It’s crazy during family time.  On the Eclipse in South America the pool was filled with kids entirely and it was unusable.  Plus I think one of them might have splashed me.  😭

     The Solarium has family time?

It was a Sunset Veranda which has always had at least one. The balcony is huge. We were told no due to safety reasons.

I am so very annoyed at this.

We just booked our first suite at a hefty price specifically for the large balcony and these loungers. And now this.

This was our balcony on Ascent last week.

This is exactly what I’m expecting for our Oct Beyond cruise in a Magic Carpet end suite. I’m going to be so annoyed if those loungers aren’t there. I’m planing on spending a large part of our ABC cruise on it.

I don’t want to hijack this thread, but thought I’d add that we did an Arctic crossing on Royal in September 2022 to Iceland, Greenland and the Arctic circle. We didn’t even bring an insulated jacket, instead dressed in layers. Most days temps were 40s, maybe up to 50.

The key for me was I have a fairly light rain jacket that nothing can get through, so the very windy and cold day we had when we cruised Prins Christian Sund in Greenland, everyone -  including most of the staff on the ship - was on the top deck for the views.  The rubber jacket blocked all wind. If it was very chilly, I wore a light thermal shirt tucked into my pants, a light sweater and the rubber rain jacket. I was warm as toast, and we live in Florida and used to scorching temps, not cold.

And by the way, if you’ve never seen Prins Christian Sund in Greenland, it’s a sight to see!

which is why we’re so excited to cruise the Norwegian Fjords next August.

Thank you so much for this!  We are on a Norway Arctic Circle cruise and this helps so much!  It's our second time taking a Norway cruise but the first time going into the Arctic Circle.  I remember what I used for the most part on our lasts cruise there, but this time it's in a different month so I was wondering how to prepare.  Thanks!  And yes, Greenland is on my list...so thanks for the heads up on Prins Christian Sund.

As mentioned earlier, we will be getting an exceptionally early start in the morning!  I am looking forward to trying Alaska Airlines as they are apparently known for the fantastic in-flight meals.  Ordering opened 2 weeks prior to departure and included a pretty nice menu.

Our plane is a Boeing 737-900.  Unlike Delta, our go-to airline, Alaska is a BYOD airline which meant I had to round up an extra tablet for DH...fortunately, our millennials had one to spare.  I made the flight reservations through Flights by Celebrity and took advantage of not having to pay until final payment was due.  The fare for first class was cheaper than Delta, by a lot...but was the same price as what was listed in FBC...so no savings on fare...just a later payment date.  Once booked, Alaska Air allowed me to log into their site and immediately pick our seats.  I picked the first row, left side..as per usual.  Finally, another nice perk with Alaska Air is they have a lounge in Seattle and first class ticket holders traveling over 2000 miles on a domestic flight, gain complementary access.  As it happens, ATL is 2120 miles from Seattle!  This will be nice because we have a late flight back home.

We are staying at The Arctic Club Hotel.  A historic, boutique hotel not far from all the tourist attractions like the Space Needle and the fish market.  We were able to reserve using Capital One points and have secured a King room for the cost of the resort fee.  Not bad!  As we arrive in Seattle at 9:30 in the morning, I am hopeful they will have a place for us to store our luggage while we explore the city.

One of my points of interest that I am hoping to see is Whidbey Island...there are several ways to get there, including car rental, but I'm not sure how feasible the trip will be.  Although I am a southern gal, I was born on Whidbey Island (Oak Harbor) where my dad was stationed all those years ago.  It may be that I will just have to wave as we pass the island on Friday afternoon.  I am open to suggestions on places to visit!

The Arctic Club hotel! We’ve stayed there. Lovely, lovely boutique hotel!

We went down to the hotel’s Ocean Terrace buffet for breakfast.  A very wide selection of food was available, including typical Japanese breakfast items as well as American and European fare (thankfully no beans though that I saw). It was good but I am not sure it was worth the price.

This morning was cold, 65 F, and raining but it is starting to warm up a couple of degrees and it is cloudy and over cast.

This is where Millennium will be docking Thursday morning.

