  1. As some have said, maybe you should look at a more luxurious cruise line if things like this are that important to you. You just might not be Royal Caribbean's target demographic anymore. It's obvious with their new ships and how they have made changes to the cruise experience, that they are no longer shooting for the nostalgia of yesteryear and the "golden age" of cruising.

  2. I was on Liberty in November of last year. Due to the fact that I was in an arm sling and just had major shoulder surgery 9 days prior to sailing I could not go on these big carnival Slides. But boy did I want too. I am a kid at heart and having that area in November where there are mainly just adults, without having hardly any kids to cut in line, is a great experience. But unfortunately, all I could do is watch the other kid at heart adults, enjoy themselves. Maybe I just need to book that cruise again so I can experience these big awful looking slides;) at least once.

This kid at heart adult spends half his cruise on the flowrider. Imagine how much I have to suffer looking at those things and occasionally riding them? I'll be back on Liberty in less than 2 months. Maybe I need to rethink my trip now.....

  3. Thanks, guys.

I also use my card for all purchases in life--I'm talking $1 at Dunks to half of my husband's vehicle this year. I make on average about $25-$50 a month just from charging everything into my card. We sweep it every month so that there are no interest charges. BUT it does take discipline and knowing how much you can spend (to me, that is exactly like cash).

@waterlegs, if you're interested, you could have a card to use on your DH's account. That's what we do to maximize points. I have the CC account and he has a card in his name. Both of our checking accounts are on the pay accounts for the card so that we pay for our own charges. May sound confusing at first, but it becomes second nature.

Sorry so off topic, but I love to explain to people how much money they could be making with zero extra work, AS LONG as they are disciplined enough not to incur ANY monthly charges.

I guess that's the crux of the argument. I don't use credit cards as credit cards. I just use them for the free rewards and then pay them off fully every month. But if your not disciplined enough to do that, I know that can get you into trouble.

  4. Interesting read. I remember my first Flowrider cruise was in 2006 on Freedom, which as we all know had the first one. By the time I boarded, Freedom was 2 years old and Liberty had also come out. Royal hasn't released a new ship without one since have they? We also know that they have added them to existing Voyager class ships. I guess it adds to the things that distinguish their ships from others. The concept was pretty new still when I was on Freedom and I waited till the final sea day to try it after seeing a lot of walking wounded that week. I've done the boogy boarding only on Freedom and Allure. Glad I did it, I get a lot of response for my flowrider pics on Facebook, a lot of people are still amazed you can do something like that at sea.

We switched to Royal specifically for the flowrider and I know a bunch of others who go Royal for that same reason as well. So it has definitely helped get people to cruise Royal. I love it, spend half my cruise there, so does the wife.

  5. We never prepay but then again we don't really budget or pay much attention to our final bill for the cruise account. It's all setup on the same card for auto pay. I can see how others would like to have it prepaid though. It won't make a difference in your cruise experience, just more a personal choice and what you are comfortable with.

  6. Hey y'all,

I see many people on here ask this question, but I haven't seen a definitive answer... unless I missed it.

It will be my first time on RCCL, and I'm very excited... currently I'm in a JS on deck 10, about 4-5 doors down from the RS. There have been a few openings for JS on deck 9 as of today, should I switch? Will there be a good deal of noise if I stay on deck 10?? Anyone have any experience?

Also, what is your absolute favorite thing to do on the ship? And what is something that can be skipped?

Thank you in advance for your assistance!

Personally never had any issues staying on deck 10 and noise but then we are never in the cabin during times where it would be an issue. We actually try to stay as close to the top and rear of the ship as possible because we spend a ton of time at the flowrider.

  7. Even cruiselines that require everyone in the cabin to buy packages would not ever require a toddler to gave a drink/soda pkg.

This post coming from you is very amusing. I thought rules were meant to be followed? Aren't we supposed to just follow it? And Bob's right, cruise rules state anyone consuming a beverage must have their own package there's no disclaimer saying anyone under a certain age is exempt.

Lastly I'm not saying you need to do this James, you'll be fine giving him some of yours. No one will say anything on the cruise.

  8. No takers.... LOL

I bet more than half the prohibition on shorts in MDR (dinner) can't respond as it would show a weakened stance.

Come on, step up and tell the real truth.

