  1. Personally I would feel horribly guilty making someone bring me food that late. I'm pretty sure they never get to sleep in. I would go to a 24 hour venue or just go to sleep. If I did order I'd feel compelled to give a generous tip.

But for me it's moot as I'm never up that late.

Do you feel horribly guilty having someone captain the ship while you sleep or clean your toilet ? I don't think they go to an employees cabin and wake them up to deliver food but even if they did, it's the job.

  2. Being from New England, I would never eat what passes for lobster tails on a cruise ship. The only good lobster tails are fresh ones just pulled from the ocean and steamed and eaten with butter.

What you get on the ship is but a pale imitation, and probably not even Maine lobster.

So what ? Can they not be enjoyed for what they are, or aren't, by some of us as an included part of are cruise price ? The fish they serve is pathetic compared to the fresh stuff I get here but I still enjoy it on the cruise for what it is.

  3. Interesting thought, but I think I fall on the other side of the fence with this one. Cruising is inexplicably unique in the fact that you get to book a very specific room, and not just a category. I don't know of many land based resorts (other than maybe some very unique boutique or villa setups) that do this. And, I think in part as a result, people have understandably become a bit obsessed with room location. I'm heading to Vegas this Friday. I have a suite at The Wynn. There are numerous floors and locations where I can end up. Some are a bit more appealing than others, but in that category, none are really "terrible". Maybe the same should be true on cruise ships. Granted I LIKE my ability to choose a specific room (and I am doubtful we'll see this disappear. But it only behooves the cruise line to make sure they have the ability for big commitments. No land based resort would commit a room (even a suite) that is connecting to someone and then not be able to combine them if possible should someone be looking to do so.

On a cruise everybody checks in and out on the same day. A land based resort the guests check in and out on different days and stay different lengths of time. Much easier to block a specific room when every guest comes and goes on the same day.

  4. Looking at cruises for next year and noticed that now Freedom does not arrive St. Thomas until 12 PM. I guess they just keep shaving off an hour from St. Thomas every year to save fuel costs.

The first time we did that route, we arrived at 9, then it changed to 11, now it's at 12 PM. Just seems like a really short, almost wasted day now. In the winter months, that just gives you five hours of sunlight.

I agree, that really messes up the day.

  5.

What I do not understand is why parents bring their children to see a show about sex, murder, greed and adultry. I would not want to explain to a 12 year old why the man asked "are you sure you husband is not home?" or see very attractive show girls move in very sensual ways.

    DAY TWO: NASSAU

So we finally made it to Senior Frogs and find out they open at 11 AM, just 90 minutes to pound down some "Yard drinks". SO......... let me say that as someone a little older, I really should not have tried to keep up with my 22 y.o. and 19 y.o. son in the drinking department:) But I had to hang with them as I wanted to make sure they would get back to the ship on time which was 1:30. WE had a very good time at Senior Frogs. The bartenders try as hard as they can to get you toasted in two hours so that you can stagger your way back to a ship (hopefully your ship). One, OK TWO "Yards" free shots poured by the great bartenders (our guy was Fritz) and then just follow the crowd back to the ships!

    Senior Frogs

Great pics. Thanks for taking the time to post them.

What I don't understand is why someone who takes their 19 year old son to Senor Frogs to see how many yards and free shots they can pound in 90 minutes would question the parenting decision of someone taking their 12 year old to a PG-13 play. I don't know that I have a problem with either but if forced to let my 12 & 19 year old children go on vacation with one of those parents I would choose the one who takes the 12 year old to a play where the content is no worse than what is on free TV.

  6. Cool! No more smuggling threads. After all, having a bottle in your room was just for "convenience", right?

If I am reading the new program correctly it does not allow for keeping a bottle of liquor and some beers in your room. If that is the case then for the convenience of having a drink on my balcony whenever the whim strikes me smuggling will still be necessary for me. If the new program allows me to walk up to a bar and ask for three unopened beers and a pint of liquor to go then you are correct and most likely my smuggling days will be over.

  7. Would I be allowed to take on Metheglin? It's a fortified honey wine. In a wine bottle, LOOKS like wine but its made from honey, not grapes.

Any ideas? If not I'll take a bottle of my favoured sparkling wine. But there are a few things that fit under the 'wine' heading.

It won't be allowed on. They have specially trained dogs that can tell if your wine is made from honey instead of grapes.

  8. We put our things down and went to get some food. I tried the omelet station. They can make omelets, but people don't realize that they can fry or scramble plain eggs, fresh for you. Rae got eggs scrambled with cheddar cheese.

My omelet had ham, cheddar, mushrooms, and tomatoes. So yummy. Sorry, it was so good that I took a bite (or two or three) before taking the pic:

I have to say kudos to the omelet station attendant. She's in the pic above. I don't recall her name, but she was always so polite, patient, and friendly in the midst of the chaos that is the Windjammer. She always had a smile.

Don't know why I noticed or why I am commenting on it and I could be totally wrong but it looks like the attendant is wiping her nose as she reaches for a plate.

Great review. Thanks for taking the time to do it.

  9. Last Novemeber when on FOS I dove St Thomas, booked on my own.

I wasn't going to dive in St Martin because I kept hearing how bad it

was. At the last minute I figured some diving is better than no diving so

I used the RCI excursion in St Martin. I enjoyed the dive, reef/wreck.

Plenty to see and a shallow dive.

I snorkeled in Coco Cay because the scuba trip was full. You have to go

through RCI. Lots of sea life. I don't know if you scuba in the same area

but the swim out to the plane was not bad, lots of people do it.

  10. I was in 1688 on Mariner. The room seemed about the size of a JS but the closet & bathroom are the same as any D1. We booked this same room for our next cruise while we were on the ship. I think this is the best cabin on the ship for a non suite. I would even take it over a JS unless it

    was on deck 10 aft.

The balcony is very large and has part covered and part open. It is a very quiet cabin. Not much foot traffic on the aft. The view is great.
