  1. Is it far to walk from the pier #9 where we will dock, to the bus station to catch Bus #1 to Grenen; or is there a shuttle?

It is a 15 minute walk to the bus stop at Tinghusvej/Sankt Laurentii vej. I don't know if there are shuttle busses.

Is the walk to Grenen paved?

    No. Grenen is a beach.

  2. I can reccomend Kødbyens Fiskebar in the meatpacking district. It is about 20 minutes walk from your hotel. I wouldn't exactly call it a quiet place but the food is good. The meatpacking district is a popular area for going out for dinner and drinks, there are a bunch of other restaurants in the area.

There is also Musling close to Torvehallerne. It is a bit further away, but you can take bus 5C from polititorvet, just next to your hotel.

If you like a good view. There is a sushi restaurant, sticks'n'sushi on top of the Tivoli hotel (5 minute walk from Marriott).

You should book in advance for all these places.

  3. There are usually large taxis (minivans) at the airport taking up to 8 passengers. The rates are higher than a normal taxi, but cheaper than two standard taxis. In general it is also cheaper than transfers arranged by the hotels or the cruise lines.

They are not as abundant as the normal taxis though so if the airport is busy you might have to settle for two standard taxis.

  4. Thank you so much Danish Viking! We are on B2B cruises and are in Copenhagen 3 times 25 August, 2 Sept and 9 Sept! We thought we might find a laundry to do our washing on 9 Sept which is a Sunday, any ideas?

You can probably have it washed at the hotel. But that tends to be expensive. A cheaper option is to use a self-service laundry (Møntvaskeri in Danish). Here is a search for those:

    https://www.google.dk/maps/search/m%C3%B8ntvaskeri/@55.6845105,12.5633047,15z/data=!3m1!4b1

The closest ones seem to be on Åboulevarden or Elmegade but there might be others which are not registered on google maps. They accept Danish cash. Prices tend to be around 4-5 USD for a big machine. Instructions will probably be in Danish, but there are likely people around on a Sunday you can ask for help. Danes generally speak English quite well. You can usually buy washing powder at an additional rate.

  5. Is it easy to get a taxi at the airport to take you into the city? And then easy to get a taxi from city to Oceankaj? Thanks for answering questions!!

There are always plenty of taxis at the airport.

From the city centre, it depends on where you are and what time. But it shouldn't be too difficult. In any case you can order one by phone using the the links provided in Danish Viking's post.

  6. Since there are 4 of us, would it be more efficient to rent a car for the day? Uber? any advantage to Wismar over Luebeck as a destination?

Renting a car would be a good idea. There are several rental outlets in Warnemünde. It might be cheaper too.

The motorway between Lübeck and Rostock passes by Wismar, so it would be easy to stop in Wismar on the way to Lübeck or back. Also, it is just 1h 30m between Warnemünde and Lübeck in car.

The townscape in Wismar is very nice, and the town houses there have been nicely refurbished during the last couple of decades.

Lübeck is more interesting though. The giant churches are very impressive, and it is an extrordinary feeling to stand in those great rooms thinking that Bach and Buxtehude have been playing their music in there.

  7. I have only done Lübeck to Wismar by train, but looking at the time tables, it would be difficult to do more stops besides Lübeck.

It takes 2½ hours from Warnemünde to Lübeck each way, so adding another stop on different rail lines will indeed be very rushed. Perhaps you could do both Schwerin and Wismar, but it would require some planing regarding timetables etc. The trains don't go that often.

I would just decide on one, and I would pick Lübeck or Schwerin over Wismar

  8. Seems like single tickets must be used within one hour.

Just to clarify. The three zone ticket is valid for 1h 30 minutes. The 2 zone ticket (e.g. centre to cruise terminal) is valid for 1h 15 minutes.

This means that you have to board the last means of transportation within the time limit.

For instance. You buy a three zone ticket at the cruise terminal at 8AM. You take bus 25 to Nørreport station. Then you can't board the metro for the airport later than 9.30 AM.

Time of puchase (and expiration, I think) is printed on the ticket.

  9. I appreciate the responses-- thank you. (As I noted, we would need to do some sort of organized tour: Can't do trains and my quite elderly husband is more comfortable with "supervision." I checked out the recommended tour from another post. And will also ask the Marriott what their recommendations are for tours.)

Are those two castles as splendid as Rosenburg, I wonder-- or is its apples and oranges? Or chocolate and vanilla ice cream.

I'd choose Frederiksborg castle over Kronborg castle if you were to go to only one of them. I believe some tours include both. Frederiksborg castle is more 'splendid' in my opinion when it comes to architecture and especially the interior. It also has a beautiful baroque garden. Kronborg has the added value of being the location of Shakespears' Hamlet.

  10. Hello Everyone,

Thank you'all for all the info in this thread. I salute you Danish Viking for the time to answer all questions of fellow cruisers.

I have one question if any of you guys can help. We will be cruising on RC Serenade of the Sea to Norway in this coming August starting from Copenhagen. I wonder if I can use google map to go around. We have a T-Mobile unlimited North America data plan. From past experience this data plan works well in most cities in UK and Southern Europe. Will it work in the North as well?

    Thanks,

    Jollyflute

I'd suggest you ask your provider about coverage. You will probably be connected but perhaps you will pay hefty charges for data if your plan doesn't include use in foreign countries. In any case, google maps allows you to download maps for offline use. It works very well.

  11. Apologies if this has already been answered but this is now a very long thread and I may have missed it. If we buy a bus ticket from Oceankaj can we pay with a credit card or must we use cash? I'm keen to avoid having to change too much cash before we go as, on this cruise, we will be using Euros, Danish Krone, Swedish Krone and Norwegian Krone.

    Thanks

There is a 'town shop' at the cruise terminal where you can buy bus tickets with your credit card. The bus driver only takes cash.

  12. Whilst this question is being answered could someone please confirm whether I can pay for a taxi with my credit card? I'm assuming you can but I thought I should check.

    Yes you can.

Also, I'm also assuming that I will be unlikely to be able to get a taxi from Nordhavn station after the buses stop in the evening?

It is probably easier to get one from Østerport station in the evening. But it wont cost that much more to take one from wherever you are coming from downtown, so it might not be worthwile to take the s-train and then get a taxi

  13. I guess not much happens in Copenhagen after 7pm!

Well a lot does happen, so I think it is a bit unfortunate that the busses to the cruise terminal stop running so early. All the other busses in the city operate until midnight or later (and all night friday and saturday). This is definitely something the municipality and the port should improve.

  14. The last bus 27 for Oceankaj leaves Østerport station at 7PM (6PM on weekends). The schedule for bus 25 is not up yet, as it will be coordinated with the cruise ship arrivals. But last year, it didn't operate in the evenings either.

So your options are most likely to take a taxi or walk from Nordhavn station which will take around 40 minutes. So that is a bit of a hike, but luckily the nights are light in late May.

You can check www.journeyplanner.dk for public transportation. Perhaps check in April to see how late bus 25 runs.
