  1. Hi All, My second cup of coffee hasn’t kicked in, so there are some empty posts from me below. Was trying to reply to Empty Bucket. A couple of weeks ago, I’d emailed the Canadian Embassy in Cairo looking guidance, and pointed out (among other things) that I’d arrive by cruise ship and would be in Egypt less than 72 hours. I just got a response telling me to consult Egyptian authorities. It went on and quoted the current info on the Global Affairs page. Absolutely no mention at all of a 72 hour cruise exemption.
  2. The other responses are probably more correct, but Norwegian Gem as the host name, Port of Alexandria as the address and (I believe) my own phone number and email address. It worked!
  3. Good choices … but mine would be Rappie Pie. They sell it at the Sobeys in Nova Scotia, but not in New Brunswick (who knows why?).
  4. I was there a couple of weeks ago! Nice beach! Let’s hope Lee doesn’t do it too much damage! Halifax is out shopping in preparation.
  5. Hey Acadian Dad! Yes indeed, it will be interesting to see what transpires on the ground. Which east coast province are you from? I’m of Acadian descent on my mother’s side. Nova Scotia, traceable back to the Lord and Lady of Pubnico, pre English settlement and pre-Expulsion. I picked my Cruise Critic name when I was researching the family tree.
  6. Thanks for the information on the medications and customs. I wrote to the Montreal Consulate a couple of days ago for clarification of “psychotropic medication”. No response so I’ll email the Embassy later today. Although they fit within the definition, I can’t imagine that they’d be interested in medications for common mental health conditions: depression, anxiety, OCD, etc. etc.
  7. Ha ha! Not organized at all! I’ve still lots of things to do to plan this trip! I spotted the info on what you can’t bring into Egypt on the Canadian Foreign Affairs site. I think it’s way down on the page that lists all the Egyptian dangers. I wrote the Montreal consulate for clarification on allowed medications and what sort of documentation you need. I’ll post if I get any useful information. PS Has anyone seen the Toronto Star article about the Norwegian cruise ship that ran aground in Greenland? The closest rescue boat is 2000 km away. I would be sitting in a life boat with a large bottle of rum! The captain is saying there’s no risk to the passengers, but they expect the ship to release with high tide. Here’s hoping all goes well for the rescue.
  8. You can also email egypt.consulate@videotron.ca (Montreal consulate). I haven’t been able to get through on the Montreal or Ottawa phones.
  9. Still no update on Visas at the Canadian Global Affairs site. Also …. Has anybody read the Global Relations blurb on things that cannot be brought into Egypt? It prohibits psychotropic drugs (whether you have a prescription or not). Also certain cosmetics (huh?) and veterinarian meds. I googled “psychotropic drugs” and it includes a range of mental health medications. Perhaps they’re only targeting marijuana, but that’s not what it says. I’ll try to get some clarification and post.
  10. Good news indeed! I’m hoping to see it on the Global Affairs site tomorrow.
  11. I was told last week that the updated shots would be available in Nova Scotia sometime in October. I’m calling tomorrow to try and book an appointment and will post if there’s any further information.
  12. Canadian Global Affairs has not yet updated their online information.
  13. 🎉🍾🎉👏🥳😁 Hurray! Just got updated information from my link to the Montreal Consulate FB site. People with E-Visas before October 1st, they’re valid for the period stated in the Visa! Also instructions for other Visas (see below). Sorry the FB copy is fuzzy. Perhaps go to the Consulate FB page.
  14. Leave yourself lots of time to work on the E-Visa application. It’s buggy and a lot of error messages with no indication of how to fix them - e.g., I had to delete my postal code entirely; when writing a paragraph you can’t put a double space after a period, and there are more. It took me about 3.5 hours to fill out a short form and upload a picture of my passport. A woman on FB got stuck and paid a lot of money to Visa Central to do it. But yes, the turnaround was very fast. It may be slower now that there are more applications.
  15. I applied for the E-Visa, I believe, on August 30th, and it was approved on September 3rd. It was valid for 90 days, but the new rules via the Government say all visas are void in October.
  16. I’m from beautiful Halifax. I’ll update if I get any meaningful response. I sure hope the E-Visas are okay. If not, I’ll either mail my passport in (not crazy about that) or drive to Montreal. I wouldn’t consider doing the latter except I believe we couldn’t board our cruise in Istanbul without the proper Visa.
  17. I just checked, and the Canadian Foreign Affairs site is still listing the original restrictions on entering Egypt, no exception for E-Visas obtained before the end of October. I have a Visa dated September 3rd, the day the new rules came into effect. I’m a worrier and would love to see the Canadian site updated. I’ve sent emails about and will update if I hear anything.
