  1. Croatia you'll need Kune, although Euro is often but not always accepted. When we were on the Majesty a fortnight ago they ran out of Kune so best advice would be get some before you leave the UK.

We actually took a taxi from Dubrovnik. The universal price was 13 Euros to get to the Old Town which certainly seemed good value for 4 of us. We took that option rather than wait for a bus and the converted some Euros for Kune at a very reasonable exchange at a shop near Pile Gate where the taxi dropped us off.

  2. Hi mollythedolly,

447 was a lovely cabin. Configured as two single beds either side of two chest of drawers, you could rearrange the cabin to create a double but that would have create issues with having to jump over each other to get to bed. Whilst Mrs Deep Thinking Fish prefers the double, to be honest the two singles were absolutely fine as they were, and very comfortable. We slept well.

There is also storage under the dressing table/mirror and certainly enough hanging storage for both of us for a fortnight including Captain's night regalia - twice.

The fridge is handy, there's a small storage area next to that plus you can always put things under the beds.

And best of all housekeeping kept it clean with freshly made beds morning and night.

    Enjoy!

  3. Just returned from Corfu.

The bus from the port, once exiting the Terminal building is a 16 to the Old Town, at a cost of EU 1.70 one way per person. The ride is 5 minutes and takes you to a large square immediately outside of the Old Town shops etc.

The walk would be pleasant, but 30 minutes at least.

Possibly of better value is to pay EU 5.00 per person for unlimited bus travel for the day. We took the bus to the Old Town then caught another bus (no. 10 bus - this bus stop was 5 minutes walk away, please note), to the Achilleon Palace and had a lovely tour around there.

The unlimited bus travel can also take you to Benitses (no. 6), Dassia (no.7), and Pelekas (no.11).

If you have time and I think you will, and are not doing an excursion then use of this all day bus pass would, in my opinion be recommended.

  4. Hi RU Deaf - unbeknowingly we were obviously opposite you in cabin 447. Our kids were in 4043 next to you!

We returned early this morning after a two week cruise where the return journey had elements of farce akin to the Luton Airport fiasco of July 24th.

Your assessment of that wet Friday in Luton is as I recall it now, the £5 food voucher for a 7.5 hour delay being somewhat short of Thomson's own stated compensation (it should have been a full meal for each person travelling) so we'll see how that is received by Thomson.

Yes the problem was the weather radar, but the problem started because the captain couldn't get to Luton by the appointed take off time, and then having failed to repair the problem I see no reason why said part took apparently four hours to get to Luton from Gatwick! It was still being installed when we boarded at 10.40pm!

By the time we boarded at 5.30am we were too tired to even take the clingfilm off the sandwiches that were offered.

We didn't experience quite as many plumbing problems although the water temperatures were unpredictable and it was at times bizarre to experience the toilet working 10 minutes after the button was pushed!

Coming home yesterday started with the utmost pleasure of Corfu Airport, a place not fit for any human. We are instantly told there would be a 1.5 hour delay (so at least 6 hours better than the outbound experience), and furthermore that Thomson would not be operating the flight. Titan Airways stepped up. Sadly despite the delay the airline were not inclined to offer a free non alcoholic refreshment on board because the delay wasn't of their making. Well, it sure as hell wasn't caused by me.............................!!! Not impressed.

Corfu Airport is not a place to spend time, the staff there are officious, the air conditioning is non existent and seating areas way short of what's needed.

The cruise was great, loved the Majesty and the way we were served and treated by everyone on board. What a shame that plane flights were necessary to top and tail a lovely holiday. Cruising from Southampton next year I think and that's a sad indictment of what the Majesty provided.

  5. Hi Cityfan

Went on Majesty in November 2013 and had cabin inside plus 4043, must say I was slightly worried about being inside as I am quite claustrophobic but this cabin was lovely. It was on the end and very quiet with plenty of room, near stairs and lift and medical centre. Sometimes the shower would go hot and cold but it was nothing to get upset about. It was a three berth cabin and had plenty of wardrobe space. I thought the standard outside looked a wee bit small but that is only in my opinion. If I were to go on the Majesty again I would most certainly book either a inside plus or outside plus.

What was the sleeping configuration of Cabin 4043? Was it three singles or a double and single? I guess it may have changed since but an idea of lay out would be handy. Thanks.

  6. Thanks for the replies. I guess it's really what you make of it and that there will be things not to everyone's taste and preference.

As a first time cruiser I'm really looking forward to the experience. We travel in high summer so I assume the ship will be fully booked. Does this create issues with queues at meal times or is there room for everyone?
