  1. We're seriously considering taking a cruise to Japan, departing Beijing, next year.

Will the clients be mainly Chinese? Or will there be a mix of European/American/ Aussies on board?

Majority Chinese, We did the Beijing (Tianjin), Busan, Nagasaki and Hong Kong last year and more then 3k are from Mainland China.

  2. Would happen to know the location of the closest Hop-on, Hop-off bus stop from this pier?

    Thanks,

    Ron

If you are at Habourfront MRT, I suggest you take the train instead. You can get the MRT card for sgd@12 ($7 travelling value and $5 refundable value). If you don't have small sgd notes, you can always top-up your card value with at the Station Control.

From Habourfront you can travel to Haw Par Villa, Sentosa, Little India, Chinatown almost all major tourist places easily. http://www.yoursingapore.com/see-do-singapore/culture-heritage/heritage-discovery/haw-par-villa.html

  3. Thanks for the tip, but how bad really is this traffic back up? Like how much time should i give myself for crossing the border?

Depending on the period you are here ie Singapore/Malaysia schoolholidays, weekends, public holidays etc. I had clear the causeway from 1/2 hour to 1 or even caught in heavy traffic for up to 4 hours at least before.

  4. As fate has it, i'll find myself back in Asia sometime next year, but this time i wanna squeeze in a quickie from Singapore, its expensive there so im thinking of Johor pre cruise stay.. Anybody done it?

Possible if you stay in Johor Bahru but do be mindful of the heavy traffic at the causeway between Singapore and Malaysia (vice versa), Immigration clearance, Transportation etc it may not be worth it. You can find many reasonable accommodations for less then sgd$200.

  6. I don't know if it still exists, but the Singapore Zoo at Night is amazing!! We have been several times. Many of the animals are nocturnal and they don't even know you are there!!!

    :)

Yup the Night Safari is still around with the Zoological Gardens and River Safari. A few years down the road the Bird Park will also be relocated there. :)

  9. On reading about this I see that it is weather dependent. Can anyone tell me if you are able to book this more than once. Was thinking of making a couple of bookings a few days apart so I don't miss out. If the weather is fine on the first day, then I can just cancel the second one, and if not, I have the second booking as a back up.

You can change it on board provided there are available slots.

  10. Hi

I am going to the above ports on Mariner of the Seas in January....

Any recommendations for any of the ports above? Each port we are there from 8am-5pm....

    2 teenagers and 2 adults

Not sure if we could physically do the Batu Cave Steps :o - is it worth going regardless?

Prefer to do local tours or on our own.... prefer not to pay the high prices the ships charge:(.

Also tendering at Phuket for 2 days.....

    thanks in advance...:D

Hopefully this thread will greatly assist you in your planning. :)

  11. I think Haw Par Villa should be added to this list. What a bizarre fascinating place that tells stories of Chinese Folklaw using statues , carvings and figurines. It's right near Haw Par Villa MRT station and free entry.

Yes and I had recommended in other threads. :)

  12. At Raffles you dont just buy a Singapore Sling , or Take High Tea , you are buying the atmosphere of the bygone days of the British colonial era.

When we first visited Singapore, Raffles was an abandoned derelict building boarded up with plywood....to visit and see it today is a treasure.

I concur and to dine and stay there is truly an expensive experience haha...just kidding and yes I had dine there on many occasions. :)

  13. Excellent advice - thanks! I ended up booking Ovation for a long cruise that goes from Singapore to Beijing, with stops in Vietnam, Hong Kong and Seoul. That itinerary checks a number of stops off my bucket list and, honestly, I'm a huge fan of new ships! So I think it's going to work out beautifully.

WELCOME to Singapore. You will like the Ovation OTS. :) and if ever you want to do the Mariner OTS, read this review by gapearl. http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2278154&highlight=mariner

  14. We are re thinking the cable car as it will be a very busy cruise, where a number of excursions are advisable.

I have just been reading the Langkawi cruise port page on CC. It refers to, "The Star Cruises jetty, where many big cruise lines dock....", but does not mention another port used by smaller ships.

We will be on a very small ship, (15,000 ton), so does anyone know if it may be docked elsewhere - I cannot find any other details on line. The port is not down as tender transfer.

Also I have seen a review which mention a shuttle bus, does anyone know where cruise lines may take passengers on a shuttle bus?

There is only 1 jetty (Star Cruise jetty) which all cruise ships docked.

  15. Thanks. Have looked into this but really want to spend time at airport and we will have spent the previous day doing what we want to do in Singapore itself.

    Welcome to Singapore!!

Have fun in the BEST Airport in the world. :) There are lots of things you can find in all 3 linked Terminals. There are also places when you can get a nap, massage, butterfly park, duty free shoppings, lounges, local food, restaurants etc after immigration clearance. Hope you have fun exploring our Airport. :)

  16. We have four hours to wait at marina Bay terminal for our planned transfer to Changi. Is there really nothing to do there - no cafes, no shops etc as their website makes no mention of these. Wondering whether to try to rearrange our transfer.

Suggest you rearrange and spend the 4 hours inside Changi Airport. :)

  17. thanks! i'm just hoping we get far enough away from land that this applies. my mom doesn't do anything but gamble on board so this cruise wouldn't be good for her if she couldn't play blackjack. and, ok, i admit... i like to gamble a bit too :D

We local Chinese in Singapore would say "HUAT AH" meaning, wishing you the BEST and WIN BIG!!!
