  1. Anyone else had this experience? When I went to book my dining preferences, I saw that on one night all the “special” restaurants were not available for one night in France. The Explorer is in port until 10 pm that evening. My contact at Regent says it may be due to the ship wide bbq that night. Just wondering if this is done frequently, as I have not experienced it on our 9 Regent Cruises.

  2. I started this post for suggestions on what to do if an overperfumed person sat near me. My favorite word is KINDNESS. No one should be rude, snarky, or downright mean to anyone. My second fav word is consideration...and we could all go with the golden rule. Thanks for those that offered a reasonable remedy. Let’s please close this post now.

  3. Anyone else have an issue at any RSSC dining venue...when someone sits near to you...reeking of perfume or cologne? Do you just sit there and not taste your food? Move to another table? Just leave? What if it is the server who overdosed on the smelly stuff? This may seem trivial to some, and please don’t bash me, but this happens quite often at dinner, and I truly would like some suggestions other than breathing through my sleeves. Thanks for any input!

  4. Hubby and I have had the opposite problem with some bus tour guides. The loudspeaker is so incredibly loud that we have to hold our ears..it really is painful. Most guides will try to turn the sound down, to no avail, and on more than one occasion we have simply left the bus.

The more Regent cruises we take, the less included excursions are interesting to us.

  5. For the first time, we have opted to use Regent for airline arrangements, which includes transportation from the airport to the hotel. Is this a car, van, bus? Do you wait at the airport for more people to fill the vehicle? LHR is the airport. Thanks for any info and first hand experiences.

  6. The forward ss suites do not have the 1/2 bath. In addition, the slope of the ship forward is quite difficult for tall passengers to maneuver around. I also would check the deck, to determine what is above you...especially be wary of deck 10. One of the SS suites is directly below the culinary kitchen and past passengers have complained about the constant noise from it.

  7. Hello, Travel Cat. We were in Suite 801. There is only one bathroom. The forward SS Suites do not have the extra 1/2 bath. That is a reason we love the Mariner SS aft. I am sorry to hear that you don't like the PH's on the Explorer, as I value your opinions. I did not tour any of these suites while aboard last June, and cant really tell from the virtual tours and photos, so...are there pocket doors between the sleeping and living area, or just the blackout curtains to draw in the evening? We really are not concerned much about the closet, and can just pull our suitcases out if we need to store items there. Most of our clothing is travel worthy...knit and almost wrinkle free. Although we do take advantage of the free pressing and laundry.

BTW, I will ask this question again, as I think you missed it the first time: How is your temperature control wrist band working? Does it really make you cooler or warmer? Our son-in-law is an attorney working on the patent, and he says they are to be for sale later this year, and has already ordered one for our daughter. I would love to forward what you have to say about this product to him....unless you are not allowed to reveal anything yet.

  8. We were in a SS suite forward and would never book it again. The slant of the windows make it uncomfortable to stand or sit to look out the windows. The bed area is not affected so you can stand up there. The sliding glass doors to the balcony whistled constantly even though the wonderful suite attendant tried to remedy it each evening. There is a door to the separate bedroom, but it is glass, so if one person stays up late, the light may be bothersome. It has to be propped open with a plastic wedge. The suite had many maintenance issues..both the tub and shower faucets leaked and were replaced. Wood paneling falling down in living area, and 2 of the window shades were broken the entire cruise. We are booked in a penthouse for our next explorer cruise and hope we are happy with the “downsizing”. This is my opinion, and perhaps others have had better experiences with these forward suites. BTW, the Mariner aft SS suites are exquisite!

  9. Again, thank you for the info. John the sailor, what is American metal? We live in The Colony, Bastrop..a 20 minutes drive to ABIA.

TravelCat, my TA says that BA has “restricted” seats and never has luck booking them. Especially can’t pick seats. How can I give her more info to help with this. She is a Regent “something or other”. Meaning she has access to executives.

  10. Thanks for all your insights! What is your opinion of BA? We hear awful things about it's business class seat arrangements. And...you can't pick your seat unless you pay extra. Just asking, as they fly non-stop from Austin to LHR. (Think you might be arriving in Barcelona when we disembark in September?)

BTW: how is your wrist band temperature regulator working out? Are you allowed to give any info about it? According to my son-in-law, they will be available for sale later this year.
