  1. Howdy @BeckyL80 and welcome to Cruise Critic from a fellow Texan! Here are a few oldie but goodie Cruise Critic articles that may contain something helpful for you: 15 First Time Cruise Tips What to Expect on a Cruise: Cruise Rooms Family Cabins on a Cruise: What to Expect Cruise Ship Rooms: What You Need to Know About Choosing Your Cabin A Guide to Cruise Ship Spa Accommodations Best Family-Friendly Cruise Ship Cabins (Since no small children are in your party, just skip over those parts in the articles.) And since you are a first-time cruiser, I feel it is best for you to find a travel agent that specializes in cruises. They will be so very helpful with your quest to find the best fit for you and the family regarding line, ship, stateroom or suite, itinerary, etc. Per the Guidelines we all agreed to follow when registering for our free Cruise Critic memberships, none of us can recommend or even hint a TA name as well as any other source or venue for cruise purchase. Hopefully another Cruise Critic article will be helpful! Finding a Cruise Travel Agent The Cruise Critic website and message boards are both great resources for new as well as experienced cruisers, and we are glad you found us! Please feel free to browse the Cruise Critic Community categories list for all the various message board forums. I suggest you Bookmark the page or put it in your Favorites for easy access in the future. Please read a few threads in the various forums to get a feel for what each forum is about. Make sure you read any pinned threads (aka Stickies) on the top of the first page of threads in most forums. You will find very important instructions or information there. I sincerely hope this information will be helpful to someone new to posting on our message boards. We are so very glad to have you aboard Cruise Critic! Happy sails, Host Kat
  2. Hello @Sargam and thank you for your new thread! However, it was posted on an incorrect forum. It was off topic there. To help you out I have moved your new thread to the Ports of Call - Alaska forum where it will be on topic. The majority of your fellow Cruise Critic members that have taken the White Pass train frequent this forum and provide feedback here. Browse through the thread titles on this forum looking for threads of interest. You will probably find your fellow Cruise Critic members have already posted questions and received answers that may be of interest to you. The Cruise Critic website and message boards are both great resources for new as well as experienced cruisers and we are so glad you have posted! Please feel free to browse the Cruise Critic Community categories list of the various forums. I suggest you Bookmark the page or put it in your Favorites for easy access in the future. Please read a few threads in the different forums to get a feel for what each forum is about. Make sure you read any pinned threads (aka Stickies) on the top of the first page of threads in most forums. You will find very important instructions or information there. Please remember the following portion from the Guidelines we all agreed to follow when registering for our free Cruise Critic memberships: Browse Before You Post Browse a topic first to see if your question has already been asked or answered by someone else. Also, many of the major cruise lines forums have a FAQ (Frequently Asked Question) topic that has been created by our members. Give that a try first. Browsing is your #1 best resource! Please post your messages in an appropriate topic so that you'll receive the best possible response. It is very time consuming to move misplaced messages that are in the wrong topics. Anytime you need to start a new thread on a forum, first make sure you are in the correct forum for your topic. Word your new thread title in a way to help the members know exactly the information you seek. This greatly helps the members browsing through the thread titles and if they know the information, they will reply to you. Also, it is best to limit each inquiry to only one topic such as one cruise line, one ship, one port of call, etc. and of course, on the correct forum where it will be on topic. You will get more replies that way. Be sure to mention your cruise line, ship, port or sail date in your inquiry if that sort of information will help your fellow Cruise Critic members help you with replies. To find your fellow Cruise Critic members sailing with you on your cruise, you need to post on the specific Cruise Critic Roll Call thread for your cruise line, ship and sail date. Please read What is a Roll Call? Everything you Need to Know and How To: Create A New Roll Call. For more information about our famous Roll Calls, please read the Roll Calls and Our Policy Regarding Facebook and Roll Calls sections in the Guidelines. We also have the following oldie but goodie Cruise Critic article you might enjoy: 8 Reasons to Join a Cruise Critic Roll Call The specific Roll Call thread for your cruise is the ONLY place on the Cruise Critic message boards where you and your fellow Roll Call thread members are allowed to post personal ads about sharing private tours, excursions or transportation with each other to save money. There is a "captive audience" there since you are all sailing together! Your fellow Roll Call thread members may have important information posted in your Roll Call thread. Especially those that may have sailed your line, ship or itinerary before. Also, they may have already posted share requests that may interest you. Roll Calls are for people to get to know one another before their cruise. Therefore, there will be all kinds of discussion! Roll Calls belong to everyone on the Roll Call thread. There is no designated leader or owner. It does not matter who started the thread. If you ever need technical help in regard to using the Cruise Critic message board software, go to the Need Help Using the Forums? Check Here! forum. You will see a large amount of "How to..." pinned threads toward the top of the forum's first page. Also, browse through the threads in the forum looking for threads of interest. Again, you will probably find your fellow Cruise Critic members have already posted questions and received answers that may be of interest to you. So sorry this is so long, but I sincerely hope this information will be helpful to someone new to posting on our message boards. We are so very glad to have you aboard Cruise Critic! 7. @2funlovin At first, a new thread you have started in the list of threads on a forum will not be bold to you. This is because you just read the thread when you posted it. All the other members browsing a forum see titles in bold if they have not read any of the threads previously. Once they read a thread, the title will not be bold for them too. When a new reply is posted in the thread, the thread title will then be bold for you as well as any other member that has read the thread previously. Since you have used the Follow feature on this thread, you should have received notifications of the new replies here. That way you do not have to go trying to find a thread you started just to see if the title is bold again because it has a new reply or replies. You just go directly to your thread by clicking the notification. If you need more information about the Follow feature on threads and forums, please click here: How to: Follow Topics & Forums (Subscribed Threads/Forums Info) You can adjust your email and notification settings for threads and forums you are Following. Please click here: How To: Change Email Settings/Unsubscribe: Notification Settings Hope this additional information will be helpful! Happy sails, Host Kat
  8. @ted burke Any good travel agent or agency specializing in cruises can form group cruises or may already have some on their books. They will be happy to book "outsiders" into a group. I have been an "outsider" in a group before. Or you can do it yourself! Perhaps the following oldie but goody (written October 10, 2019 but updated January 4, 2024) Cruise Critic article will have helpful information: How to Plan a Group Cruise I suggest you use the Follow feature on any new threads you start or any other threads such as this one where you are interested in the new replies. That way you will not have to go looking to see if there are new posts because they will come looking for you as notifications.
