  1. Passengers do that and like you say they do stiff the staff. They do that in restaurants all the time.

Chances are they could be put on a black or watch for list. I worked as a dealer for a short time in a casino. Our wages mostly consisted of tips. There was a belligerent customer that was rather rude and won a nice sum playing the tables. I colored him up and he left. The pit boss had to verify the amount because he was leaving with $500 chips and they watch those very closely. After he left the pit boss asked if I recieved any tokes and I told him nothing at all. He went into the computer and erased his comps for the day. Also tagged his account.

My best friend went on a cruise with his cheap a$$ brother in law. At the end of the cruise he stiffed the staff telling my friend f em I will never see them again. They got off the ship and he couldn't find his luggage. My friend and his wife stayed with them trying to find the luggage but left as to not miss their flight home. His brother in law and wife missed their flight and never did see their luggage again. My friend said they deserved it as the crew probalby tossed it over board.

Let them do as they please. As they have to live with themselves and karma will get even with them.

The person that wants to become a TA will soon find out how it feels to get stiffed as they will end up doing a lot of work with no pay as others will have them do all of the research and then book with someone else.

    Happy cruising

Maybe because I am from the UK, but I do not find the staff doing something with a GUESTS luggage ok.. Vindictive and that is not something I can condone..

I get that tipping is the way its done in US. I do tip, but also hate that I am told I have too because cruise lines so stingy to there staff. I repeat I do tip and I think the attitude of the person that said F them was wrong also.

As said maybe because I am from UK but i don't think its ok for cruise line staff to do something with someones property.

Before I am flamed I will repeat I do tip when I am in US and if someone extra nice or helpful I always give me..

  2. Thanks Comboy. I will certainly think on it all. It is expensive to do a solo cabin but may do that for peace of mind on my first cruise.

I think its a shame I have to pay gratuity for 2 people though even though I am on my own. I have no problem with paying tip even though in UK its a rare thing :) But paying for 2 people in single cabin a bit naff lol. Oh well will still be awesome.

Cruising looks a lot of fun and I am sure once i do my first I will do many more. Str8 and gay :)

  3. If you buy a soft drink package off a cruise company like Celebrity for Soda's etc. Do you still get 15% added on each time you get a soda??

I ask as I would want to get soda's etc often to get monies worth. However if tip is added each time I use this then it could get expensive?

    Thanks for any advice.

  4. That kind of behavoir does make me sad. Why people feel the need to be so nasty is beyond me.

I would have said to the person who made the Disney comment that maybe she would like to take them on a disney cruise for me then!!

As for the poster that said about being refused a seat at a table either due to having children or maybe racism.... Disgusting! I am sad the host did not pick up on it and have a word with them.

As others have said, you will find mean people everywhere. You will also find amazing people when you not looking for them :D

  5. Thanks for the reply Comboy with the information.

After what you said about the last NYC cruise they tries, it would make sense they would never do that again.

I will certainly go on a Atlantis or RSVP cruise next year and I know it will be a lot of fun!

BTW. That was great luck getting cabin to yourself those couple of time! Bargain.. Too much left to chance though. I like my space and unless I knew someone it is just not for me.

  6. Just emailed Atlantis and as you said I would need to pay a deposit as if 2 people were in the cabin. So would be $1000 deposit for Carribean. That is ok. However seems annoying I have to pay tips for TWO people even though I am on my own. I think that is a bit bad but nothing I can do about that.

  7. Yea I understand what you are saying about the possibility of isolating myself in my cabin.

Even though I can be a bit shy, I do push myself out of my comfort zone and there is no way I would be missing out on the parties etc :)

Just was not sure how easy it would have been to mingle in when solo. But yea this thread has certainly put my mind at ease.

  8. All interesting comments. It will be interesting to see what they do offer next year. Will have to wait and see.

I was surprised that Atlantis chartered the Allure the second time. I felt they pushed there luck. I was following it all even if I could not attend.

As you said the first time it was largest gay cruise on new ship AND 20th anniversary.

Was surprised of them to charter second time even after people saying too big and not enough space for a main party.

As said will be first cruise for me next year as long as I can get a cabin. Meant to do past few years but did not get round too. I am going to be 35 this year so its time to get going lol

Fair point about the extra days having to sail if you went from NYC.

Does anyone know how deposit works if single person booking?

I know I have to pay for 2 people, as I don't want to cabin share with a stranger.

Do I have to pay deposit for 2 people? Or is deposit a set fee regardless if only 1 person is on the booking? Think in past i saw deposit as $500 but not sure if that is per person or per booking.

