there"

Her reply when friends ask why she does that "He's harmless":D And we all laugh.

  2.

    ...>>>SNIP<<<...

    Jazz in the Ensemble lounge

Then if we book an S ship for 2015 that is where our asses will be glued!!

    Rap:eek: Metal:eek: Techno:eek:

Leave that for Carnival. Or maybe in one of the 7 lounge rooms on the Oasis class.

Oasis class draws heavily from around the world - S. America, Europe, Asia, EuroAsia etc.

In large part these are family groups who have enough money to fly to Florida and book suites etc. So they have money and do they spend? Yes!!!!!

We saw one Castillian family in the Promenade on formal night with an attractive mid 20's daughter dressed in a slinky pants outfit. She spent 15 minutes posing with the replica 1936 MB parked in the middle of the Promenade. The photographer took 30 pictures of her draped across the car and everybody was watching. We found out later that they bought most of the 30 pictures as well as maybe more then a hundred other photos.

Real spending here. By 2020 RCI will have 5 Oasis class and 4 Quantum class circling the globe.

  3. Assuming that the OP was looking for info on entertainment such as music acts, Allure is geared towards the under 50 crowd much more so then Princess. Because the ship is so well designed it is possible to have 6 or 7 musical acts going on at once in different parts of the ship so you can easily zero in on what you want to go to.

And nothing compares to the Broadway production of "Chicago" except for "Hairspray" on Oasis.:)

Not to mention the other main theater production of Blue Planet, using the Broadway cast and the Olympic caliber aerialists and gymnasts. Or the great ice skating show "Ice Games". Or the Aquatheater water spectacular. Or the Promenade parades and 70's night in the Promenade with up to 1,000 people well spread out dancing the night away.

We are in our late 60's and have a fine time so I guess your party would also.

  4. In reading this thread I was upset that the acopella groups and Filipino party bands were gone. We were on the Solstice in 2010 and the Silhouette in Dec 2011 and Sipra was on both. The Les Demerle jazz group was on the Silhouette.

It seems the very large Oasis class, which can front six groups playing at once in different locations, still has some good groups tolerable to us 60ish cruisers. But even they are moving younger faster and faster.

Allure had the traditional Calypso band playing on the pool deck in December.

    We can't stand rap. Period.

  5. Will you be posting any pictures of your selves? Always like to match a face to the travelers.

Our booked July 5th Jewel itin has all different stops then the following July 12th itin, except for St. Kitts. Seriously debating taking the second week so I am interested in your 2 week report. B2B are always interesting. We already will have paid the airfare and will use Marriott miles for pre and post cruise stays in PR.

  6. It's not just the rink, you have performer changing rooms, storage rooms and control rooms taking up the entire width of the level.

We did a backstage tour of the ice rink on Oasis and they are cramped compared to Voyager and Freedom class ships. On the two big girls, there are corridors going around the rink which limits the backstage area available to the performers and storage space.

  7. Going going gone sale used to be Tuesday sale for CandA members,we could get next Tuesday sale prices by Thursday before.Prior to everyone else we could buy cruises on Monday. Now with holiday and the sales new name I wanted to know new procedures.Sorry sometimes my brain and typing finger don't always work as a team.LOL A couple of beers don't help either

    I'll drink to that.

  8. We live in Boynton Beach, 30 miles north or so. Looks like a good day to head on down to FLL, park in our secret public parking spot and walk 4 blocks to the rocks at the end of the beach and take loads of photos with the superzoom cameras.

Then on to Gilbert's 17th Grill for great burgers. Owned by friends of ours, also refugees from NY.

High 70s, not too windy, a perfect day. Those rocks can get very windy exposed as they are.

  9. We like and cruise both lines.

Oasis class is designed to spread the people all over the ship so no central gathering place area is on purpose.

Last time I looked, Celebrity S class had wide shopping corridors on deck 4 and 5, "mall" like.

I like the S class pool deck Mast Grill with dogs and burgers, wish RCI would put them on their ships.

Plenty of outdoor eating places on Oasis class, Wipe Out Cafe, Solarium Cafe, Johnny Rockets (brkfast) Dog store on Allure only. In addition to Park Cafe.

Oasis class, with slightly smaller cabins, has better storage then the S class. I think because the S bathrooms are very large and consume lots of space.

I like both lines and will return to =X= after we do our 3 itinerary-driven cruises on RCI in 2014.

  10. We live in an active over 55 community (which started life as a regular development.) No bus service in or out so you must have somebody who drives. Also it is a long walk out of the development. We do have some older residents, usually 'rounders, but a large % are 'birds.

The social club does sponsor a cruise early in December but almost all participants are mobile.

Once both lose their mobility they move to a place with bus schedules in and out.

  11. It was hazy that day.

These were NOT taken with your iphone. What is your regular camera? << edit>> Olympus SP815. 44.9 zoom. I am learning how to extract info from Flicr.

<<edit>> Amazing how maneuverable these big ships are. Allure appears to be aimed head on into the pier at Crown Bay and then quickly spins 90 degrees to come along side. I thought it would angle past and then back in.

    Terrific pictures as always.

  12. We were on the Allure and I have a few pictures of the RP from Crown Bay (using the incredible 60x1 zoom of a high end Lumix bridge camera) as well as some shots of the Allure and RP docked together in St Martin.

I'll post them in a day or so now that they have been offloaded to my storage external hard drive. First I have to set up a Flickr account.

This was the 12/8 sailing with the snapped cable on Life Boat #1 that delayed us getting to St Thomas by a few hours. Look at picture # 3 and you can see the empty davit at the front of the starboard side.

    Thanks for these pictures Dave.

  13. Reading your thread, I have a new found appreciation for the Oasis class. It is big which seems to frighten the seniors away, all that walking (they think). In actuality, the width gives it the gigantic specs, not the length, which is not that much longer the the Independence class. Indy holds 4200 at full load, same as the new Royal Princess, which is 12% smaller. I have been lurking over on the Princess board and that ship is seeing fist fights over elevator issues as well as pissed off seniors dumping wine glass contents over somebody's head. Elevator frustration and all that.

In this same time frame we took the Celebrity Silhouette out of Bayonne in Dec 2011 and they couldn't fill the ship until they REALLY cut the prices and then Brighton Beach showed up in full force (da) all 900 of them on a 2,800 pax ship. No large concentrations of seniors in NY that cruise. The lines always have problems in early December before the families descend for the holiday sailings.

    I won't bitch over the snapped cable on Allure's Lifeboat # 1 any more.:D
