    Hi All,

Had a question.  First and foremost I understand unforeseen circumstances regarding the fire.  I'm sitting in Orlando and Carnival simply emailed me that my cruise was cancelled. No offer to find me another cruise or suggest cruises that may have unbooked staterooms. Just boom, it's cancelled.  They did offer reimbursement back to my original payment method, which is unfortunately Carnival gift cards as well as credit for a future cruise.

Here is where I am.  I'm in Orlando, off work and my son wants to enjoy a vacation. Now that bill is on me as my cruise is cancelled.  Would it be unreasonable to ask Carnival to pay my lodging expenses for what would have been the length of the cruise?  Has anyone had success doing this?

Your not serious I hope....that's what insurance is for....read the contract....

  2. My wife and I are up in age (60's) and we were thinking of a beach excursion.

We read about this island being one of the to rated unsafe islands.

How safe do you feel going on an excursion?

It would take us to the end of the island or across to the west side, just seems far from the ship, but a Carnival Beach Excursion is all we would consider.

The threshold is $600 for a 1099-MISC for prizes and awards vs. $1,200 for a W-2G for slot machine winnings.  I had to fill out paperwork for a 1099-MISC after winning $700 in the Snowball drawing on a Premier cruise earlier this year.

In the middle of the gulf right now on Vista. Horrible storms our entire first sea day - not seeing any dust because of all the rain! Hoping it clears out so I can see some of those sunsets y’all are talking about

Look at the radar, there is a low pressure circling around....tropic in nature but not named.

It’s not a matter of wanting it to go away or not caring. It’s an issue of what does a cruise line, or any place where people congregate, do about this? There’s a reason why contract tracing isn’t done anymore. This isn’t just a cruise line issue.

I assure you I wore the mask on the trip.  The majority did not as it was announced that week that stateside mask we now recommended.  Had this been like the other 3 cruises we were on over the past 9 months, I felt we wouldn't get covid as most 90+ wore mask and respected others.

Just saying again.  My wife did not get Covid and we isolated.  It's wide open now.

On a ship, you are more confined in crowded lines, elevators, etc - much more than other palaces other than ships.

    Go fish.

Does anyone know if there is someone at Carnival we are to notify if we test positive after the cruise?

    Thanks

I had the same occur, no one seemed to care, yet I felt I had a social responsibility.  I also feel the ship does too, but they want it to go way just like folks posting here.

In the end, I summitted a form online I found on there site to report the issue (wasn't Covid specific).

They followed up after a week or so and asked who I was near and such, so they would attempt to notify or at least seemed to want to.

    Just saying.

Thank you for caring about others health.

I know I saw threads about anytime dining on the Mardi Gras before. But I cannot find the thread about what restaurants are offered along with anytime dining on Mardi Gras. Can anyone tell what those other restaurants are? Do we need to make reservations for them before cruising or once we are on the ship? Thanks again!

The other person told you the restaurants that are included and how/when/where to get in line vs standing or hub.

We sailed MG in FEb and have always been in the MDR early seating folks.

We were not allowed to book other restaurants until 7:30 04 7:45 because we had early seating.

We sailed with friends who had anytime.  They were able to book a table for 4 (included us) for the Italian restaurant.

The MDR seemed very empty comparably speaking to past cruises.  WIth the MG all the options are free for the most part.  We did and willa gain book the Teppanyaki grill - excellent.

We sail May 28th and this time we selected anytime dinging as we liked the other restaurant, plus you can order lobster on elegant night at a couple of those as well.  It was nice to change it up a bit.

We did not use the steak house as the selection of others was vast.  While it is nice to go to your table, having your ice tea or drink ready, knowing you want your slaad this way, and multiple entries from the same waiter, the change males for a great time and dining experience.

Again book the teppanyaki now or you'll be shot out - sold out on the MG!  It is fun at sea!

Typos - ignore them as i didn't proof read.

This is ONE old study, done before any of the newer variants, but if you read your study you will see that your odds of being infected increase with every touch.

. . . .generally less than 1 in 10,000, which means that each contact with a contaminated surface has less than a 1 in 10,000 chance of causing an infection. . .

So according to this old study, done on the much less transmissible variant, if you touch a surface ONE TIME you have a less than 1 in 10,000 chance, but every time you touch that item or any item you chances increase.

It's the sneezing and coughing for some of the careless people in elevators, halls, rooms, etc or just around you with no thought of caring - while these are now the majority, there were enough of them witnessed first hand on the trips I've been on.

Many times I've walked out of elevators once parole like that got in, or wouldn't get on.  Just saying.

Yes, you have a chance of getting covid on the ship and it is more confined.  You must make your own space.  The cruise line does nothing once you're all loaded on board.

Over on the Celebrity board there's been lengthy discussions about Covid issues on two Celebrity ships, the Silhouette who's Transatlantic sailing and now Europe sailing is being hampered but Covid cases for both crew and guests. The Apex is also reporting cases and will be embarking on her transatlantic with Covid onboard. Then there was a news report about a Princess ship that had Covid issues. Yet the Carnival board is strangely silent on any current Covid cases on board sailings.

