  1. Please does anyone know if any bar on the Carnival Legend stocks the liqueur Crème de Menthe?

I like it with lemonade, prefer the green version as it "reminds me" it's a Grown Up drink so SLOWLY SIP IT! Only made the mistake ONCE and did I have a headache! Serve me right, I was warned by the bartender who knew I had a sight problem and could easily confuse it for a glass of lemonade, which I promptly DID! Learnt a sharp lesson then.

I'm hoping to sail on the Legend out of Melbourne, Australia in 2019, just trying to plan ahead and work out if Bottomless Bubbles or Cheers is the best package for me. Not a big alcohol drinker. If it's available, might be best to budget for 2-3 drinks per day-lunch, dinner and a nightcap.

I've found out lots of information here on Cruise Critic, the reviews and articles are a great help.

  2. Don’t feel weird, I happened to be a younger person and I do use a walker occasionally as I’ve had back surgery and I have severe drop foot now. Last time we went to the airport to catch our cruise, I pushed my walk her through the airport took it to the gate got a gate check ticket, and they put it underneath for me when we got on the plane and gave it back to me when we got off. Very easy

I had the same experience when I had to fly interstate here in Australia, alerted the airline before flying and everything went smoothly. Coming back I needed transport to the plane as I was loaded first on the lifter. A nice staff member collected me from the waiting area, took me to a car and drove me out to the plane. I asked if I should stay in the middle of the striped walkway for safety, and was told, "Yes please Miss."

  3. I think this is a good idea. You can also each carry-on up to 12-12oz cans or cartons of soft drinks (soda, juice packs, etc) if you would prefer this over the soda package. The plus is having exactly what you want and not getting a potentially flat, warm can of soda from the bar. The negative is having to carry it with you and taking with from the room.

A previous poster suggested to not consider Cheers cost per person, but rather as a per cabin cost (which will vary based on the # of +21 passengers) in seeing if it is worth the purchase. This is a good alternative way of viewing the cost.

It amazes me how strongly many of us seem to view the Cheers package and will try to sway others to our side:rolleyes::') . For my husband and I, we like to drink but cannot see how the package makes sense. Even on our heaviest drinking day we never had a combined alcohol total of over $100. I also don't want to drink all my calories and spend all day in the restroom, so the specialty drinks/coffee argument doesn't sway me. We are good with viewing our account throughout the day and adjusting our habits if necessary, but I understand that others don't want a bill and are willing to pay a premium through the Cheers package to not have to think about their drink costs - even if they don't 'break even'. We get FTTF since it is a value to us, but many others consider that a waste of money.

Each passenger should do what is right for them (without violating the agreed to contract) and let others do the same. I do wish Carnival offered an unlimited non-alcoholic package like Princess, but I suspect to have the right price point most wouldn't purchase it.:(

Princess had changed to a 15 alcoholic drink per day limit. TMK canned sodas are also not available on the package-I might be wrong, relying on memory of reading Princess threads.

  4. We are 3 cruises from finally gaining Elite status with Princess.

I see that if you book a full suite you get double credit. What is the lowest category that constitutes a Full Suite?

I sailed Solo in a Window Suite on the Golden Princess 11/11/2016 and found I had skipped the Gold Level and am a Ruby for my next sailing. Again in a Window Suite, with the 3 Cruise Credits I will disembark at Melbourne as a Platinum.

Impatiently waiting for the release of the next brochure, have seen an online version and there are limited cruises I could take, not sure about using a FCC, and the prices "seem" to have doubled. Due to poor eyesight-until I can actually check a physical brochure for myself, any plans for future cruises on Princess are up in the air.

    HTH.

  5. I really enjoy the VIFP perks and this would steer me to another cruise line. Princess offers priority access and other perks for suites.

