  1. I’d love to have a wrist one! I also hate lanyards! I used to use a half card holder attached to an alligator clip. It’s great for most things. Easy to take the card out and hand it to the bar tender, or just extend it to get into the cabin.

I think this trip I’m going to take a purse because of needing to carry my phone around. I’m a leave it in the safe person usually, but ya can’t do that if you want to book dinner or find out where the heck my wife went to now! She just wanders off a lot without letting me know where she’s at. Like when I told her I was getting breakfast and I’d meet her back in the room, and she decided to get off the ship. So I panicked for an entire hour until I thought to check with guest services to see if she was still on board.

First day won't be to bad in my experience. You will have following seas (and winds). Last day is a completely different animal and you will be heading home smack into the south bound Alaskan current and south bound winds, so if the ship is making 15 knots and running into a 15 knot wind (I'll let you do the math. Cabo will be hot and HUMID until late October and rain is a possibility. If your sailing is Oct 22, we'll be watching you sail by from our timeshare in Cabo (Pueblo Bonito Sunset Beach). It's just south of lighthouse mountain. Trivia - just north of lighthouse mountain (Cabo) is where they filmed the beach scenes for the movie Troy. Hopefully you won't be dodging tropical storms/hurricanes. It's the tail end of hurricane season but west coast storms during Sept/Oct tend to hug the coastline more closely. July/Aug - they tend to head toward open water (and Hawaii).

We have a Spa Cabin booked for Nov 26. Stateroom 12212

Thanks for all the info! I’m not a fan of the wind when it’s lower 70’s, so I like that I’ll be able to enjoy and inside hot tub!

I'll share what I have been able to find by searching the topics here...

    • although these rooms included a pass to the "thermal suites", MANY people advise the thermal suites on Vista class ships are not as nice as the thermal suites on the Dream class ships (good to know, but since I've never been to the thermal suites on any ship, I won't be too disappointed).
    • As you mentioned, a couple free classes per person (I'm not finding that you can use your husbands classes if he doesn't, but great question).

I haven’t been to the spa yet either, but I am most looking forward to the heated loungers, and the infared sauna. I don’t mind that there isn’t a T-pool. I’m going in Oct, so I’m sure the first and last sea day it will be nice to have an indoor hot tub, even if it’s not a T-pool. There are YouTube videos that will walk you through the thermal suites, so you can see what all they have. Otherwise, I think you listed everything that’s included, except for the cabin amenities.

Another thing that I do after I get the cash for our trip is I separate the money using a paperclip. And then I take a sticky note and write what that money is for. So, I have 2 x $10s for our excursion in Cozumel to tip the tour guides. I take the two tens, paper clip them together and take a sticky note and write "Cozumel Tour Tip." All of our cash is kept in the safe, and we just pull out what we need for each port day, but this allows DH to know what the money is for (he's not the planner...) and we don't waste time each day trying to divide the cash out.

Why have I never thought about doing it this way! I am always trying to remember what amount I budgeted for what!

  5. I personally much prefer anytime dining. I’ve done late once, but that’s not for me. I’m not very good at watching time and I don’t care for the buffet, so I like to go whenever I’m hungry. I haven’t had to wait more than 10 mins for a table before. I much prefer a table for two, which I can request whenever I show up. Even when I don’t request it, it’s usually what we get.

Yes, I was wondering about such complications re. an MRI scan!
They won't need to X-ray me, I'll be telling them ahead of time.

I've also got a small screw in one of my teeth

(saw the dental X-ray just the other day!)

    Geez.. I could blow apart, couldn't I??!

Most medical implants are made of non-ferrous metal/ stainless steel. This way MRI won’t bother them (see article klfrodo  posted). Even if the metal implant in question is ferrous, after several weeks inside the body, fibrous scarring sets in reducing the risk of metal implants moving (source: ACR Guidance on MR Safe Practices). Depending on the area of the implant and area of the scan would determine how safe an MRI would be.

So, no, you wouldn’t blow apart, even if you were not properly screened prior to setting foot near MRI. (I am aware that you probably already know this, but knowledge is power! Also, I dislike that their is a ton of false information floating around about my field.)

Typically, the only body part that is x-rayed prior to MRI is the eyes. And then only in patients that have a risk of metal shavings in their eyes.

  7. I don’t separate bar bill from my total folio bill and still haven’t exceeded $500. I’ll probably spend less this upcoming cruise, the almost $500 was with my ex. I have tried the RCCL equivalent at $42.99 pp/ day for 2, and even with trying every single drink that remotely caught my eye, we still hoarded Red Bulls to break even!

