What a refreshing review. May the sea forever call you home and ease all your troubles.

EXCELLENT butler. Give the man a raise.

It just occurred to me that our society is very comfortable with giving small tokens of appreciation to guest speakers. I’ve seen it done hundreds of times, without comment or controversy.
So, in this context, the ship’s officers are guest speakers, and therefore offering them a gift is proper etiquette.

Fair enough, but when you (generic) tell someone they «*should have*» done something other than what they actually did, you (generic) are indicating that they did it wrong, and that you (generic) would have handled it better than they did.
That’s fine for complaint tactics, but for an altruistic gesture? A little harsh.

Point very much taken, but a ship’s officer is neither my superior nor my subordinate.

Again, we have people trying to make the OP feel GUILTY for a kind but perhaps ill-considered gesture. Yet I’m the one who’s negative.
Right. I hope that when you are tested, you handle it perfectly and reflect on your options.

Sounds like we have some people here who are feeling guilty that they didn’t think of this and who therefore are trying to make the OP feel as though he or she is doing something wrong.
Ignore them.

Forget the negativity here (which seems to be increasing by leaps and bounds). You’ve gone out of your way to reunite ring and wearer. I’m impressed with your generosity.

I have LAMBASTED people for giving the crew junky little trinkets from their hometown. You are right about that.
However, when I have achieved a positive result for a client, they have often brought me flowers and chocolate. I admit to being somewhat uncomfortable with the practice, but I still appreciate and remember their kindness.

Thank you for educating me about the alcohol restriction.
If you do bring a gift, a small, compact photo frame for pictures of faraway loved ones might be welcomed.

It is a lovely gesture, and something I have never thought to do.

A bottle of wine might be nice for their off-duty hours.

Then don’t bother with him again. You have enough of a paper trail to justify going over his head. If you encounter resistance at the next level, you might wish to quietly and calmly suggest that you will cancel the cruise if the matter is not resolved within one week.

I’m usually in the minority on these boards. I agree with the OP. If information was requested, why can’t it be provided in a timely fashion? Or do we take it for granted in our unproductive, unprofessional society that effort will never exceed compensation?

Weird. I don’t recall going very far, and we never stayed on Promenade. I’m so sorry to have given false information.

I would go to Guest Services immediately upon boarding. I travelled extensively on HAL with two elderly women, and our muster was ALWAYS on our deck. HAL needs to reassign you.

I have always said that if I won the lottery, the only thing I would want would be a “floating condo”. I’d use it as often as possible, and rent it out the rest of the time. Instant joy!

Ah, more posts from wonderful Viking cruisers mocking the elderly.
Just when one thought this might be two or three rotten apples spoiling the bunch.
How pathetic.

Forgive the lame joke, but at first I was concerned for the safety of the passengers...

Oops, sorry, you have legal guardianship.

Makes sense. Thank you.

Thank you to those arrogant enough to assert their own natural superiority in every thread. I swear to God, Cruise Critic is really going downhill.
Thank you, OP, for the levity.
