  1. Add one more vote for KYSS bags. Got our for our most recent cruise and can't imagine what we did before. The "Large" size was great for DW and I to carry towels, sunscreen, books, and water to the beach and the inside zip pocket kept phone and wallet separated and easily available. The whole bag chains to the lounge chair as a theft deterrent.

Made a great "personal item" carry-on for the airplane, too.

We also use the large KYSS bag much in the same way. We never carry anything of high value or that's irreplaceable, but nice to have the option of locking it down. We previously used a Master Lock Personal Safe but found it inconvenient to carry to the beach. We still use that sometimes for jewelry etc. when staying in hotels without room safes.

  2. A single point of failuredoes not a redundant system make....

Hopefully they've learned their lesson, but it doesn't help thepoor people who spent hours on the tarmac or had to sleep in the airport. Could take days to get all flights back to normal. I feel so sorry for all those folks who've had their travel/vacation plans disrupted. Monetary reimbursement from travel insurance is nice (if lucky enough to have it) but doesn't make up for all the inconvenience.

  3. You’d think the busiest airport in the world would have somesort of backup power system. Over 1000flights cancelled, affecting air travel throughout the country. Passengers forced outside, standing infreezing rain for hours. Otherpassengers stuck in the trams between terminals had to be rescued by firefighters. They’re hoping power will berestored by midnight – still gonna be a massive mess tomorrow. My heart goes out to all those travelers.

  4. At a minimum you will need to bring Seapass card and a photo ID. Note the Port Agent contact information from the cruise compass in case you get stranded (or carry a copy of the compass). I also carry a credit card in case of emergencies.

Everyone has their own ideas regarding passport. I personally scan everything (passport, ID's, power of attorney, cruise schedule, credit card bank contact info, etc.) and put it on a tiny encrypted USB drive which I carry with me. I also leave the same information with an emergency contact back home.

A good source of information regarding each port of call and excursion options is the Ports of Call forum:

Trip Advisor is also a great source.

  5. A good source for a variety of compasses is here:

Not sure if they have your particular cruise, but you may find something similar and it will likely give you a good idea of types of activities on board. It's a Royal Caribbean blog.

EDIT - I guess it won't let me post the link because it is a cruise line site but I'm sure you can figure it out. You can also Google 'Royal Caribbean cruise compass' and you should find the link.
