  1. He’s 9. We are hoping the kids club works out. Disney was not at all accommodating (the whole experience was too much for him in general even tho the WDW trip he wasn’t). He tends to get really REALLY angry when he perceives wrong or cheating etc. and I’m pretty sure he’ll get bounced quickly. He loves playing in the pool so his toy boats will come with us.

Not going to torture him with too many MDR dinners. We’re on Celebrity and the buffet is awesome and a poolside dinner is more relaxing and our style.

  2. Thanks everyone. We’ve been doing social stories, watching videos on the ship itself and on how cruise ships work (he was afraid it would tip over). I’ll try the Special Needs Department again. They were incredibly unhelpful the last time we spoke. The woman I spoke to was rude and never followed up on an accommodation we asked for that she wasn’t sure they could provide (flexible age grouping for my teen - who is also autistic).

At minimum we’ll drive to Boston and show him the ship. Figured it was likely a long shot.

  3. Crazy random question: other than TAs, has anyone heard of guest passes to tour a ship while it’s in port?

We are fortunate to live close enough to Boston to take a ride in to see the Summit over July 4th. We’ll be on her 2 weeks later. My autistic son is super anxious about the trip. I doubt they ever allow this for safety reasons, but figured I’d ask. But at minimum we’ll take him in, park at my cousin’s and walk over so he can see the ship.

Not even his first cruise but then autism always keeps us hopping!

  4. Just wondering what other parents pack for toys and entertainment items for their trips?

We have 3 sea days (NJ to Bermuda) and my son doesn’t go anywhere without a backpack full of trains (thanks Autism!). Plus the iPad.

Obviously there’s so much to do that most kids don’t *need* much. And neither will he honestly. I was just curious.

  5. This is our first time traveling outside the US with our son since he started taking Concerta ER (methylphenidate). It only just occurred to me when picking a renewal script that this is a controlled substance and we might need letters & what not to carry it on our trip.

We are cruising from NJ to Bermuda in July.

Anyone with any experience with this? I’ve tried researching online but found very little about it.

  6. I believe I will return before you leave for your cruise...so I'll see if there's an age restriction. I'll post if no one else has after we return, after July 3.

Thank you! We leave July 22nd. We will make it work regardless. But it’d be nice to take the girls up there (even if it’s a long walk) and at minimum get us all showered at once.

  7. Wondering if someone on the late June/early July Summit to Bermuda cruises would scan some of the dailies? Trying to get an idea of what activities may be offered for the kids most especially.

And if anyone is in cabin 8166 (Aft corner family veranda) can tell me if the table on the veranda is large enough for a family of 5 to eat dinner at, awesome! I’ve seen photos of both large and small tables.

  8. Can you or speech pathologist make some social stories for them regarding embarkation, muster drill etc?

Yes, we have one from previous cruises that I’m updating for this ship. Celebrity actually has one on their site that’s pretty good. Our kids are pretty high functioning so we’ve also been watching YouTube videos about how ships float. We’ll have our weighted blanket and body sock with us too.

  9. We are sailing on the Summit in a corner aft family veranda.

In typical Celebrity fashion, when you call you five different answers.

DH and I have cruised on the Summit, as well as a few other lines, and this isn’t the kids first either. Just their first cruise on Celebrity.

I’m sure it will be ok. I’m just over cautious when we travel.

    Thanks!!! I’ll try emailing again.

  10. We are in a corner family veranda so had no choice but to book directly. But we’re 5 in the cabin so same cabin under 2 reservations. My parents booked their cabin directly online and we linked up with them, but I still can’t figure out how to book us all for dining.

Our son is the main concern. Our teenager is much easier going. He’s nervous about sailing (not his first time either) and may need time to get through security and then actually get ON the ship. People can be a little pushy boarding during that shuffling line. We’ve been successful when he has a little more time to process and comply with what we’re asking him.

For the muster drill it’s really going to depend where we have to go. If it’s somewhere like the theater where we can sit down we’ll be fine. We have no problem being way early and leaving last to avoid the crush of people. But if it’s on deck or in a place where we can’t sit, both my autistic kids are going to have issues with the standing and personal space issues. My son is likely to be flopping on the floor and anxious to get out of any crowded space where he can’t see around him.

  11. Has anyone had any success actually reaching the Special Needs Department? Every time I call the message says they are “in a meeting”.

When I call the main number for existing reservations, I get different answers about how to set up accommodations. Par for the course for any question! I’ve also gotten 3 different answers about how to book dining reservations because our party is split over 3 reservation number. [emoji849]

We’re looking for assistance boarding and getting through the muster drill, as well as how to bring on medically necessary nutritional supplements.

Anyone have any tips on how to get the real answers? Lol.

  12. I’m a WWer too. Started in Jan & just hit -23lbs. We sail in July. I was hoping for 25lbs total by July. Totally shocked this plan is working!

DH and I have been talking a lot about how to not undo my progress. My plan was predicated on my weeklies & fit points. Then I lost too quickly & my weeklies have gone way down!!

I think the new plan will work to our advantage here. Relying on 0fsp foods for the bulk of breakfast & lunch will be key. Eggs/omelette & fruit for breakfast. Salads with some protein for lunch. I am gluten free and I dislike the substitutes, so I’m not tempted by the pastry desserts & breads. Dinner, drinks & Cafe Al Bacio will be my downfall. Use the program. Eat until satisfied not full. Something decadent you must have, take 3 bites & move on. Keep busy. At our meetings we talk about taking a lap around the grocery store if you feel compelled to put something “dangerous” in your cart. Apply the same principle to the buffet. If you still want it when you get back to that station take 1/2 the serving size. I totally think you can enjoy the offerings without overdoing it. And water. Lots & lots of water!

Traveling with our kids. My 9yo son is up by 6am every day. I plan to take him to the walking track so the rest of the cabin can sleep. I’ll probably try to get to the gym or do some water jogging a couple of days before the pool gets busy.

    Good luck!!!

  13. Awesome! My son only drinks water & milk, so the package was lost on him anyway. My girls are teens, and can survive on the cafe drink selection & an allowance for soda/smoothies.

As long as I can fill up their water bottles somewhere other than my stateroom, we’re good to go! (Yes, we fill with the provided cups then fill the bottles. No need to spread germs [emoji854] )

  14. I can not for the life of me find this info here or on the Celebrity website.

What beverages are offered in the Ocean View Cafe besides coffee?

We will be on the Summit & looking at options for the kids. We got a price drop, but it meant dropping the kids beverage packages. I don’t think they can drink $1350 worth of soda & smoothies. ;) so it was worth it.
