  1. Son filed for passports on June 1st and got a letter last week stating the pictures were over processed to redo them. We leave in 6 weeks from this week.

That scares me - as the photos snapped by the postal worker and submitted with our 3 applications varied greatly in "head size". In hindsight, I'd have gone to the post office equipped with a printout of photo requirements and a ruler for verification. I falsely assumed that the postal employees verify that the photos they take, print and submit meet all requirements.

It's too bad it takes the Department of State the entire processing time just to inform an applicant that the photo is unusable.

  2. A review was posted by someone just off the Breakaway who said they shouldn't have bothered with the UBP because it took way too long to get a drink. He suggested it took a minimum of 15 minutes regardless of location or drink order (alcohol vs. soda) to get a bartender to fulfill an order.

While not knocking the reviewer's takeaway from his personal experience, I'm hopeful his impression isn't reality. But I have nothing to compare it to, as I've only been on Dawn-class ships without the UBP, where I've all-but-adopted bartenders and other service staff by warming up to them ($$) early in the trip.

So... for those recently off the BA during the UBP promotion periods, what can your share about you bar service experience? Where are the best-bets for good service, both walk-up and via table service?

We'll be traveling in early August, which I suspect will be a peak time (both in numbers and UBP partakers).

    Cheers! Doug

  3. Here's my updated list (started spreadsheet with some titles including ingredients in case bar staff doesn't remember how to make them)...

It would appear we're up to a 7x7 bingo card. I'm thinking I might just have to print some up for our big family cruise in August.

And because I'm so competitive, I'm hoping someone takes some photos so I can later see what we did on the cruise.

  4. Ricky met us on time at the pier in front of the ship. He was welcoming, courteous, well spoken and generously shared his wealth of knowledge of Bermuda and it's history...

    Hi Jane -

I'm trying to book Ricky for our party of 15. Were you on his new mini bus for the tour? Could you provide any info as to seating arrangements, and if you think 15 people (mix of adults and kids) could fit comfortably?

He mentioned the 15th seat is the jump seat behind the driver's seat.

    Thanks!!

    Doug

  5. really? I have it cranked up and all I hear is the wind, engines and an occasional horn.

I suspect it all depends on the wind direction. While I can't currently hear on-ship noises, in the past I've also been able to hear the deck music and announcements.

Last Friday as the Breakaway departed, I was hearing every song being played.

  6. We're also sailing the Breakaway with a large group (15). We originally booked with NCL, and then transferred the reservations to a TA. We're now in the process of making reservations in order to sit together on several nights.

Through "special events", which is where we were directed for reservations of 14+ people, they appear to be willing to get us 5:30pm ressies in the MDRs, or various times in the specialty restaurants. Since 5:30 doesn't work for our group, we're simply making two ressies around the same time for a party of 8 through the standard online booking process. Depending on the dining room / time requested, it appears you can request a reservation for up to 12 people, regardless of traveling party size.

We're early in the process, and are still sorting through the options available to us...

    Doug