Just boarded Symphony and toured the spa.  I asked about my cruise planner Thermal Spa pass.  She looked up my cabin # and saw I had purchased it.  She said it's good for any time they are open, not just the 2:30pm I booked.  Now that I have my SeaPass card I'm to head back to the spa and get a sticker put on my card to indicate the Thermal Spa access.

She was puzzled by the 2:30pm time slot.  I suspect that may the only way Royal can capacity control cruise planner purchases.  Only so many per time slot and once all all time slots sell out they are at capacity for pre-cruise purchases.  That's just a guess on my part.

Thanks for getting back to us! I suspect you may be right that they use it as a compacity control tool.

  9. I haven’t been on enough cruises to have port fatigue yet! Especially since I now have a new cruising partner that hasn’t been to the Caribbean or Bahamas! I do know that I would like to stay in the shop someday while it’s at port, just to experience the ship having less people on board.

I also ran into this article today. The Bahamas says that not enough people get off the big cruise ships while in port, and passengers aren’t spending enough while there, so they are cutting incentives for cruise lines.

  10. Another vote for squaremouth. I like their comparison feature, it helps me get to the details of the policy with mostly a glance. I can usually find good coverage for $60-80 for the 2 of us. One thing to note with cruise ship line providing coverage, they sometimes don’t cover any other parts of your trip.

  11. I have to say swingers seem quite defensive. Seem to need to prove that we "know nothing's " are just oblivious to the fact they exist.

And for the kids not knowing what their parents do? Um ok

Hey you folks can do whatever you want and defend it all you want but it's not the "everyone is doing it" lifestyle you try to portray it as

Of course for those that think "everyone's doing it" well the "kool aid " has done its job on you

Oh and please don't be jealous of those of us that don't swing and are happy as we are....

Disclaimer: save the snarky comebacks please because I just view it as your insecurity showing through.

Interesting that you think I am not only a swinger, but married with kids just because I said those that do live that life don’t announce it to their kids. I know a lot more about my parents bedroom lives as an adult then I ever did as a kid. My parents had boundaries (also not swingers). I think it is completely fair to say that most parents don’t parade their sex lives in front of underage children.

No one is jealous that you are happy as you are. Congrats on being happy. Everyone else just wants to be too, even if that definition is different for them.

You seem uptight. Maybe you need a lifestyle change. (I couldn’t NOT leave a snarky remark! Apparently I MUST be insecure)

Btw: I am not any of the things you think :) I just can’t stand people like you who think that if someone does something out of “normal” they must be corrupting children.

  12. lol I'm not paranoid vanilla at all....I just think it's rather disgusting that couples ...married or otherwise...swap spouses/partners and think that those who don't follow this lifestyle are the paranoid ones

Do they swing in private or is it group? Just wondering

Btw...yup I'm guessing it goes on all over the place....I live 30 minutes north of NYC and just heard of a little town a bit further north where it's a very common occurrence

No wonder the kids minds are all messed up...

Hey Colton...I hear your dad fooled around with my mother on Saturday night

Oh Tyler..was that your mom? I thought it was Mackenzies mom

Clearly you are paranoid. Why would you have any reason to think that if parents are swingers, that the kids know? Do vanilla parents tell their kids what they get up to in the bedroom? Why would you think it would be any different for any other parents?

  13. Their price on the site is always a sale price, regardless of how they word it. Usually the base price of the drink package is $60 per person. At least that is what Royal says when I have called - sales were then based off of that base price.

So for instance when they advertised it at 30% off the price is $42 per person. When advertised as buy one get one half off it is $45 per person. When advertised at 20% off the price is $48 per person.

I have to say I don't understand how no one seems to figure out the price listed is always considered to be a sale price to begin with.

It’s back to being advertised as $42 pp with no sale banner listed. So even if it is a “sale” it doesn’t say so. So of course I wouldn’t assume it’s a sale price when it is not advertised as such! I am not used to playing Royal’s weird “sale” game. I know pretty much everywhere does this, but RCCL seems to be more ridiculous than I am used to.

  14. It was a different sale yesterday. ;)

Just buy it when you like the price. Stop worrying about what they are calling it.

Just complaining because I won't buy it for $42 per person. Neither of us drink enough to make it worth it at that price. I would however buy it for the price I thought it was going for. It was just too good to be true, sadly.

  15. I got an email saying that the deluxe drinks package was on sale for my cruise, BOGO 50% off. I was excited, until I called (I really am starting to hate their website) and the price per person AFTER the discount said $42 per person per day plus service charge. I am pretty darn sure it was $42 per person per day yesterday with no sale. I am so disappointed!