Yokohama Bay bridge.  We crossed over it last evening on the way from the airport.  Millennium will be sailing under her when we pull out Thursday.

Our plan for this morning is to walk to Minatomirai station and take the train to Yokohama station.  It’s a six minute ride and cost 200 Yen per person.   Have Suica app, will travel!

We are planning our trip for 2025 and following this thread closely. The Suica app…I’m trying to download it. Can you take a screenshot of the app icon so I know that I’m downloading the right one? Thanks

Ok!  We are onboard.  We got to our room relatively early to drop off our bags (around 10:45-11) and ran into our butler while we were getting there.  He was just placing keys.  We saw an upside down lounger on our balcony with the chairs and mini table (they were cleaning it). I requested that the lounger be left  for us to use during our cruise.  He said “sure” and “thanks for telling me”. We only have one but that’s better than none!  In other news, some of our pre requested things were here and others not. We got lots of hangers (as requested) but no body pillow.  Priority embarkation was a joke.  No one paid attention to the fact that we are in the retreat.  We got on quickly regardless so, no biggie I spose.

    Yay! Enjoy your cruise!

Oh, and one last perceived act of lounger "irresponsibility": Perhaps there was a report of guests engaging in amorous activity on their lounger? Of course, that could happen, but I doubt that it would be in sufficient numbers to entail an epidemic of lounger abuse!

Like that doesn’t happen with just a bit of creative thinking on balconies with just chairs.

Maybe the chairs are the next to go given Celebrity’s new found paranoia.

  9. We are docking out of town near the Botanical Garden...Celebrity in July 2024.  Excursions to the cable car and gothic cathredral are sky high.  We'd like to do this on our own as we'd also like to wander the town and also stop at Ohallen pub.  I have no idea if Celebrity will be offering a shuttle into town.  If we choose to take a cab, how available are they?  Once they drop us off at the cable car or wherever...how to we find one to take us back?  We ran into this very issue in Iceland where we could not find a cab once we were done sightseeing in Reykjavik to get us back to the ship.  Can someone walk me through this?  We are open to taking the bus as well, but would probably opt for a cab as our preference.

I’m thinking that fewer emails to HQ could be better.

If HQ thinks they have changed the policy but the ships on request will put them on balconies that had them previously it could be a win-win.

The reality is that the vast majority of cabins have not had loungers so the change impacts a small percent of the passengers.  I say let HQ think loungers are gone and let them focus on things like the wines available that are important to a large part of the passengers.

And that small percentage of passengers paid dearly for that suite experience which includes a larger balcony with loungers.  Just because it doesn't affect the majority, doesn't mean it's ok and the collective we should move on.  Its just as important to these passengers as wines are to others.

False alarm? I checked the app today and the price is back to $30/$26.99.

I have to wonder if you would have looked at this on another browser or in incognito mode, would the prices been different. I sometimes wonder if celebrity is tracking us, how often we check pricing, and then adjusting prices on demand.

From the posts from those currently on board it seems that the Magic Carpet Suites continue to have the loungers, tables and chairs.

So that’s why they call them “Magic”? 🙄

So is this the new marketing strategy to push this type of cabin into one of the most expensive ones due to having a lounger? Maybe.

Yet others have reported no loungers at all on the Magic Carpet suites.

    Aft sky suite corner

Those balconies are huge.  What exactly are they thinking when they degrade the whole appeal of that type of balcony?  The whole draw was the ample space and the multiple seating options.  Honestly, why bother booking it if it can't be used appropriately?

Well, I just had a thought. Maybe Celebrity can charge for the privilege of loungers. A $25 delivery fee per lounger and a daily rental fee of $10 per lounger. That may be the plan.  Maximize the revenue and screw the customer and the devoted crew.

Believe me, I've thought that already. And I've thought that poeple may get more resourceful and might buy a cheap one themselves and bring it onboard like luggage and leave them behind after the cruise...or they may borrow them from the pool deck themselves.

I've had pretty good luck with responses from the EO.  I have to say, this is not the response I was expecting given some of the personal accounts in this thread...I guess we will just have to request them once on board and see what happens.

When is your cruise? Soon? Your experience will help the rest of us determine what to do (if anything can be done).
