You will get thru this with your great attitude and support from the cc family.  ❤️

Yes, I will.  This thread gives me something to do.  Ed said the shopping list was for personal items such as lotion, toothpaste, hair gel (he won’t have a clue here, lol)

He has been exposed, and in close quarters with an infested person - but has not (yet) have a detectable infestation of the COVID bug.

So Yea - they are going to quarantine him for a number of days to see what develops (if anything).

My husband is not quarantined. He never had any restrictions. They never retested him and he was free to move around the ship from the time we said goodbye.  He has pretty much stayed to himself because HE thought it best.  He called the med center the next day to ask about a test and they said not necessary.  He did use one we brought for peace of mind.  (Negative).

Just a curiosity question.  I recall several other cruisers talking about their quarantine and got to thinking.  You don't have a room card key.  I know the ships require a room card to keep the lights on.  How have they handled that?  Did they just slide a cardboard cutout into the slot?  Stupid question, I know, but just curious.

They sent me down the hallway by myself and told me to go in the room and shut the door.  That’s when I realized there was no key card.  I yelled back down the hall and they came running down with a blank card to put in the slot.  We always travel with an old room card to keep in the slot but my husband had kept that.

You sound like us in that we do almost everything together too  ... survival of the fittest! 🤣 Perfect!!

I guess I don’t understand why he had to move out to begin with though.  If they’re worried about your germs, wouldn’t he have carried them to the next stateroom anyway?  Makes no sense.

When you get sprung, do you get to join hm in the new stateroom or will they move you both yet again?

    Thx!

I think they wanted the room sterilized for the room steward’s sake.  I will join him in the new room when I can.

Life is not fair.  But you are learning to cope with this disaster commendably.

Surely your husband could take things to the front desk to be delivered to you?

    Keep your chin up.

    Barbara

I’m sure he could get me whatever I want.  Not sure about food but if there’s something else I need I’m sure front desk would deliver it.

My husband is going to Walmart tomorrow with shopping lists from the crew.  Unless they’ve joined the ship recently, they haven’t been off in 4 months and haven’t been able to buy supplies.   No crew is allowed to leave.  They are trying to be upbeat and are pros at their job.  They live 2 to a room, if the other one is sleeping they aren’t allowed to make noise.  They can’t gather in more than 3 people so no parties or anything special for them. We took a shopping bag of chips to one of the bar staff in the first leg of the cruise and he was so thrilled.  They really appreciate anything you can do for them. They would never ask of course.    I may be in quarantine but at least I don’t have to work!

  6. Thank you for your good wishes, Mary.  You certainly know how careful Ed and I are on a cruise!  Guess we thot we could keep safe.  I would have been climbing Diamond Head tomorrow.

I have the regular internet package that’s included with Have It All.  That’s really all I need.  They will provide the same for those that don’t have it (no charge)

So sad you are in Quarantine. yet happy you are not seriously ill.  Thank you for sharing your experiences as most likely will cancel our upcoming cruise to Bermuda.  I wonder what would happen if you were 1/2 through the quarantine and it was time to disembark?     I started playing a fun game called Wordle..   it is free and there is one word puzzle a day.   Google Wordle..  Wish you the best..  following along..  keep asking for nice things!!   The nicer soap and lotions from Elemis!!   Hang in there..

it’s hard to say what would happen.  I think they would get you a quarantine hotel if you wanted but if quarantine is only 5 days off a ship I guess no one could hold you hostage.  You’d have to do what you thought was right based on your symptoms.

Chilly for the first 3 days, better yesterday and beautiful today.  They are calling for sun and low 80’s tomorrow. Balcony day except for football.

Great idea!  We'll plan to do the same.  And guess the Elemis shampoo or body wash works for dish detergent too. 😉

It does although I actually travel with ivory dish soap to wash underwear so I have some.  Not normally something someone travels with, lol.

My DH just asked if your DH was allowed to go back to your original stateroom after they fumigated it (or whatever they do for "lepers", I think you called it 🤭)?

Also, we wonder if one of us tested positive but the other chose to quarantine anyway (or if both of us tested positive), could we get adjoining staterooms rather than having to share one?  We're going to be on a 35 day cruise in a suite and think we'd likely kill each other in such close quarters for 10 straight days.  Joking.  Not.

