I've cruised mostly on Celebrity in the past. They usually tell passengers that they must be back on board one hour before leaving a port.  I noticed that NCL, specifically the Prima, says we must be back aboard two hours before leaving a port.
How strict is NCL about this?  If I get back to the ship one hour before the ship is due to leave, will that be a problem for me? Of do they say that just to make sure the last minute people get back in time?

The two hours you are referring to is only for boarding on embarkation day at the home port.

This is the OP of the thread. I find it amazing that people are so mundanely satisfied with poor service. Horrible embarkation, passengers passing out from heat in the 2.5 hours in the sun with no water stations provided: no problem. Slow and lackluster service; no problem. Long lines for supposed reservation times: no problem. Poor NCL takes my money and pretends they are doing everything they can to improve the situation but don't, no problem. If you ain't Haven class, you ain't nobody; no problem. If you spent a couple of thousand dollars on anything else that had so many problems, you would be raising hell about it. But folks seem all too ready to forgive a cruise line for a shoddy product. And I am getting tired of being, "classed". From airlines and their "preferred" classes of boarding the plane to seats on the transfer busses. If you do not prefer Salsa dancing and rap music, don't bother to sit out by the pool.  And please: Will passengers begin to show some courtesy and consideration? From the electric scooter drivers who seem to think that the corridors and table seatings were created just for them and their beeping little horns to the pushy people cutting into the buffet lines to the drunks in the hot tubs and the 80 year old men trying to look like Hulk Hogan in their Speedos and muscle shirts to the elderly women wearing thong bathing suits to the "studs" wearing cowboy hats who have never set foot on a farm or ranch. No, you don't look cute; you look silly and out of place. Somewhat like Walmart on Friday night. From now on I am going to rent a nice cabin in a remote state park and relax on my own terms and my own schedule. Goodbye cruising.

Epic isn't the best representation of NCL. It's the only ship like it for a reason. As many as 3 were planned but after the first one....no more.

There were no more after the first one due to a contract dispute with the shipbuilders.

Folks - OP is in Arizona.  Cruise is out of Louisiana.

I was just looking at that myself.   Google Maps says it's almost 1600 miles, about a 23 hour drive.  For me the last thing I would want to do after a nice relaxing cruise would be to get in a cramped vehicle and drive for a couple of days.

So, a quick question about NCL's policy regarding bringing food on board in US ports.

On the repositioning cruise, when we stop in LA or San Francisco or Astoria and I go out into town and buy a couple of boxes of soft baked cookies, can I bring them back on board with me?

    NCL's Frequently Asked Questions says......

"Unsealed food items will not be allowed onboard."

I don't know how strict the cookie police are.

There will be X-Ray machines you have to put your bags through, similar to airport security. You will have to pass through it in the terminal before you board the ship. It will be the same at each port if you get off the ship; when you get back, there are X-Ray machines you must put your bags through when you reboard.

That's not what is being asked.  He's looking for the bag drop off area so he doesn't have to carry his bag around while waiting for rooms to be ready.  🙂

FWIW....my rules of flying in the day of the cruise....reason for doing so doesn't matter.

    A) Flight gets you to the pier at least 3 hours before all aboard

    B) It's a direct flight (less chance of delay via the connecting flight/airport

    C) There are more than one airport within an hour of the pier (where you can fly into if your original flight is delayed/cancelled.  You open up options to catch another flight.

    D) There are other outbound (later) flights you can take to get you to the pier (See A) if your origination flight is canceled

    E) You have all carry ons so luggage can not get delayed or lost...also precludes having to wast time at baggage claim

    F) You've pre-arranged a ride to the pier.  If they don't show up or are late, there's always UBER/Lyft/Taxi

    G) Insurance.  It won't get you to the pier on time if something goes sideways, but it will lessen the sting

Sometimes flying in the day of is just inevitable.  Done it before.  But, even with my careful planning, I had the destination airport go on lockdown with a bomb scare and had to sit on the tarmac for 90 minutes before we go to the "all clear".  Still made it on time.

Excuse the nit-picking here but "It's a direct flight"...I think you meant non-stop.  Direct flights can have stops but you just don't get off the plane.

Hi, in November we are flying into Miami airport a couple of days prior to our cruise out of Port Everglades.

We are looking for our best option to get from MIA to the Riverside Hotel in Fort Lauderdale.

    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Thanks!

    Welcome.
