So did Celebrity Reflection even though it was on a list of cancelled cruises released by Celebrity.

Do we know if they actually left with passengers aboard or have been taken off somewhere to be parked up for the duration. After all they will all have to be docked somewhere.

Seems odd that Celebrity would post its a cancelled sailing and then go. Who would show up to board her if they knew it was cancelled?

Sweet FA on U.K. & European sites!!

Canada and Australia nothing either. Im assuming they are playing catch up and it will be there and be the same.

Our Canadian governemnt (in the past hour)  has followed  suit like the US and said to avoid cruising but its not a travel advisory .....yet.......

  3. So if you are at the port and MSC denies you boarding due to their Covid19 policy and they arent offering refunds. What exactly would you claim under on your insurance if you dont have a Cancel for any reason?

At this point, I think waiting until late tonight or in the morning for confirmation from someone actually on the sailing will be more effective.

Its just been announced by the captain they are officialy docking at 1030 tonight according to someone on board now. They just posted on fb

It is because they have not been denied docking there (yet).  Otherwise, they would have slowed down and changed direction.  It is possible that they will receive a formal denial soon, in which case they will change direction.  Alternatively, they will dock, and then let the Mexican health authorities on board to assess the situation.  The Mexican authorities will either allow the ship to disembark passengers or have the ship leave.

That will be the key then!!! What will they wear to board? The hazmat suit......or the lounge suit.......watching with interest

I'm going to go ahead and say what I suspect others are thinking........  Is there something more to this story than we are being told? It seems absolutely absurd to restrict entry based on the MSC press release. If this is truly influenza A ,and it has been documented to be influenza A, and there are no other crew sick, and there are no other crew on-board who traveled through infected areas,; I can't see why Mexico would not have allowed them to dock.

Until I'm given proof otherwise, I'm choosing to believe the MSC press release; but that doesn't stop me from wondering.

    Time will tell for sure.......

So basically in response to your 2nd point BB, No!!!!

I feel sorry MSC its just crazy and got way, way out of hand.

So will Miami let them back whenever they are due??

@Mattnvick does anyone pay attention to cruise news law?

I'm still waiting for main stream media to report that Meraviglia has been refused entry into Cozumel. Lots and lots of off-shoot information sites are reporting, but I'd like to hear it from the big guys.

Re the first bit lets hope not.

Re the 2nd lets hope if they do, they can report accurate stuff and not just hype and hysteria.

But im not holding my breath...... 😌

While the story hasn't been picked up by mainstream media yet,  various travel forums, Reuters, and a few other sources are reporting that MSC Meraviglia has just been denied entry into Cozumel.

Yeah and the snap shot from below is exactly the kind of b/s fake news that causes the problems. They  weren't denied because of a pax with suspected corona. Grand Caymen denied them because MSC reported a crew member had influenza A. Jamaica just couldn't make up their mind so the captain departed after they left them kicking their heels for 4 hours and the day was basically shot. Its now become like a domino effect

A VERY, VERY good question. One that if I had joined for the cruise I would DEFINATELY want to know.

MSC, were you not honest with your passengers?

You do realise crew and passengers were subject to the same checks BEFORE THEY WERE ALLOWED TO BOARD. The crew member got a fever after they left Miami. MSC have been keeping pax informed as soon as they were kept waiting in Jamaica. Before that there was nothing for them to report. There is no dishonesty as you are trying to suggest.

Oh no.   What will happen to this ship when it returns to Miami?  Isn't that where it left from?  Will that whole ship be quarantined?  I'm really reconsidering my August cruise!  I have until May 1 to cancel - with a 15% penalty, but I'd rather lose money than be quarantined on a ship for who knows how long.   This is getting scary.

I sincerely doubt they will quarantine a ship for a crew member who had influenza A!!!  Heck if that happened then basically every corner of the globe would be shut down. There is so much mis reporting and its causing unnecessary panic. Panic is driving this more than anything else. Relax you will be fine.