No my DH is in his new room for the rest of the cruise.  It was only 2 doors down from our original cabin.  The good thing was they gave him the keys and he could carry stuff down instead of having to pack everything.  The next person might not be so lucky tho.  I don’t believe they would give you adjoining staterooms but who knows.  They might have to keep rooms open for the next victims.   All the quarantine rooms are in hallways together.  They are Verandahs but not suites. Doubtful you would remain in a suite. We talk a lot on the phone and he’s bored too but it would have been difficult to be in close quarters for that long even tho we usually do everything together.  We would not be happy with each other by the end of 10 days.  It would be survival of the fittest.

By the way OP,  I'm from "up north" also and it's frigid, cold and monochromatic shades of black and white and has been for days on end except the lake....it's still blueish except close to shore where there it also is monochromatic.

    I’m glad I’m missing that!

  12. Day 1:

I met my neighbors on one side of me.  They were on their balcony talking to friends on the walking deck. They were telling their friends that they are demanding to be let out of their room because this is all a conspiracy.   Then they started talking to me and I asked them if they both tested positive.  They said yes.  I asked if they both had both the rapid antigen and rapid pcr tests.  They said they tested positive on both. But then they said they had no symptoms and it wasn’t real as they were coughing constantly.  I found this humorous.  I’m so glad we’re not really sick!

Things I brought from home that I’m glad I have:

soft Kleenex. I always bring a bunch with me as I hate cheap Kleenex.
This has been a godsend.  Expect a runny nose

a little bag of chocolates.  Nothing like a bite of chocolate to make me

         feel better!

each of us carry our own tube of toothpaste.
binoculars…hoping for some whales and birds

    one dollar bills for tips

magnetic wall clips for fastening my menus near the phone

    pens, paper

ipad, phone, kindle. Can’t imagine isolation without them.
can and bottle koozies.  Beer and soda are barely cold as it is

    ibuprophen or Tylenol

    What I wish I had:

    an insulated coffee cup

    More one dollar bills.

    Patience😁

Also, have a talk about what you would do if one tested positive.  You have to make a decision in a split second whether you want to separate or stay together.   Make sure there aren’t things you are sharing that you would both need. (Like toothpaste)

This is what the hallway looked like for 19 hours after I checked in.  More rooms occupied since then. I found it funny in a sad way.  They just can’t keep up but bless the hearts of the guys who are carrying food trays down a hallway that they don’t want to go down.  A tip once in awhile will be appreciated. I grabbed a few dollar bills when I left our first room.  I think my husband will have to find a way to get me more money.

  13. For those wondering where I may have gotten infected, it has to be on this sailing.  We flew to CA 3 weeks ago to babysit grandkids and only left their house to walk outside.  Our son dropped us off at the port.  Their whole family hardly left the house while we were there. They tested people getting on but obviously the test doesn’t catch everyone.  Several people tested positive during the two days of testing Tuesday and Wednesday. We were rarely near anyone else but there are people eating and drinking everywhere.

If I had to make a decision whether to cruise again the answer would be a firm NO.  Not for a very long time.  I know our habits and safety standards and have to say that if I got it then it’s possible for anyone.

HAL is doing all they can for us.  I can’t fault them.  There’s nothing I’ve asked for that I haven’t gotten.

As for calling people from Hawaii, probably not.  Only if I could call from inside my room.  I’m hoping to enjoy my verandah and having someone yap on their phone next to me all day would be as bad as a smoker.  Hardly anyone knew we were coming on this cruise because my friends would all think I was crazy.  I’m not ready to tell them I am!

Football weekend!  Good luck to all teams not named Green Bay or the Bucs!

I’m very appreciative of your posts. I was curious and concerned on how having a positive test was handled. I’m glad you are not really very sick but I’m sure that makes it frustrating too. I hope you stay relatively “well”. How long were you on the ship before testing was done? Why were you tested? How long is your cruise for?  I hope you get to enjoy some of it. Thoughts and prayers are with you.

This Hawaii cruise is 17 days.  It left on Sunday.  Everyone was tested on the dock before boarding and again on either Tuesday or Wednesday.  Several cases were discovered those two days.  I will either have 3 or 3 and a half days (sea days and a late arrival to Ensenada) depending on when I am released.

