  1. Info here: http://www.royalcaribbean.com/statichtmlpage.do?pagename=brochure_weddings

Be sure you are sitting down when you review the prices.

Our daughter got married on Liberty last year. The shipboard service was outstanding. All of the shipboard crew involved with the wedding did everything possible to make the event perfect.

However, dealing with the shoreside contractor (Royal Romance) for the pre-wedding planning was an excercise in frustration. Don't expect return calls or email responses to be prompt. Expect to spend lots of time on the phone asking for supervisors, etc. Expect lack of communication between the shoreside contractor and the shipboard crew.

Hi Bob - out of curiosity, who performs the marriage? Always assumed the captain does, but maybe I've watched too much tv haha.

  2. And it comes with enough welcome points that we were able to use it for 3 nights accommodations And we also get a free nights stay annually. That free night that we are redeeming for a $200-$250 US hotel room makes paying the $120 CDN annual fee worthwhile. Both DW and I have the card.

Hmm that does sound nice. I'm going to have to look into that one. Is it canadian based?

  3. Stretching of truth is par for the course in advertising and marketing for many companies - small and large. Nothing that unusual about this one from RCI. All of what they is say true of the WiFi system itself - the issue is usability with lots of users. Land based internet companies make similar claims (especially against competitors) which may not be quite true in real life. And they have an even higher standard to adhere to since they advertise download speeds - VOOM never claims any.

I see your point. Up here a few years ago there was a pretty big battle by a major Telcom who used the term "canadas most reliable network" and "Canada's fastest network" and our competition bureau. Stretching of truth is very regulated up here, anyways, it's just a cruise so nothing to lose sleep over.

  4. The 1.32 I think is referring to what they are using to convert US pricing for restaurants, Internet and drink packages. That rate has in the past always been different that the rate that you will get quoted for buying OBC. The last report I saw for OBC was $1.40

Oh wow. Didn't know that. Interesting! I have an amazon visa that is pegged to visas daily rate, ends up lower than banks most often than not.

  5. Another RC web page that has not been kept up to date.

Not entirely sure what the laws are in the US, I do know from a Canadian law point of view this would definitely not pass the sniff test on advertising laws up here. Advertising is my career, things like this burn me up inside, I'd be in front of the courts so fast if I ever tried this kind of stuff in my job.

  6. Who did you speak to? Was it an RCI phone rep? Because they are notorious for being wrong. I guess I'll find out whether it's true or not when I board on Nov 19th. Would be nice if it's true...but I'm not holding out much hope.

It was some kind of agent from rci, they called me about my booking for January, so I asked. Maybe she's wrong but she seemed to have a lot of details about the scope. Anyways, hope you can make a post when you sail with the info firsthand.

  7. Hope they had the materials and time to get to the staterooms for a refresh. I can do without the added restaurants and some of the other stuff. Really was hoping for room refreshes.

Although I can't be upset about this, a lot of their dock workers were no doubt affected by the hurricane. Hopefully this gives them some nice overtime pay to help.

  8. Sorry to scare you! If you don't make it on by muster drill they'll have you do it one on one or with a small group when you board. 3 is cutting it close, especially in January if you're coming from a snowy place, or hopping on a connection that is coming from a snowy place, but barring bad weather you should be fine. The port is like 10 or 15 minutes from the airport; not far at all.

Were flying direct from Toronto, surprisingly doesn't get too much snow, the only alternative we had was paying a thousand more for the day before with 2 connections lol I'm feeling okay with the risk, will be happier once on board though.

  9. And on the adventure, boarding goes from 11am til 5pm, so priority boarding doesn't do much for you unless you insist on boarding during the half hour that is the busiest; otherwise the crowds are small because there's such a big window for boarding.

Also, on the adventure there's usually only one day at sea, and all other days the pool is virtually abandoned during the day. Always room for those who choose to stay on the ship or come back early.

The adventure is probably the ship that is least worth it to buy suites for the perks, the real value for people should be in the size of the room, otherwise it's a waste of money.

Boarding only goes until 5pm when she usually sails at 8pm?

  10. Forgive me if this has already been hashed to death, can't seem to find this specific question.

Since the changes in the drink packages did the price of individual drinks on board (ie purchase price without package) change? Still around $12 for a cocktail?

    Thanks.

  11. Hello everyone,

I was just on Instagram and started looking at some recent Harmony of the Seas photos. I noticed a few of the #nofilter photos showed yellow/green emissions from Harmony's stacks. I know that the stacks themselves are wider to accommodate scrubbers, but can any environmental experts or insiders explain why the emissions look more harmful (yellow/green vs. gray) than on other ships? I've included a few photos below as examples.

Ships usually run on a higher level of sulphur diesel. That being said I agree that it may just be the engines being broken in or perhaps a bit of optical illusion from the sun.

Ships like this consume massive amounts of fuel, proportionately though for the amount of passengers it's not horrible per say. But as much as I love cruising, it definitely isn't the most environmentally friendly adventure out there.