This thread is just to keep people informed and not meant to alarm or cause controversy. I'm currently on day 13 on the MardiGras and there's been nothing concerning Covid cases. No interruptions in services, venues, shows; everything seems normal.

Anyone care to share any factual information?

I got Covid on the Mardi Gras on Friday before departure from the ship. I wasn't sure as it was just a light sore throat, but on Saturday it worsened to head issues when we were home (drove).  While I had a light case and tested positive that Sunday, it was from the cruise.

So don't think it is not on the ships.  Yes we had vaccines and booster.  I thank the vaccines for my light case. I reported it to Carnival once I tested, but was treated as trivial in my opinion.  They finally asked questions weeks later.  Nothing came of it - no more follow up from them.

This was the week the US went maskless with recommendations.  The majority did not wear mask despite us wearing ours.  My wife either never developed symptoms or had covid.

So the other comments are right, Carnival will not report what's going on in regard to covid as long as it is under a certain percentage.  Now I question where it will go without the CDC.

But we are boosting again and will sail again using our precautions.  I BLAME NO ONE FOR COVID. JUST A FACT OF LIFE ANYMORE.  WASH UP AND BE SMART.  THERE WERE (AND WILL BE) ENOUGH NONE SMART PEOPLE ABOARD!!!

    Gotta catch flights. Get home.

I don't understand the appeal of getting on the ship early.

For those driving means getting on the road early for long drives or having to be home to get their pet from the kennel as they are only open half days.

    Some may have early flights.

Everyone amy have different reasons, but I get your point as well.

  12. Mardi Gras was near capacity on our Feb 26th cruise and we are back on May 28th and expect it full.

We'll just adjust and pick and choose what we want to do,

All in all, we are cruising for R&R.  Don't want to get caught up in it all.

    No need to worries!!!

We just got off the Mardi Gras and I don't know what happened as we could never get an answer but the fries at Guys were totally different.  Looked way different...very pale, not much seasoning and extremely disappointing. Anyone else on other ships (or the Mardi Gras) experienced this?  If there was a positive to this situation, I didn't eat any fries so there's that lol. Nonetheless, I hope this was a one off type of thing.

Ours were fine this past March.  Same ole same ole

On our recent cruise on Pride they stopped my carryon after X-ray and asked me to open it. I had my wine in it so thought they wanted to check and make sure it wasn't other alcohol. That isn't what they wanted to see. I also had 2 toiletry bags with small scissors. They confiscated both pairs of scissors. These scissors have traveled with me on 106 cruises without a problem. Is this something new? They said I could claim them when I disembarked but I have heard from others who were directed multiple places and never got their confiscated items back.

I really liked those scissors, little fold up kind. My deceased mother in law gave them to me. Can't understand what they thought I would do with them. Carnival gives me big steak knives onboard and trusts me with them.

We cruised many times with my small moustache scissors in my carry on toiletry bag that had my meds and necessities.  On our Oct cruise out of Miami, they stopped me at the check in after the bag went through the scanner.  They wanted my backpack, yes to take the scissors away.  A joke in my opinion but going forward I pack them in the suitcase.

Maybe they should have tracking devices on the steak knives that are abound the ship and other knifes.

Not the less, I thught this was very peddy, but will move on.

    • We believe you may of missed a call and or they knew they messed up and posted the message to leave -- so you didn't break the rule.

What I take exception to is your position it is okay to break rules and then want others enforced.

Seem to be a whole can of you being a Hippocratic.

Nonetheless, hope you enjoyed your cruise and others too come.

  15. Consider the sun in the morning in the afternoon and when you may use it - what time of day.   Also the way you face when docked.  On the Horizon 8 day Sothern Caribbean Cruise (twice) we took the Port and faced the shoreline.  On the Mardi we had the port, but only faced Grand Turk.

We are the Mardi Gras again and have starboard....

    It's a wash....

In the end we like the Port side for late afternoon sun, but it depends when and where you are sailing. The ship will flip the other way on the return too.

But enjoy it if you have one - otherwise save your money and go for an inside cabin

Just finished a 7 night cruise on Mardi Gras, our 15th cruise overall. We usually do the Self Disembarkation / Wall Off with all of our luggage so we can get off the ship quickly and avoid the 'luggage corral.' For the first time, we were notified that Carnival was going to follow a different protocol for guests who planned to walk off the ship with all of their luggage. Typically, we are the first group to leave the ship as soon as the gangway is ready, as early at 7:15 am in Florida.

Mardi Gras did an 'announced walk-off' calling us by Muster Station assignments, while at the same time calling off Checked Baggage zones. One hour into the process and they still had not called our Muster Station. They had called three other Muster Stations and 10 Checked Baggage Zones, but not our Muster Station. At that point, I checked in with a Facebook group and they said, "IGNORE THE PROTOCOL, JUST WALK OFF!"

So we did. Security didn't care, they just checked us out. So, if you are going to walk off with the luggage, and Carnival says they're going to do this 'announced walk off' protocol, ignore it. Walk off when they make the first announcement to leave the ship. 🙂

Wow, just tell everyone to ignore the rules....thanks for helping anything organized...not saying you didn't have a reason, but it sounds like your sending the wrong message....