    Some of those perks are:

    • free laundry-put the bag out before 8am (I think) for Same Day service.
    • A Mini Bar with 8 small bottles of assorted alcohol (think brandy, gin, vodka and whisky, do not remember brands sorry).
    • Personalised stationery
    • A Princess pen
    • 2 card Wallets
    • Chance to select free Canapes and you have a Chef's Selection on the 1st Night-I found it was an assortment.
    • The Platinum/Elite/Suite Function-was held in Skywalkers Bar with drinks and nibbles

HTH. It's nearly 18 months since I sailed Princess and there have been changes to the PES function.

  6. Good news it’s coke & coke brands on board. As for the seafood bar the cheapest thing was $5-$7 for a New England Chowder served in a bread bowl.

They have a seafood platter for $13 as well. Most of the stuff is that is cooked is under 20$. Average price was about $10-$13 dollars. Obviously buying fresh prawns oysters or lobster will be at market value.

Attached is the clam chowder and the seafood platter to enjoy [emoji6]

THANK YOU! I had guesstimated $15-$20 so delighted I am fairly accurate.1 moneybox earmarked to take small change ready for the cruise, probably 2019 or 2020. I am committed to another cruise on the Golden Princess, but until I can actually get a printed brochure to check the prices for myself re future Princess cruising, I'm a bit uncertain.

Sailing out of Melbourne would substantially reduce airfares for me-Sydney requires a change of plane, and careful scheduling to minimise overnight accommodation being needed. Didn't work this year, the Sunday flight from my hometown was too late getting into Melbourne to transfer to a Sydney flight, and I WON'T fly in the day of the cruise, I'm too mobility challenged to cope safely.

  7. Is it Coke or Pepsi aboard Carnival please?

A friend suggested Carnival when I was complaining about the apparent price of a Princess Cruise almost doubling for me0and I have only seen the pricing online and I do have trouble reading the screen so might be wrong. Pepsi has startled me with a sudden LOUD belch happening without warning, so I learnt not to drink Pepsi as it happens EVERY time I try it!

Someone advised of the 13 can limit for bringing your own cans, I plan to bring some for the stateroom.

Hoping to sail on the Legend out of Melbourne.

Does anyone know the price range for the Seafood Bar please? I know it's pay to eat venue, but I DO like a nice plate of fish and chips!

  8. Yep, I think this is what's going to happen. Sister said she was OK with us going. She has a lot of support at home with husband and 2 good behaviored kids (14 and 10). And people from their church have been bringing over lots of meals. Hopefully she will get out of the hospital tomorrow and then start recovery. It's been a real whirlwind week...

Last Tuesday she went with her family to an amusement park and did some rides. Was feeling bloated (but had been eating greasy, salty foods). By 10 pm she was in terrible pain (she said worse than childbirth, and constant) and could see something protruding and hard to touch in her stomach area. Got to emergency room and waited and waited. Discovered it was a tumor and it was bleeding (this caused the pain). Thursday surgery... now more waiting. So happy she has a great support system at home.

Just a thought. Would your sister have access to the internet while you're away? If she does, could you send a chatty email describing your travels to her?

  9. I'd like more staterooms equipped for Handicapped Passengers, especially Window Suites. Effectively these are the equivalent size of 2, or 2.5 Oceanview Staterooms as 1 Window Suite or Handicapped Accessible Window Suite. Other than the Caribbean, Golden and Grand Princesses, the other Handicapped Accessible Suites I know about are Penthouse Suites. Which, when travelling solo, is rather expensive! I have not yet travelled on the Sea or Sun Princesses. The new Australian brochure-saw an online preview- seems to indicate that might be a necessity for me in the future.

I personally did enjoy the Suite Perks when travelling in the Window Suite. Sabatini's breakfast was wonderful with attentive and unobtrusive service-there promptly when needed for a fresh knife when I clumsily dropped mine, or the offer of more pastries when the server noticed I had finished my supply. Laundry was most helpful, as was the card wallet I used to hold the ship map I was given on boarding, and my cruise card. Ever so easy to obtain a soft drink-I'd go to the bar, and flip open the card wallet so the bar tender could see I had the Soda and More Package. Also useful for Muster Drill, I presented my card as I approached my station, the crewmember seems startled that a Blue Card holder knew what to do-thanks to Cruise Critic.

