  1. I know, I know - yet another thread related to this but I do have a question I have not seen an answer to anywhere.

I have read too many threads to count regarding whether it is or is not allowable to use NON refundable OBC either in the casino (basically cashing it out for the 3% fee) or as additional staff tips (NOT referring to DSC). The general consensus is it is allowed though some have had issues and been denied but I'm not sure if they found this out after the fact or not.

My question is how would I know or could I tell for absolute sure whether a charge in the Casino (+3% fee) to my on board account or any additional tips to staff would be applied to my non refundable OBC or not? I know the casino technically is just charging it to my account and has no knowledge of, nor would they care, what OBC I may or may not have.

My concern is that I would end up being one of the few that seems to be denied having the non refundable OBC applied for such charges on my account. How did those that were not able to determine this was the case? I'd hate to charge $XXX in the casino expecting it to come out of my non refundable OBC only to find out on the last day that isn't the case.

(I've seen some say that such charges were reflected correctly in their account as they checked it daily showing their non refundable OBC being used but then that was reverted last day to where the non refundable OBC was not actually used.)

    tl;dr

Is there any way to know for sure before actually doing a casino or additional staff tip (NOT DSC) charge if my non refundable OBC will be applied to these charges or would I just be taking a chance hoping that I'm not one of the unlucky ones that weren't able to?

I am asking specifically for the Sun.

    Thanks!

  2. Not on the ship, but take a snorkeling excursion that provides rum punch and other liqueurs, skip the snorkeling and stay on the boat and drink. That's how my husband got plastered in St Thomas!

    This!

Albeit my first cruise was 14 years ago so that could be partially to blame for me not remembering much of it but I do recall getting completing plastered on the rum punches (double fisting it always) on the two excursions we took that involved catamarans or boats. Ugh... couldn't even make dinner one of those nights.

  3. I feel kinda silly asking this but I have reviewed numerous videos, pics, and websites and have yet to be able to locate something showing *exactly* where one would need to go to enter into the cruise terminal at Canada Place if walking there. From what I have seen, the place is huge so I imagine it would be quite the pain/hassle to accidentally go to the wrong side or enter a wrong door, etc. All instructions for how to get to Canada Place for a cruise I have seen assume you are driving or they just terminate at the street.

I figured their site would have a map of the actual place showing what is where within but I couldn't even locate that.

Does anyone have anything they can share? Like a pic from the outside with a big arrow or circle showing where one would go?

  4. But I suppose it's possible if you make the maximum bid that NCL will lock you in before you can change your mind. If you bid is accepted early, you almost certainly bid too much.

I've seen a few people note their bids were accepted weeks before the departure date so I'm sure this happens. I'm not sure it necessarily needs to be the "maximum" bid, just some value that is likely equal to or greater than the difference between the current value of the cabin they are currently in (not necessarily what they paid) and the one they are bidding on. That's just my assumption, however.

And that makes sense since it really is just a program to maximize profit.

  5. Would you please share what these handwipes are called and where you purchase them? I've seen a large container of some that claim to kill viruses, but never individually wrapped ones. I bought the large container once, but it was too heavy to pack. I tried pulling out a few, neatly folding them, and putting them in baggies, but lots of work and I never used most of them before they dried out!

I'm not sure which they were referring to but here is the list of products according to the EPA that are effective against norovirus:

  6. Following Emerald Lake we started back and stopped at a truck stop near Carcross and had lunch (don't let the term "truck stop" scare you - I had such a delicious chicken sandwich) and then stopped in Carcross. We had about 30 minutes there to wander into stores and buy some delicious ice cream.

We are also booked with Dyea Dave in Sept. I've noticed recent reviews have noted that Craig has been stopping at that truck stop for lunch instead in Carcross proper. When I booked with Kathy a few weeks ago, her email specifically stated "We stop for lunch in Carcross and it can be under $15 and there are bakery's and ice cream places."

I haven't heard anything negative about this "truck stop" but really looking forward to stopping in Carcross for lunch, not before.

Did he give you a choice? I'm debating emailing Kathy back and verifying we will, indeed, be stopping IN Carcross for lunch and not at the truck stop beforehand.

  7. ^Wasn't aware YWCA banned pets - another good reason to recommend them IMO!

My point was poorly-expressed; I should have clarified that while avoiding pets just might be possible, no hotel is allowed to ban animals entirely as Service Animals disability access rules require them to accept patrons who use them. Since allergies make no distinction between a teacup-poodle-that-fur-baby-momma-cannot-leave-home and a working-service-animal-that-aids-with-a-genuine-condition I jumped straight to the 'you cannot guarantee any hotel is free of potential allergens' point.

Agreed. Though they do not allow "pets" that may not include service animals so anyone interested would want to call and verify what they do or do not allow personally.

  8. The single serving Keurig was at our hotel in Vancouver and not in 9277. They definitely had a coffee pot that we used - but it wasn't a Keurig. I had to bring liquid creamer into the room - they didn't have it. Other than a few mornings, we ordered coffee from room service so also had extra creamers from that.

Sorry, I skimmed too fast looking for that info!

I assume it was one of those 4 cup coffee pots that you can use a little filter with (if I wanted to bring my own coffee)?

I'll plan to bring real creamer/milk into room.

  9. Thanks, all, for the ideas/suggestions. I appreciate it. I think I've got enough information and I will discuss with my friends and come up with a plan together.

I've been researching this cruise (ship and ports) for the last 9 months so I know where all the bars are and such but because I have never been on the Sun (and haven't even been on a cruise in 14 years), I wasn't sure which ones would be open right away, which are easier to get to, better to "lounge" in waiting for others, etc.

    Again, thanks!

  10. The Observation Lounge at the front of the ship would be a great place for meeting up' date=' no matter the weather. It's large, and has doors that open up onto a deck at the front of the ship which is great for sail-away.

The pool deck and Topsiders is another great place during good weather. They usually have a BBQ going on there, live music, and waiters circulating with the drink of the day for purchase.

Where are you going and from which port do you depart?[/quote']

Heading to Alaska from Vancouver in Sept so weather may be questionable.

    Thanks!