Or they probably bring their own water or soda on board, when rules clearly state you are not supposed to. Just like the shorts rule, it's not enforced. Sometimes rules are there just so the cruise lines have fall back options in case they need them. Not necessarily that they want to truly enforce them.

  9. Thank you....not sure how only one person having the drink package would work....does that mean there is a time limit....like only being able to have 1 drink an hour so that you are not able to get 2 drinks within a short period of time

I believe you have to wait 15 minutes between each drink.

  10. We have been on Carnival's Breeze twice and liked it but are trying the LIberty of the Seas this summer. WE have 7 people (my parents, hubby, kids ages 14, 12, and (0 ---how does this ship compare? Food? Kids programs? Any information is greatly appreciated!

I've been on both ships and here are my thoughts:

The Liberty is a bigger ship and you can feel the difference. It's about 20% larger.

The food on carnival is better, especially in the specialty restaraunts.

The kids programs are comparable and are both very good.

They both have slides and good athletics area but liberty has a flowrider. Depending on the age of your kids, it can be a huge plus for the kids or you, if you're adventurous.

Overall, both are great ships and I believe you will really like the Liberty, it's a fun ship.

  11. I was on it February 2015, and yes it was very rough in the middle, the two pumps made a spot where I constantly stuck to the trampoline. I struggled the whole cruise, but the young kid who was really good didn't seem to be bothered. So, I think it is sort of like snow skiing some days you are in the Rockies (Anthem) and some days you are in Vermont, Liberty, they both help you get better but in completely different ways.:D

    JC

I was on twice last year, May and September. It doesn't stop me from riding, just makes it a little harder to do some tricks is all.

  12. Until it's amended it is what it is.... follow it!

I actually do dress pretty nicely for dinner but I get a kick out of people like you that let what other people wear to dinner affect their cruise. And what you think, say or want means absolutely nothing to me, especially after how you've treated others in this thread. My guess is there's some rule somewhere you don't follow which just makes this little rant of yours that much more amusing.

  13. QUOTE=ChiMimi69;52256933]I never have or will take advice from anyone who thinks that they are superior to anyone else. And worse still...someone who treats others which such disrespect for merely having an opinion that doesn't mirror their own. I'll say no more because then...I'd be just like you. I will say this though...thank you VERY much for making my decision that much easier. I will dress my boys in shorts ALL week for dinner and laugh myself silly thinking about you. It's going to be a great trip! I can't wait! :D

Thank you SO much to ALL who understand my point, I appreciate the solidarity!!! :D:D:D]

Everyone on this thread can see your point. There is a dress code that sounds silly to you, however it is a dress code and part of the recommended dress for using the MDR at dinner.

Plenty of younger children can look fine in shorts, but teens??? Maybe less so, for certain functions and as far as this post goes for other reasons.

Teens are at an age where they are soaking up everything that is done around them, like manners and social graces. It is also the age where they are learning the value of peer consideration which involves obedience to certain policies and procedures dealing with social interaction that show respect to their peers and consideration for other's feelings.

Teaching our children to be well mannered, civil and courteous isn't done by arguing the logic of a rule that is in place and has been in place long before beginning a philosophical discussion of its legitimacy or long before plunking down a few thousand dollars on a cruise where that very rule is and has been clearly stated.

After the many cruises you have been on with your children you must be well aware of the dress code and have quite clearly decided that you will do what you want and laugh yourself silly at those with differing opinions.

A ten second search on DRESS CODES would show that a few million pounds of popcorn have been devoured while the subject still remains moot. After years and years of contentious debate the subject boils down to simple rules and regulations and whether a person wants to follow or ignore them. Like questioning if smuggling booze, chair hogging or any number of other gentle shoves on the envelope of propriety are really so terrible. NO they are not but they are still against the well known and publicized cruise policies.

I find it hard to imagine that children living in Chicago don't have access to a few pairs of long pants. How do they dress to see a movie, go to diner, go to school, go to church, go to see granny or go anywhere else when it is not shorts weather????

Is about 10-12 inches of fabric going to bust the 50 pound limit on your next flight?

Sorry, like I said before you can follow or ignore the rules and it won't bother me, or for that matter most people, in the least however don't expect approval from people who you intend to laugh at.

    Have a great cruise

    bosco

That part has nothing to do with those 10-12 extra inches of fabric. It's going to be very amusing when RCI finally amends their dress code to reflect what actually happens in the MDR. The thread on here from the fashion police is going to be epic.
