  1. The only issue with Scenic Eclipse is that they only have to cruises to Norway, and they are both in August. Not a prime time to see the lights. Silverse expeditions to Norway and the Artic are mostly in the Summer. Those lights can show up anytime of the year, but the chances diminish in the summer. I have seen a faint show driving from Banff to Calgary, Alberta, CA. It was summer time and it was in late afternoon/early evening. I would have been more spectacular at night, but by then they were gone.
  2. You may want to a look at Cunard’s Queen Victoria, not a luxury but nicer than Huntegruten. She has two, one in October and another in November. We are considering the one in October even if the chance to see the Aurora is less. November maybe to cold and higher chances of rough seas, which I can’t do too well.
  3. TC, I think your impression that is not the right cruise to determine "social atmosphere" is spot on. We were on the August 10th, cruise on the same ship and partner and I agreed how this cruise was nothing like the others we have taken on Crystal -on regards to the social aspect of fellow passengers, the rest was just like we expected. Glad you are sharing your experience and enjoying the ship. Cheers
  4. I have been sailing with you on this great voyage. I have been busy enjoying that I forgot to check in here on cruisecritic. I just read and caught up with this blog -something to do while at the club lounge at YVR. I found very interesting that we boarded at the same time on embarkation day and also enjoyed a glass of bubbly at the bistro, but never got to meet you. Next time I’ll pay more attention to blogs. Have a safe trip home.
  5. When you mess up cultural heritage, there is going to be controversy. Mexican Cuisine is part of UNESCO world heritage, and tacos are integral part of the Mexican Cuisine. If this person is trying to present something without regards or respect for that culture he only shows his ignorance or lack of respect. If the chef presented the exact same dish but call it a “deconstructed burger” I’m sure many people would object to that. Is not what is inside what makes the burger, is the buns and presentation. I have had veggie/salmon/tuna burgers. Before you build a house you have piles of building materials, you don’t call that a house. If you take a house apart (deconstruct) is not a house anymore, is a pile of rubbish. I’m not saying this dish is rubbish because I’m sure is very tasty, but is not a taco anymore. Best to you all Jorge Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  7. I’m not a taco snob, I eat tacos anywhere. -from high end restaurants to street vendors in downtown LA or street vendors in Oaxaca. Actually, I have tacos for breakfast every day at home. I eat mostly vegetarian, sauté spinach, kale, or chard with mushroom and onions, and home made salsa of course. Watching the video made want to try them. Too bad our next Crystal cruise is towards the second part of the year. Have to wait that long to try the deconstructed tacos [emoji6][emoji4] Jorge Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. Well, you called yourself a “taco snob”, so you should know the answer or have an opinion about that. For me is simple, if there is no tortilla involved then I’m not a taco. You mentioned that you travel extensively in Mexico, so you know there are many, many types and flavors of tacos. But the common denominator is the tortilla. To me if there is no tortilla involved then is not a taco. Jorge Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. If you watch the video to the end he shows the presentation. It is a deconstructed taco. Not a taco at all. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. No tux needed, a dark suit and tie is optional for BTO (black tie optional) the rest is a dress shirt and sport coat optional. Pearls are optional as well, but not the high heels [emoji6] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  12. We have also sailed Regent, but the service and the food were not consistent. We had some great meals and some not so great. Same with the service. Our experience with Crystal is that it is more consistent. The food has been superb, and the specially restaurants are just outstanding. We have not sailed on Celebrity for a while, but the last time we sailed on them, their specialty restaurants were expensive, although very good. On Crystal as you know is all inclusive for the first visit, the second visit is only $30 pp. Also, the last time we were on Celebrity the drink packages were fairly a new thing, when I would go to the bars the attendants didn't want to serve me because I had a drink package, which mean no tips for them, I think that has changed. Oh! and specialty martinis were not included on the package. It was irritating. On Crystal and/or Regent, no worries is all included and don't have to keep showing the card. Other than that we, have sailed Princess, Holland America and Silversea. We had the same issues on Silversea (in 2006) as the ones with Regent (in 2015), un-consistent service and food quality. So we have not been back to either line. If they have the right itinerary at the right time and price, we would not hesitate to book'em. Hope this give you some perspective. Jorge Z.
  13. Hi Tom My husband and I will be on the cruise just before yours. This will be our third cruise on Crystal. And we have two more booked. After our first Crystal cruise my husband said, I don’t think I want to sail on any other line but Crystal. Service, food, fellow passengers, enrichment programs, were all well executed. not much of night life, but still lots to do! I’m sure you will have a good time. 14. Besides supply and demand, you also have to consider the port fees the ship has to pay. Alaska ports asses hefty fees and get away with it, versus the Caribbean ports lower their fees to attract more ships. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