Everyone will have their own opinion on any changes.

  10.

With just a quick look online, I can already see the costs for me, have possibly DOUBLED (at least) so I will need to stick to the 2 night cruises, and possibly try the Sea and Sun Princesses. This means going to an Oceanview or Balcony cabin, as neither have the Window Suites like the Golden, It would also mean having to fly to or from Brisbane, meaning I will need to learn how to get around in a new environment for me.

Oh well, at least I still have SOME chance to cruise

  11. That sounds like a good plan. Shame you could not get direct flights but seeing you have allowed plenty of time should be a relaxing trip. Nice to have a few days up your sleeve.:)

I have to fly in from South Australia and have multiple disabilities that prove a little challenging in an unfamiliar place. I did compare the Rex airfares to Adelaide from my hometown versus Melbourne and Melbourne was cheaper. I must use taxis so need to allow $$ for home to local airport, Sydney airport to apartments, apartments to Circular Quay, possibly Port Melbourne to hotel (a friend may be able to meet me and we go to a group lunch but I'm planning on needing a taxi), hotel to Tullamarine, then local airport to home. Even with taxi vouchers, I'm looking at a minimum budgeted amount of $200 (and yes I will make sure I have more with me in case of delays-promise!)

  12. Looking for advice from anyone who has experieneced the same situation. We have booked Regal Princess Scandinavian and St. Petersburg cruise to celebrate my daughter's graduation. She will be 18 at time of sailing. We adopted her at 14 months old and she has held US Citizenship and US passport for 17 years.

Princess states that all passengers exiting the ship for a Princess excursion will not need a visa, but will be required to provide a copy of their passports to Russian immigration when going ashore. (We will not be doing anything on our own which requires our own visa)

I'm nervous about this because it shows her place of birth as Russia. Has anyone dealt with this before when entering St.Petersburg, and were there any questions asked or raised concerns?

    Thank you.

Do you have a copy of the adoption paperwork? I would take that with you. HTH.

  13. Like Yabbah on ye olde SCG Hill. to wit...'Ave a go yer mug .!!; and other unprintable verses.lol.

Or the barracking from the "in" famous-and departed-Bay 13 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, known to Australians as the MCG! That could be a real er-surprise with what some microphones picked up!

Especially when Australia played England, things could get lively.

  14. I've booked Melbourne-Sydney in October 2018 with Virgin Australia. IIRC $107 for a noon flight out of Tullamarine on 20/10/2018, I can't get a suitable Sunday flight from my home town, so have to fly into Sydney 2 days before the cruise.

Have organised accommodation at the Merriton Mascot Central Apartments for 2 nights, and overnight accommodation in Melbourne for the Thursday night. I hope to meet up with friends again the day I disembark from the Golden Princess-it was wonderful to see them in November 2016.

I walked into my Travel Agency and handed the Agent the booking details-I'd done most of the searching for her, she just needed to contact Rex re a Disabled Passenger needing some assistance in transferring from Rex arrival to Virgin check in. Once in the correct terminal I can manage, it's finding my way in an unfamiliar place that's a bit of a challenge.

Yes I have allowed over 3 hours from landing in Melbourne to boarding the Virgin flight and will get a taxi to the apartment. I've learnt from my earlier mistakes and things are going more smoothly this time.

  15.

That shriek of delight you've just heard was me-I just found my preferred alcoholic drink-Crème de Menthe!

Please, does anyone know which bar is most likely to have Crème de Menthe available? I'll be on the Golden Princess this coming October. and if it's only available at 1 bar, then that shall be my "local" while aboard. I've tried other drinks but prefer Crème de Menthe-green if possible but white I MUST just remember it's a Grown Up drink, so no greedy gulping or I'll give myself a headache!

As far as I know, the AUDS cost for Cocktails is $16. I will budget $20 per drink so I have a little reserve. I cannot get the Premier Drink Package on a 3 night cruise in Australia. Having my preferred alcoholic drink available is an unexpected surprise-hope it is stocked on the Golden Princess. I was working from an earlier Beverage Package posting which didn't have it, so hopefully it's new.

