  1. I'll find out about the champagne.

In the atrium, and going up the decks, are lights that look like bloodshot eyes or breasts, depending on how you look at them.

I have never in my life booked a ship based excursion until this trip and I've got 26 cruises under my belt. There's absolutely no reason to book a ship based excursion, don't believe the fear mongering. Even in Belize and Cartagena I used private companies. Many many times we just walk around. This time I had a lot of time to plan things and it was just so easy to click away until I had suddenly booked three carnival excursions. Yesterday's was pretty packed.

I don't know about the luggage service, we are walking off our luggage.

Yes the pool dies down around six but things start up again after early dining, especially the basketball courts and hot tubs.

  2. I have a beverage question for you. I'm contemplating getting the beverage package as it includes a bunch of non alcoholic options as well, however after extensive research I am unable to find if any of the vitamin waters, Powerade, or tea come in sugar free options. I did notice the rockstar energy drink in sugar free, but not interested in that. If my only diet options are soda and water, I may have to re-think package value for me. Also, do they offer drip coffee in the coffee shop? From the menus I have seen, it only appears to be sugar bomb lattes and frappes. Thanks so much for any info!

I've had non fat lattes from there, they are the same as Starbucks: no sugar. I will find out about the Powerades etc.

  3. Yes they had super trivia.

Our first tablemates, two others in a four top, talked about the US election (!!) and so we switched to any time, which was supposedly full. Zero wait for a table at 5:45.

There is a country show tonight; I have not been to any shows yet.

My son used the slot machines and made two bucks 🤣.

We missed the MDR last night and they may have had bitter and blanc. I have not seen it and it's not on the Hub App menu for tonight. Formal night did not have creme brûlée, which was on the Hub App.

Plenty of loungers, just have to be willing to get away from the pool.

Did not go to the comedy show yet.

Ports on this cruise: Amber Cove (did the Big 3 shore excursion, zip lines, obstacle course beach: liked it a lot). Today is St. Thomas, taking a taxi to the beach. Tomorrow is San Juan, walking to the Old Fort, on the next cruise we are doing an ATV excursion. Day after that is Grand Turk, doing a catamaran and snorkel excursion.

The ship is really big. At times it feels crowded. Haven't had a chance to get to know any crew members. But it's a lot less crowded than I thought it would be. Still love Glory best.

Line for Pig and Anchor so I skipped it.

Just realized there even was a Sea Dogs about an hour ago. No idea re: anything about it yet.

I think thats it. We are on for 15 days so ask away. I tend to go to bed after dinner and read but my son is out and about all night. I am up at 5:55 waiting for the coffee, lol. By the way, the coffee is really good this trip. Food is the same as always and always hot enough.

  4. hi everyone- on board Carnival Magic now, due in to St Thomas at 11. I've always gone on my own to St John via bus to Red Hook, then ferry, then water taxi back to Charlotte Amalie. We have less time today and I just want to go to the beach. I cannot wade through that 400+ response post about beaches, there's no way this wifi will let me.

So which beach is the nicest? Toys would be nice (rafts, chairs) as I have my 18 year old son with me. Two ships are in port today. Magen's? Coki?

    Thanks in advance-

  5. Leaving on B2B this Saturday on Magic, 15 days. Once you do a B2B you get spoiled and a 7 day seems too short. We have to have an interior to afford it, and it's still way out of my financial comfort zone, but it's worth it in the long run. You can really get away from your daily routine (work) and relax. Turnaround day is usually really fun; you get the ship to yourselves.

  6. We just finished a 8 Night Cruise on the Magic.......

We had the Cheers Package and a Deck 9 Forward Inside Cabin. Which was great we were 2 doors away from access to the open deck right on top of the bridge wing.

We would love to answer any questions we can.

    Tom and Paula

That's exactly where I'm headed in 26 days- cabin 9214, forward interior. We are doing an 8 day and a 7 day B2B. How was the cruise? Did it feel crowded to you?

  7. the gazillion previous threads on this didn't give you ANY idea?

with 1600+ posts I'd expect you to be better about trying search or just scrolling back .....

This is exactly why people have abandoned Cruisecritic in favor of social media.

It's my turn to figure this out and I came on here to get ideas. I tried to reserve Go Port Canaveral but never heard back. Here's a tip, Capt BJ: when it's your issue you would like the answer, and the search function on here doesn't work 90% of the time. If you don't like the thread title, don't click on it. But don't spread bad juju.

  8. Platinum self assist is the way to go. Even though I was one of the first off Elation last week, it was a delayed debarkation and in addition they only had 2 custom agents on duty with 8 posititions available at the Jacksonville port. Ridiculous. I did not get to the shuttle bus until 9:30am and they waited until 10:00am to leave for the airport to wait for some other late disembarking passengers. You never know what could happen on disembark day so don't book a flight too early.

Too late. 1:50 departure, airport is an hour away. Way closer than I would ever want to cut it but I have a history of messing some aspect of a trip up- I once flew us into Houston three days before a Galveston cruise. Whoops. But I think I'll make it. I think I'll take Uber to avoid the shuttle-waiting experience you describe.

  9. Thank you. I think the plan at this point is to keep Cocoa Beach Shuttle, then on turnaround day (it's a B2B), when the ship is in port, check the Uber app to see if surge pricing is astronomical. If it looks ok, I'll cancel the Cocoa Beach Shuttle (for the next week) and use Uber. If it's a crazy price, just keep the shuttle.

  10. I have a shuttle booked to a Best Western and I'm fine with that. However, I'm just realizing that I somehow booked a 1:50 pm flight after we return. Has anyone used Uber from the cruise terminal to the airport? How on earth do you find your Uber in that crowd? And has anyone used Cocoa Beach Shuttle from the cruise terminal back to MCO?

    Thanks in advance-

  11. those of you on keto, do you stay keto on the cruise? Do you take the week off? I usually cheat on vacation and feel like crap. Wondering if cruise food lends itself to low carb or a happy medium.

This is just for me- and as I said, I lost 60 on LCHF, I cannot do LC on a cruise, not on a Carnival cruise anyway. Everything has carbs. Honestly it's cheap food, mass produced. Even the scrambled eggs in the delicious breakfast burritos has pancake batter mixed in to add fluffiness. And the Danish... no way am I saying no to Danish. I guess if I were to stand in the omelet line every day.... then have a Guy's Burger, no bun... then eat about five entrees at dinner so I could just eat the meat and not the 3/4 of the plate that is carb I could do it. But I'm on there for 14 days usually and just: no way. Back when they had salmon and shrimp at breakfast and lunch, maybe. But not now. And it's might hard to pick up low carb again after, mighty hard. So I do a Whole 30 after. Puleo including fruit and sweet potatoes. And the weight comes off.

  12. Hi everyone, back to this WOE after a frustrating two months on WW followed by an equally frustrating two months on Nutrisystem. Net loss from WW: zero. Net loss from NS: 5 pounds. I'm done clowning around. I lost 60 pounds on low carb two years ago, was floating along at about 30 pounds higher than I want to be, and thought WW and NS would do the trick. I've now gained and lost and regained the same 5-10 pounds more times than I can count. It really seems as though the only way I can lose is by cutting carbs to ketogenic levels. I know I'm in for a rough week but here goes! I've got a freezer full of NS foods to spur me on- boy was that expensive and boy was I starving. Forget it! 61 days until my cruise- I can do this! :)