Well, crap. Is your cruise a Circle Hawaii? When we did that one, it was 5 days over, 5 days in Hawaii and 5 days back. By those calculations, you will miss the islands. I don't blame you for walking, even though it's a short course. There seem to be a lot of us following you. Hope that helps. Keep smiling!

It does help to have cruise critic friends!  Yes, our trip is to Hawaii and am missing all of the islands.  Luckily not my first trip but still disappointing. I’ve never been a fan of sea days but I know some people are.

Am I off base when I say that the way the days are numbered is irrelevant?  What matters is that you stay isolated for ten full days to fulfill the CDC requirement and protect others as much as possible from getting ill.

The numbered days are relevant mentally when you are the one going thru it.  If they don’t get me out mid morning I will lose 11 DAYS of my cruise.  I really don’t care about the nights.  Nothing happens quickly here and they have a lot of people to check out and release.  I could easily lose my 11th sailing day if they take the whole day to release us.  I understand the counting process but it doesn’t make it easier.

So sorry this happened to you. Hope that your symptoms remain mild to none and that your days alone pass quickly.

If it makes you feel any better, starting with day zero as the date of your positive test, the next day is day one  and at that time you have been in isolation for one 24 hour period.  Keep counting and on day ten you will have isolated for ten 24 hour periods, or ten and not eleven days.

    Take care and feel well.

I understand what you are saying.  I guess it’s hard for me to think that they need to count the time I would be sleeping in my room when I wouldn’t be out anyways. Checkout time better come early.

  18. This is day 3 for me (HAL says day 2) so I’m going to back up and post my thoughts by days.

    Day ZERO:

I spent almost the entire day in isolation but HAL counts this as day zero.  Which means 11 days quarantine, not 10.  I was an elementary teacher for 34 years, 26 of them in kindergarten. If you have ever been around kindergartners you know the first day is not easy.  I never went home at the end of the first day and said “Well day zero was fun!  Let’s do day 1 tomorrow”….said no teacher EVER!  A little depressing to know they are tacking on another day.

Each day they call you in the evening to ask for your breakfast and lunch choice for the next day.  It is the room service menu for breakfast although I did get an omelet on request. The lunch menu is the same as the dining room.  For 11 days.  Dinner is the same as the dining room and they call in the afternoon to take your order.  They drop everything off at the little table in the hall (actually it’s your verandah table), pound on your door and run away.  I’ll post pictures of the menus.  Sorry, I scribbled on them before I realized these were the only ones I would ever get.

All meals are served in paper cardboard boxes.  Hint: don’t order anything with cheese…like Mac and cheese or an omelet unless you have a preference for cold congealed cheese.  They come with flat wooden silverware.  Personally, I can’t stand the feeling of wooden things on my tongue which is why I quit playing the saxophone in high school band!  I called front desk and asked for real silverware.  Was told they couldn’t but then there was a knock on my door and two soup spoons showed up.  Another call to front desk and the next day a set of real silverware showed up.  I keep them in my room because otherwise I would never see them again.

I quickly figured out that there are 11 steps from my verandah door to the hallway door.  I’m determined to walk 3 miles a day.  Luckily I have my Apple Watch to keep track.  I’m starting to feel dizzy with all the quick turns, lol.

I have found that calls to the front desk get results.  Might take awhile but they are trying. I got two bathrobes along with my silverware.

I have a kindle so lots of books.  And I can always watch one of HAL’s 20 year old movies.  They came out so long ago I wouldn’t remember them anyways.

Day 1 report later.  I’m feeling ok, just bored.  Thanks to everyone for the good wishes.

so what happens if you test positive and are staying in a Neptune suite? do they still move you? If just one of the couple tests positive, do both of you get quarantined? thanks...

We were given a choice to have my husband move with me or stay on deck 8.  We decided to separate so that he didn’t catch it from me. He had to move to a new room 2 doors down so they could sanitize our first room.   We weren’t in a Neptune but all the quarantine cabins are not in a hallway with others. You would not be able to stay in a Neptune if you test positive.

Thanks.    Believe me, there is nothing shy about me imparting my wishes😁