  16. They're great.

Looks to me as if the ship Is just past the Sydney Opera House on her port bow, and preparing to berth at the Overseas Passenger Terminal.

Even with my limited vision, I could see the outlines clearly.

Thank you for taking the post and share your photos.

  17. I thought when using tenders it is really deck 3. When boarding tenders you are led down steps from deck 4 to 3. When returning to the ship you walk up a set of stairs to deck 4 where you then can get an elevator.

THANK YOU Caribill, this is something I did not know. As I use a Rollator for mobility, I was already concerned about safely using a tender. If there are steps to negotiate, that makes it unsafe for me. So check tender ports, realise conditions may change, and plan a peaceful day aboard. Sounds nice!:D

  18. I've cruised solo' date=' but not on Princess. Other than the financial pain of the single supplement, it was great. I had no problem booking the lowest cost inside cabin.

Obviously, I can't address whether the tactic of blocking less costly cabins is standard on some lines, but it isn't on all. And if it is a last minute booking, they will often reduce the single supplement--a one person cabin is better than an empty cabin.[/quote']

I cruised solo in the Handicapped Accessible Window Suite-paid double fare, only 1 set of taxes. Had a lovely time, and counting down the days until 10/22/2018 when I shall again board the Golden Princess at Circular Quay bound for Station Pier in Melbourne. 3 glorious days!

  19. As a Window Suite Occupant on the Golden Princess in October this year, I shall have the chance to try Club Class Dining for myself. I will report back.-I tried the Buffet which was a challenge for me with a Rollator even though a staff member quickly offered assistance in getting my meal, for which I was very grateful It's just my problems managing in relatively confined spaces that caused the difficulty, the food was delicious. I also tried the Main Dining Room which was easier to access for me, and also delicious food. I reacted to the Cocktail Sauce with a coughing fit, reached for and drained my water glass, and a waiter appeared beside my table like magic with a full pitcher of water and the polite enquiry, "Ma'am would you like a refill?" I did, gratefully thanked him, and made a point on telling the Head Waiter about his staff member's quick response with more water when I needed it. I had Anytime Dining which suited me, so I shall find out about Club Class Dining for myself.

Of course I will report back on Cruise Critic.

  20. Another interesting thing I found on your last cruise, a lot of first time with princess people, some people still had on idea where anything was after 10 days. But some the suite people don't seam to read the info in cabin particularly on breakfast and club class, as one couple only realized breakfast at Sabatini's on the second last day, Also quite a few went to MDR anytime dinning as they didn't realise about club class dinners lunch etc.

I wonder what the number of people go in totally cold ( first cruise or first time with princess ) into a suite and don't realise the perks. Particularly given the long time between booking and boarding and the cost.

Or are we different always have done research before going on holidays, to find out what to do or see and where to stay ( it is in walking distance of a restaurant )

    Cheers Don

I did substantial research on Cruise Critic before I sailed on the Golden Princess in November 2016. Several friends were aboard in different cabins and I quickly became the "Go To" Person who knew things. Ironically we were ALL Blue Card holders, I bothered to do my research while they hadn't!

I thoroughly enjoyed Sabatini's breakfast on the Saturday and Sunday, and the use of the Vista Lounge as my Disembarkation point-IIRC t was the Suite Lounge for Disembarkation.

In 34 weeks I'll be aboard again, sailing down the East coast of Australia bound for Melbourne.

Yes I am excited to be cruising again!

  21. We just got off the Golden Princess Melbourne to New Zealand and back. There is no more happy hour at all. :(

I never got it on my 3 night 2016 sailing, so wasn't expecting it in October. It would be nice to try it out, but hopefully I will still have the option of 6 cans of Soda for the price of 5. IIRC, it's available through Room Service when I get into the Window Suite. I'm guesstimating AUD$15 per 6 cans, and saving money on that budget.