Ok, my bad.  I thought south korea and phillipines was on the list aswell.

Not at the moment the countries i mentioned are the only one on the MSC website. Also they would have been subject to the same tests pax were given in Miami before boarding and obviously nothing showed up at that point. Had it done,  they wouldnt have been on board

If I was a passenger, I would go up to the captain, who is probably in hiding, and say "Buddy, you have a lot of splaining to do! "

I sincerely doubt the Capt is in hiding. And if the crew member hadnt been through or from Macau, China or Hong Kong and the ship left Sunday and he developed a high fever since they left what explaining would he have to do?

  14. 4 minutes ago, BermudaBound2014 said:

What is the test for influenza-A, and is it normal that the ship would carry this test?

to Mattvnick- there have been other instances where ships can’t comply with the Jones Act for reasons out of their control and they have been given immunity (not sure that is the right word). Ocean cay is Bahamian and would count as a foreign port if the ship can get in. If not Nassau/Freeport is another option and has a much more stable arrival rate.

    Thanks BB.

I also wondered if they actually tied up in Jamaica would that still count anyhow? Not their fault that pax couldnt get off

  15. Im sure people pax and crew quite often have flu on cruise ships but Corona really seems to have officials being ultra cautious. Have to wonder if this will snowball. Could have a huge impact on the travel industry.

Don't know enough about the rules but if (worst case scenario the other islands you were due to visit  do the same) don't you have to visit one foreign port. Or would Ocean Cay count as Bahmian. If the wind screwed that (lets sincerely hope not) Im not sure what happens.

Someone with full knowledge please chime in

  16. Any guests holding a Chinese, Hong Kong, or Macau passport, regardless of when they were there last, will not be allowed to board our ships

So if i was from Hong Kong originally but living in the US and hadnt been back there or to any of the other countries mentioned  for the sake of argument lets  say 9 years i wouldn't be able to board any Royal Ship at this time?

I sincerely hope for any one in that situation they are giving a full refund and not just a fcc.

  17.

......."I have a friend that is sailing on this ship today and she got no such notification.  Her parents were on the ship that just got into Bayonne and they are safely on their ride back to NJ.  She did get notified that they should show up later because they are doing extra sanitizing of the ship"

Things changing here very quickly. Really is an unfolding situation. What happens to people on their way to the port. Are they on their own to find accommodation for the night?

I couldn't last January.  I didn't think the port had wifi.  Even if I could access it in the building, I'd need to be able to let the driver know where to pick us up and I wouldn't have a clue about where that would be.  Once outside, there's no wifi and I would need it to keep in touch with the driver.

I just think getting a taxi would be easier for us and need to know how much it would cost.

Do they take credit cards?  I'm running low on dollars and need to know if I have to get some extra in the casino today.

They definitely do as. that's what we used to connect with uber last time  from just outside.

However for a regular taxi on doing some internet  research it says $27. Don't know about the use of c.c. Sorry. Most cab firms these days though do.

Anyone have any idea of how much a taxi would cost from Miami port to the airport?  I can't use Uber or Lyft as I won't have internet.  I used my own roaming data last January for Uber and it cost me more than a taxi fare would have. 🙄

Bea cant you use the PoM Wi-Fi to call uber?

That sounds to me an incredible win....the Caribbean is awash with such islands, and I never understood the fuss across the various threads on Ocean Cay!

Not usually given that much OBC or FCC for a missed port which is what this is. MSC know they have dropped the ball on this and there are going to be a lot of disappointed people. 2 years now behind schedule and still they cant get it open on the new date??! 😏

The captain has just announced that Ocean Caye has been replaced with Ocho Rios for "operational" reasons.  We're being given $100 OBC per cabin and a 20% discount off a future cruise

Oh noooooo. Not good. So many people looking forward to this date. FB cruisers were so excited😞😞😞😞😞
