  1. Nope. We've Cruised on the Adventure four times, Explorer once, Liberty twice and the Jewel once and we had no issues with the beds/mattress. FYI...we prefer a firm mattress.

I could probably get over the firmness of the mattress. I've never encountered anybody who enjoys being able to feel the coils lol. That's what has me wondering if not all the beds are the same.

Maybe we need to move up in room category?

  2. some like them firm some like them soft, it think its hard to please everyone with mattresses. Its not like you can request your mattress type in your booking :)

Its just like how some people love the Windjammer and others hate it....

I am always sore a few days into vacations until my body adjust to a mattress that isn't my own.

And besides, if I don't sleep well in our room I can always catch a nap pool side :D

You know, I think some of the mattress issues go beyond an opposed preference to a soft or a firm mattress.

I love a soft mattress and struggled on my recent AotS cruise as the mattresses were rock hard. That in itself I could have dealt with, but the mattresses were either very cheap, very worn or both. You could feel the springs. I don't know anybody who likes to feel the coils in a mattress lol.

  3. So it seems like the mattresses vary from ship to ship or even room to room?

I'm just wondering how some people love the beds and other had experiences like mine.

As I mentioned above, even if your prefer a firm mattress those things that were on the Adventure were awful.

I don't know if I should expect the same for the Enchanment or the jewel or what.

  4. I just returned from a wonderful cruise on the AotS! We ended up booking two more on board 3-night on the enchantment in a few months and a 9-night on the Jewel this time next year.

The only sore spot on our trip was the bed! WTH did they find those things?!? It was awful. I emailed the concierge a couple weeks before our trip to request a foam topper (which I heard you could do through this forum). She emailed me back saying that they didn't have foam toppers, but another topper. I don't know what that pad was made of as it was the thinnest thing I'd ever seen. Our wonderful suite attendant Princess and the Pea'd us and piled up about 5 duvets on the bed, but it only did so much good.

We are planning on buying a fluffy topper and foam pad to bring in a spare suitcase on our upcoming trips so we can actually get a decent night sleep.

Are the beds on Enchantment or Jewel any better? We're in a GS on both.

  5. The only option for non-certified divers would be to do a Discover Scuba course. It's a bit of walk through in a pool and then a shallow dive with an instructor (or divemaster maybe). It isn't a certification, but a way to try scuba without the long certification process.

I'm not sure if they do Discover Scuba, but give Stuart Cove in Nassau a call. They're a fantastic Op. If they can't accommodate, I'm sure they can point you to another reputable shop.

  6. Perspective is just that. I do not condone berating anybody or even airing grievances through improper channels such as meeting so and so on an elevator.

I will say with so many passengers and crew people will have different experiences. I think cruise ship food is just awful. The better is only marginally so in my opinion. I know this and choose to cruise despite this for other reasons. So unless it's something like raw chicken, I'm not complaining about the food on a ship. I know what to expect.

But I can see how it would be a different story entirely to read about how amazing and wonderful the food on the ship is and then experience the food.

Of course, some people are just unhappy complainers.

  7. This is truly truly truly tragic and my heart goes out to all involved and affected.

I just read/watched the lawyers statement and his response that the big anti-gay comments was to say "hi, lipstick" over and over. Now I realize that words affect everybody differently, but c'mon. Any woman has heard far far more offensive and scarier comments simply walking down the street.

That sounds like something a 1st grader would come up with. There must have been some more egregious things said/done if they are claiming RC anti-gay staff caused this.

  8. I didn't take malaria pills when I went to Cambodia, but did when I went to Africa. I had a horrible reaction to them. I ended up skipping the pills and chancing the malaria.

  9. I love my Vera Bradley hanging travel organizer (I think that's the name). It's fabulous for cruising or even hotel stays where counter space is limited. I just hang it on the back of the door or a towel rack and pull stuff out.

I tend to bring just the makeup basics-a primer, bb cream, mascara, a lip stain and a small shadow pallete.

I bring travel size of my face wash. I bought little 5ml pump bottles that are perfect for things that just use a couple dabs like eye serum and even moisturizer. They are even enough for a week of primer/BB cream for me as I only use very light coverage.

They make different sizes and I love these things! I stopped having to try to collect the right sample sizes and just make my own. You can fit a TON on these in a quart sized ziplock.

Lush shampoo bars are a weight/space saver and don't count towards liquid.

  10. I've gone with Blue Island Divers a few times and quite enjoyed their op.

I have heard people complain about the diving in St. Thomas, but I don't get it.

I think it depends on where you usually dive and what you find enjoyable. I've run into a lot of people that scoff at 35'-40' dives and only want to dive 80'-90' plus feet.

I like St. Thomas just fine. It's warm, generally has very nice vis, and several wrecks and reefs with lots of little things to see.

  11. The CL/DL has real milk for the specialty coffees. You can get specialty coffee in the MDR with the Replenish package.

Oh, I thought the CL only had one of those machines that makes cappuccinos from powder like hot chocolate. They actually have real dairy cream and/or milk? That is definitely something to consider for the value of the replenish package.
