  1. All this makes sense, but why do you suppose they're having so much trouble selling them? Carnival has been successfully selling similar itineraries for years, and now Princess prices are less then Carnival for the same cruise! I love these short Getaways; they're fun, inexpensive, and a great "intro to cruising" for those who've never sailed before. Santa Barbara, San Diego and Catalina are wonderful ports, and I've found a Brazilian steakhouse in Ensenada that makes me look forward to this port every time we're there. Another friend had an amazing zipline experience in Ensenada. What am I not getting?? Why is this such a tough sell? Mind you, I'm not a sun or hot weather enthusiast...

Kruzin Karen - The cruise lines (on the west coast) have always had a problem attracting west coast passengers. Many passengers wanted Celebrity to also keep a ship out west, but the overall demand is generally poor. They then have to sell out the ship for nothing just to book the cabins. You also have the current situation in Mexico and the bad press in general; cruise lines are hesitant to go there and have cancelled Mexican ports. We live in S. FL and we have many passengers come from the west coast to take cruises here.

Personally, we even avoid the Western Caribbean (Cozumel, Cancun, Jamaica, etc..) cruises. We like the Eastern and Southern, as the islands tend to be much more prosperous and safer.

    Happy Sailing..:)

  2. You are all too funny... I remember years ago when RCCL and Celebrity would line you up outside by the lifeboat and called the cabin numbers. If you were not there they sent someone out to hunt you down. On Princess, we usually end up in the theater muster station and take a nice little nap. It is good they scan the ship cards - much more efficient..

It is very important and people do need to take muster a bit more seriously - ask the people on the Costa Concordia...

  3. Hello everyone... We are also booked for the June cruise to the Black Sea on the Emerald and we too were a bit disappointed not to go to Yalta and Odessa (as of now). It looks like Princess replaced those stops with Nessebar, Bulgaria and a port in Romania. Anyone familiar with those ports and also, Volos Greece, Valetta, Malta??? We like that it is mostly all new to us.

We are spending 5 days in Athens pre-cruise. We really liked Athens on the last trip, but it was too short. The ship also goes back to Mykonos and 2 days in Istanbul. We love the Eastern Med.

    Happy sailing everyone...:)

  4. First time on Princess and looking forward to it. 3 in a row with the mouse was fun, but looking for more adult situated entertainment.

Mattscott - So glad you could join us. We generally go between Celebrity and Princess, as they are pretty close. This is about the best at this price point. I am sure you both will enjoy it. Jerry and I both teach, so we probably would not go on Disney. Usually, we hang out at the "Adult Only" pool. :)

I believe you are up in the Orlando area. We are in Boynton Beach in Palm Beach County in S. FL. We get up there every now and then, as Jerry has family in the Orlando area.

We also have a thread on the regular "Roll Call." Please come join us there too.

Take care. We look forward to meeting you both.

  5. Just booked Regal Princess for DH's and my annual March cruise. We will be sailing with my mom and one of her friends but we like to break away a few nights of the trip for socializing with other LGBT family. Anyone else on board? This is our first time sailing with Princess and we're quite excited! :D

Bostonjetset - We are on the cruise the following week (22nd). You will have a great time. We usually travel on Princess or Celebrity. We are pleased with food and service. As you know, this is a new ship, so it takes 6-12 months to get the bugs out and having the staff gel together. We are looking forward to the cruise too. Have a great vacation.:)

  6. Hello everyone!!!

Never too early to make reservations for Spring Break... My Partner Jerry and I love to have something to look forward to after a long cold winter in Palm Beach County, FL  :D...

We are avid cruisers (my husbands' 29th and my 28th cruise) and enjoy meeting other couples or singles aboard ship.

We look forward to meeting others and enjoying another great time at sea...

    See you all soon...:)

  7. It is the best ROI there is if you cruise 2 times a year ..

we're sailing away - I agree with you. Though the stock has not done much as of late - I own the shares for a few years and I am still not making anything on it - but the OBC eases the pain. :p We usually use it a couple times of year. We just got our $250 placed on our account for an upcoming 14 day cruise. It was on the cruise personalizer within a day after faxing them the information. They were great. We also bought the FCC and we get another $100PP and the TA is giving us another $450. It is great starting out with $900 OBC... :)

Hope everyone enjoys their next cruise...

  8. I, also, usually book more extensive trips - Europe, Alaska, etc. But, this year, we decided on a part we could drive to (even though it will still be a haul to get there!)

I'm really looking forward to the Caribbean, though, as I haven't been on a Caribbean cruise in about 10 years. It'll be a nice change of pace.

We look forward to seeing you and Jerry on board. Hope we have some more "family" on this cruise as well. ;)

We have been to also been to Alaska - but I like warm weather cruises better. The airfare to Europe was crazy and we have a few family obligations this summer too. This cruise fit our schedule. We were just in the Caribbean in March, as the port is only 30 minutes from our home and makes these cruises easy to do.