Not sure if that makes any sense lol.

Also hoping booking in UK is easier enough with Atlantis Rep.

  9. Anthem of the seas will be in NYC for winter cruises I think.

It is a big ship but not as big as Allure I think and they managed to sell that one for the 20th.

Would it make sense for Atlantis to do a big 25th cruise in the med? Would it not be too expensive for US people to travel to Europe? I am guessing North America is Atlantis main market?

  10. Ahh. Sorry I maybe did not explain it very well.

Atlantis told me they would have NO details to release about a 2016 Anniversary cruise till Late Summer Early Fall. So that was just announcing a cruise not the actual cruise being in summer or fall. Sorry If I did not explain well.

That is why I am wondering if they planning an Anniversary Cruise for around October 2016 and hopefully something big

It is late in UK so I think I could be the one getting confused after all lol. I get what you saying now Eddiffin.

  11. thanks for the heads up. Will see what happends.

Is it poss they are planning Anniversary cruise instead of the normal La-Mexico in 2016? That would tie in with the timing Atlantis told me to expect details. They said Late summer early fall this year.

  12. thanks for the replies they were really helpful and put my mind at ease.

Yea I would have assumed they would have maybe hired Quantum or something for the Carribean next year for anniversary. Yet if they not announcing anything about anniversary cruise, then I guess it may be a med cruise as you said.

I would have though the 25th would be a huge deal.

Anyway either way I will go on a cruise next year. Just hoping the one for around this time next year does not sell out too fast! Any idea when they sold out for the one that is happening next week?

  13. Hey guys!

Next year I am planning my first cruise. Will probably be with Atlantis but could end up being RSVP.

No cruises announced for next year. I did email Atlantis to ask if they are planning a anniversary cruise as I think next year is there 25th?

They said no details yet and wont have any details till late summer or early fall. Sounds a bit late it the cruise would be for 2016?

Planning to go on my own which I am hoping means it will still be fun.

Is it easy to make friends on a charter cruise? A lot of the videos and reviews I read are groups or couples.

I am quite outgoing but can also be a bit shy in a new enviroment at first.

As I have never been on a cruise it looks exciting but also a bit daunting on my own. I am sure i will be fine though :)

Just wondering if many people go solo on these cruises? Or is it mainly couples and groups of friends.

    Thanks for any info.

  14. just watched some vids on you tube of walk around tours. very interesting to see it!

What surprised me is how little stairs it is to go up a floor lol. For some reason I thought it would be quite a few stairs per floor.

Forget the elevator I could run up and down them no problem lol.

One last question if that is ok. I see the life boats around the ship. Is it fair to say all mid ship cabins with balconies even high up, would look down onto a life boat instead of water?

  15. Thank you all for your replies. It is exciting planning a cruise :)

The dates and ports have not officially been announced yet, but from what they told me should be feb next year. Seems a very long way off lol.

You are right I have over estimated how big the ship is lol. Thanks for putting it all in perspective.

    Thanks again for the tips.

  16. Hi all,

I have read these boards on and off for a couple of years, but only just joined.

Next year I am planning my first cruise and looks like it will be on Celebrity Silhouette. Hoping this is a good ship for a first cruise.

Anyway the ship will be chartered by Atlantis and they bring on a lot of there own entertainment. I have read SO much and looked at pictures, but I guess till you go on your first cruise you never can imagine what a ship really does look like inside :) Very hard to imagine really.

Is it as straight forwards as walking from one side of a ship to the other side? Or does it not work like that?

Also apart from the pool area that is open air, is there many places you can go to be outside and see the sea? Or do you rely on having an in room balcony for that? as said hard to really visualize how it all looks.

Sorry went off on a tangent there.

My main question is cabin location. As I cannot really judge how big and vast everything is.

As said Atlantis brings a lot of there own entertainment, so not sure if that changes venues.

I would ideally like to be in a roughly central location to most things. Is that even possible?

Would this mean a mid level deck like maybe 6 or 7?

Another things and I know its a touchy subject but please forgive :)

I am a smoker, I fully understand there is only 4 locations to smoke. It sounds hardly any but it is what it.. So I guess I would like to not be too far from a smoking location. Not sure if it takes a long time on lifts to get to decks etc. So is there some cabin decks more suited for smokers to get too?

Not sure if being starboard or portside means it takes longer to get to certain areas.

Ok sorry if questions seems a bit silly but as I said never been on a cruise before.

    Thanks for any help.
