  2. Congrats! You snagged a rare stateroom with a larger balcony. The Silhouette deck plans for deck 7 in the link below shows the location of your cabin on the "hump":

We have one of these cabins on an upcoming cruise on Equinox. The bulge on the ship in this area is to accommodate the elevators and stairs at this part of the ship. I'm still not sure myself why this means that the verandas in this area are larger, but they are for some reason.

Is it just the cabins in pink that are considered to be on the hump? or are the cabins in orange between the pink ones (7221-7239 and 7266-7284) considered the hump as well? do these orange ones have a larger balcony as well?

    Thanks

  3. On our Summit cruise in DEC we were coming back on the water taxi in St Marten and were talking to a crew member from the Viking ship in port next to ours. He told us the average age on board was 76, so that's one thing to keep in mind, that the crowd may be a bit older than on Celebrity.

  4. Another +1 for Joe's Stone Crab. We went end of Nov 2015 and were told a 2.5 hour wait, but it ended up about 1.75 hours. No problem, had a few drinks and apps at the bar. It was very good but also very pricey. We had a nice stroll down Ocean Ave also, just people watching.

  5. We've booked that cabin for May 2018. Is there a problem with wind noise if the balcony door is open while sailing?

You're not supposed to leave the balcony door open. Our neighbors had their balcony door open and we had an adjoining door and it was very noisy. I called housekeeping and they went and shut it. They weren't even in their room and the door was open over an hour before I called.

  6. The spa prices are pretty high in general, but they do run specials during the week and prices are cheaper on port days (from 8 to 1 pm I believe). They also had some early morning discounts. We were just on Summit and they had some first day specials- we booked a massage for a couple hours after we got on board and it was a great way to start off the vacation!

  7. What a fantastic review! I've spent hours reading every word and looking at every picture, I can't imagine how much time you spent writing it!!! Thank you! You also brought back some wonderful Rome memories! I remember seeing that same building and wondering what it is!

One thing I was hoping someone else would chime in on- someone commented that you could have the mattress swapped out, but I've never seen that mentioned anywhere else and quite frankly it seems like it would be a logistical nightmare. Can you imagine housekeeping carrying a mattress down those narrow hallways?!? I HAVE heard that you could get an eggshell topper put on the mattress though.

Now I'm off to research trips on the Silly! Thank you!

  8. We were also on the 12/10 sailing, and I agree with Snyniew's comments. We experienced great service onboard, especially in the MDR and from all the bars. There were plenty of waiters circulating around the pool, as well as mobile bars selling beer/water/soda. In fact, bar service was noticeably faster than our previous Silhouette cruise. There was no shortage of hand sanitizer, as employees were always present with it upon entering the buffet area on both sides. Additionally, we noticed hand sanitizer available at every other food venue, as well as each time you re-boarded the ship. The only real issue I had on this cruise was that the first few nights were a little rocky, and I had difficulty sleeping. Take this observation with a grain of salt though, I am extra sensitive to motion and I am sure others may not have even noticed it! This has nothing to do with Celebrity, as it was simply a result of some high winds.

We too received the questionnaire in our stateroom on the last night asking if we had experienced any gastrointestinal symptoms (fortunately we did not). The next morning on debarkation day I noticed an increased effort in cleaning. An employee came by and wiped the ledge behind where we were seated in the Oceanview Cafe no less than 3 times while we were eating breakfast.

I was on this cruise as well and had the same experience. No problem with service by the pool, plenty of sanitizer, no problem with the buffet food being cold but we were mostly eating the cooked to order stations (pasta, stir fry). No vomiting in the halls. None of the four of us experienced any illness. MDR food was good, but I was less than impressed with Tuscan.

The one thing that surprised me was when we asked our room attendant for more shampoo and conditioner because it wasn't restocked at all during the week, she said she would have to look for some because they were out. She brought shampoo but no conditioner.

  9. Nope, this was the cheesy photo with the ship in the background. She blatantly lied to us. As soon as we got on the ship, then the security photo was taken. I was pretty livid to start the trip off with that experience. These people won't take no for an answer.

That is pretty bad. We were just on Summit last week and had to take the security photo just after the check in process, even before boarding and the cheesy ship photo. I hate getting my picture taken so I was pretty adamant with the photogs that I wasn't interested and none of them pushed it.

  10. Just a quick update from onboard as we sail into Muscat, Oman right now. The staff and service has been wonderful! Everyone is very friendly and welcoming. Our servers in Luminae are the same ones we had on the Infinity back in June 2015, so that was a fun reunion. We haven't eaten anywhere besides Luminae yet, so I can't comment on any other venues. Our room steward is excellent! He takes great care of us. Also, our butler is the only female butler onboard, which she's very proud of. She's absolutely delightful and almost makes us feel guilty for not utilizing her more!

We are in a Sky Suite (6115) and it definitely needs some sprucing up in a dry dock. It's looking very dated now and there are signs of wear and tear, but our steward takes great care of it.

The fellow passengers are made up of a lot of people from the U.K. and Spain, as well as US, Canada and many other nationalities. It's a very diverse and friendly group. There are not that many kids onboard, but the ones that are are all friendly and well-behaved.

I had taken a break from Celebrity for awhile and had forgotten about the hard selling of services. It's a bit overhwhelming. On the first day during boarding, the photo team were trying to get us to take a pic and we said no. She said "Oh no, you have to. It's required for photo identification onboard", and she grabbed our belongings out of our hands and directed us to take the photo. So besides lying to us, she touched us without permission. These are little things that happen that make the Celebrity product less appealing.

I am trying to include pics here, but the upload is taking forever.

It's been a lot of fun so far and we are off to explore Muscat now.

Btw, don't know if anyone was refused boarding due to visa issues. I haven't heard anything.

    Michael

I believe it is required for you to take a photo, security looks at the pic as you board during port stops when they scan your sea pass card, but it's not the cheesy pic with the ship's wheel or in front the background with the ship. It's just a basic photo with no hats or sunglasses allowed. I'd be really pissed if it was otherwise.

  11. Just off the Summit and our MDR waiter and sommelier were fantastic, so we tipped them an extra $50 each (our waiter had the chef prepare a special dish for us one night). We tipped the assistant waiter and the room attendant $20 extra and I gave the dining room manager who assisted with the special dish $10, same for the server who brought me cocktails every night at dinner since I don't drink wine.