Many times we have met other "family" onboard... We shall see...

    See you soon...

  9. Hi, Neil! My partner, Susie, and I are on this cruise as well. We are very jealous that you are doing the back to back. We have been thinking about staying on for the second week, but I think that we have decided to travel another time later in the year.

I am a teacher - one more week! - and Susie works for a major arts festival. Summer is definitely our down time, and we are looking forward to relaxing! Look forward to meeting you and Jerry!

    Take care, Mary

sc cruisers -Mary and Susie - Glad to meet you. Jerry and I also teach. He does subbing as his "retirement job" and I am still teaching full-time. We sound like we are all ready for summer vacation. :) We usually do more extensive trips over the summer, but the airfares have been crazy and we have some family obligations this summer.

It should be a lot of fun on the cruise and we look forward to meeting you both.

Have a great Memorial Day weekend..

  10. Eclipse Jan 2015:

    14 night cruise:

Inside seems to be cheap enough but these prices are higher than this year and quite a bit higher than Constellation two years ago.

Mr & Mrs X - I would wait a while -- especially since it is after New Years and Christmas. Those prices should go down. Good luck.

  11. We agree with you !! You should take this and start a new thread !

    luvstosail

    Boston Ma

I agree. We had to cancel our med cruise for this October because of plane ticket prices :( The plane ticket is only $100 less! No way will we spend almost as much on air as our 13 day cruise :(

Meanwhile, we will continue trying to build skymiles. Maybe we will make it back to Europe in 2015.

luvstosail and CruisingGatorGirl - We are just taking wait and see attitude. We have gone to Europe over the past few summers; if we can't go, so be it. I am a pretty good judge of the bookings on the ships and I don't think people are going to pay $1,800 PP for air on a $1,000 PP cruise. The bookings, based on where the cabins are located -- there are way too many good cabins available on many sailings.

We live in S. FL - we can always catch a ship to the Caribbean for a vacation. I believe we will see some movement on airfares shortly. Let's see who can hold out the longest... the airlines/cruise lines or me -- Ha!!! :p

  12. We have been trying to book a cruise to Europe for this summer and the airfares are crazy. That is a good reason why the cruise prices are low - they can't fill the ships.

We are waiting and if it happens - it happen. We flew from MIA (direct) to Rome last summer and returned from Venice to MIA for $878 RT PP. This year the fares are between $1,600 - $1,800PP RT. We are not going to book a $1,000 PP cruise and spend $2,000 PP on the air fare and baggage.

The cruise lines need to work with the air lines or they will have empty ships and empty planes.

    We will wait and see.

    Happy cruising. :)

  13. Can. Not. Wait.

nytenor - We are ready to go.... I know you both are with all of that weather this winter...

Hi Guys....my friends and I will be sailing in the Summit on the 22nd....we are looking forward to a great vacation. Hope to meet you on board.

Michael32835 - So glad you can join us. I see you are from FL too. What part? Have you joined the regular roll call, as we are having a Sail Away party at the Mast Bar at 4:30PM. We will be wearing beads and leis to recognize each other. There are about 70 people coming. We hope you can make it... It is usually a lot of fun... The regular roll call has a lot of great information and I am the "keeper" of the listing of CC members...

Look forward to meeting you both...:)

  14. We took a ship excursion which ferried us to an area to board the bus and the bus took us on our excursion - no going up hill for us. We had a very nice excursion to the two main areas in Santorini and they left us in town on the way back and we took the cable car down to the tender - no muss; no fuss; no donkey mess...:) It was the best suggestion someone gave to us...

We got back to the ferry mid-afternoon 2:00PM - to avoid any line - we went right on... If you are going to Ephesus - do the excursion to Ephesus and the Virgin Mary house. It was one of the highlights of the trip. Make sure you are in shape with good walking shoes/sneakers -as it is A LOT of walking (the entire cruise). We also did the Acropolis in Athens 200 steps up... We were on the Ruby Princess last June. Check out my full review under Neilrr...

Good luck; have a great time...:)

  15. mrsmedoes - I was just looking for the same thing. I like to see the Summit menus for the Caribbean to book the specialty restaurant on the worst night in the MDR...:) I was looking to do a search, but it is not showing at the present time. I am hoping CC members can come to the rescue...:p

Also, we assume the formal nights are Sunday and Thursday - are we correct??? Thank you for your assistance.

  16. We are soooooo happy that it is Havensight, as Crown Bay is Industrial and you have to use a cab to get downtown for shopping. Havensight is much more centrally located and you can easily do shopping after an excursion or going back to the ship for lunch... Most of the merchants do not want to open a third store; that is why Crown Bay has very few shops.
