My MIL traveled with us on many cruises and at the point that she needed it we brought the care giver we employed at home. This person made all the difference and we had an established relationship and she actually shared the cabin so she could assist throughout the night as necessary. We still got help up and down the gang plank and at other times here and there. We ended up giving the care giver respite a bit every day and then one whole day to allow her some alone time. The whole arrangement worked well and was well worth the money it cost.

I think I understand the distinction but can someone confirm? There are actual Starbucks kiosks on some ships that are not included in any package, but there are other kiosks/venues that serve espresso drinks that are included (and are some/all of these non-Starbucks kiosks selling Starbucks espresso, just not from an actual Starbucks kiosk?)

I actually bring separate envelopes with the cash needed for room service tips, steward tips, taxi, etc. I put all the envelopes in a zippered pencil case type bag. We take $20-$30 one dollar bills and break larger bills as needed.

Correct on both counts :) the plastic tumbler is only needed to use a freestyle machine, otherwise you can get a glass of soda at any bar or restaurant. Only fountain soda, no cans. Some venues which don't have a fountain I have seen them pour it out of the big 2L soda bottles into a glass for me.

We've done both and absolutely take a cab now for all the reasons mentioned. Do you have a super tight connection? Is that what your BIL is worried about?

We have sailed on several RCI cruises but it's been awhile. I want to confirm something:

You don't have to use your plastic Coca Cola tumbler to get soda with any of the packages. Is that right? You show that you have a package and will be given a fountain soda in a glass.

And just confirm what I think already know--no package includes canned soda of any kind. Right?

Just as a gesture of kindness and to give them some extra spending money while they're in port. I've heard from many stewards that they choose to sleep on the time off, but I've often seen staff in port having a meal or shopping.

I do not like coke with my rum so I'm wondering if I could bring a case (12 cans) of Pepsi on when we board the Summit in Feb?

We have left eight 12 packs of Diet Dr. Pepper strapped together with a luggage tag with our bags pierside and it showed up in our stateroom with our luggage. We've done it several times.

I'm agnostic on towel deposits, but I definitely think towel animals should be licensed.

We've been lucky to have great Sommeliers on all of our Celebrity cruises and have always tipped extra at the end. As ChezMaryLou said, it's a personal decision, certainly not mandatory in any way.

No they will not remove their drinks, I asked.

 

It is sectioned off to fit small bottles of liquor. The bottom is larger and I removed a couple cans of soda that made room for about 8 small bottles of drinks we brought on board.

 

 

 

We were inside, friends with balcony had the same mini bar.

We've been on Celebrity many times and had a regular small fridge and they happily removed the items. When you described it as a "mini bar" I thought it might be sectioned off as you described, like in some hotels. This must be a change--it's been a few years since we've sailed on Celebrity. Sorry to hear this.

When you say it's not a frige, it's a mini-bar, can you elaborate? If the drinks were removed would you be able to put your own drinks in?

Also, may I ask what category cabin you were in?

Gail8, I noticed the over the door shoe hanger in the picture! It looks like storage is at a premium in those cabins as they lack the upper cabinets around the vanity. It looks like the shoe hanger is hanging from the closet door? Or is it the washroom door? I'll likely get one and do the same - it looks useful for things like sunscreen and such. I've never purchased one for a cruise - what kind of top should I be looking for? (What is it hanging from?).

I can't speak to the specific cabin, but I can tell you about over the door shoe holders! We buy the ones that have two square hooks at the top that go over the top of the closet or someone's bathroom door and have always allowed the door to fully close. We have bought different brands and they all have worked. We have bought them online and at a dollar type store, never more than $10 or so. We have been on a couple different Celebrity ships as well as other lines and the shoe holder always works. Even when we book a suite with more than enough storage there is something nice about having a centralized place for things you want to grab as you're going out the door. Make sure you get the clear kind--that's part of what makes it work so well!

This has more than likely been asked lots of time, but for the life of me can't remember - but what are "well drinks"??? This is not a term we are familiar with in Australia - does it mean the run of the mill brands of a particular liquor? Sort of like the cheaper brands? Which when all is said and done is quite okay in a mixed drink because you really can't taste the difference, especially if you add coke etc.

Yes, that's the general definition of well drinks. It refers to something other than what we'd call "top shelf". [emoji483][emoji484]

It really does vary port to port, cruise to cruise, ship to ship....

 

Some go for 2/3 hours to shop for themselves and friends for

 

"necessities"......toiletries and stuff....some may get 1/2 day and

 

go to the beach....some sleep in.......and not all crew can even

 

get off the ship in every port at all.

 

If you want to give them extra $ for that stuff, like I said, that is up

 

to you.

 

You asked if people do that.....I can't answer for other people.......

 

I usually give extra at the end of the cruise, but that is just me.

You mean on your cruise? Personal time off when you are cruising or

when they are going home for vacation? Sometimes they don't even

get off the ship when it is in port.....sometimes I will ask my waiter

or cabin attendant if they get to go into port but as for giving them

an extra tip for that time? You can always do whatever you like but nope,

I don't give them extra money for that time. Sometimes all they want

to do is take a nap.....

Sorry-could have been clearer. Yes, every steward we've had has had some time off during the cruise--and some have gone off the ship. I've always thought it might have been nice if we'd given them a little spending cash. I'm sure you're totally right about many of them choosing to sleep! I can't imagine working that hard AND maintaining such a positive attitude!
