  1. There are servers in the casino. A little tip will encourage them to return sooner.

Main bar - I would suggest not using any term like that as different folks will use different bars.

I guess it depends when you are meeting up. If during the boarding process and nice outside, then an outside bar. Otherwise somewhere inside?

    Lots of bars : https://www.ncl.com/cruise-ship/sun#whats-on-board

    Thanks!

Good to know there are servers in the casino and, ya, I'm a tipping person.

I was kinda hoping there would be what would be considered a "main bar" as far as the largest, where most people go, easiest to find/get to, etc but I get what you are saying. This would be sometime during the boarding process though no clue yet as to what time. I was planning to meet outside but didn't even think about the weather. If it's cold and raining I don't think any of us will be wanting to wait for anyone outside. I'll think of something! I've got a couple months yet.

  2. Just a couple Sun questions...

What would be considered the "main bar" on the ship for purposes of trying to coordinate meeting up with people? Some of our friends will be on the same sailing as us but I doubt we will be boarding together. I'd like to suggest some place for us to meet at a set time. From the photos and reading I've done, I would guess Topsiders?

Also, are there servers in the casino or do you need to go up to the bar for drinks?

    Thanks!

  3. I actually already have reservations (Cagney's x 2 and La Cucina) for the sea days just in case but made those without actually consulting the other half. He's a steak kinda guy so I feel confident with Cagney's but not sure about La Cucina. He may want to do Moderno or Teppanyaki.

We actually have friends that will be on the same sailing as us as a part of a group so it may very well be that we end up meeting up with them for dinner in a specialty restaurant or MDR some nights but that's all up in the air right now. I'll certainly cancel my reservations as early as possible if we don't want/need them.

From the Cagney's menus I have seen (not sure if accurate for the Sun right now) there aren't really any entrees that stand out plus I really would want an app or 2 and a salad and doubt I'd be able to also finish an entree.

If I'm able to review the menus in advance, it would definitely help with my decision...

  4. Does anyone who has been on the Sun in the last few months have pictures of the specialty restaurant menus to include pricing?

I've found some quite old menus and those from other ships but there were references to the menus differing between the larger and smaller ships.

I'm just trying to determine if it would be worth buying 3 night SDP or not. In most cases, I would likely only order an app and a salad and maybe a side but the other half might want to go all out. I'd be able to make a better guess if I could see the items on the menus and prices.

    Thank you!

  5. I was worried about seeing a few reviews on Tripadvisor, but we loved the area. We never felt unsafe and thought the location really worked for us. We walked around several nights after dark and never felt uncomfortable at all and it honestly didn't seem (to us at least) any different (for better or worse) than other areas nears Canada Place, etc. I would definitely stay there again!

    Excellent! Thanks!

Looking forward to the rest of your review!

  6. We stayed at the Holiday Inn Downtown in Vancouver. This turned out to be a perfect hotel for us. We had enough points to cover all 4 nights there - so our only charge was one dinner. We found the location to be perfect for us. I worried at first that it would be too far from Canada Place or not in a good location - but it turned out being central to make many places walkable and we were happy with it. We found the customer service to be great, enjoyed the hotel bar and the various terraces we could sit on enjoying our drinks. They were also very helpful with giving us directions and typical tourist information.

    ...

We checked in quickly and went up to our 7th story room. We quickly went to bed as it had been a long day -but we were very much looking forward to our first day in Vancouver and the husbands joining us.

Glad to hear you liked the hotel. We'll be staying there for 2 nights in Sept and haven't seen anyone here choosing it. How was the immediate area? Any concerns walking around after dark?

  7. Alright, my 90 days out date is approaching and I'm trying to figure out what email address I should be looking for. Searching the thread is a bit hard since nearly everyone mentions the word email :)

Can someone tell me what the from address is on the bidding email so I can put out an alert to watch for it?

Thanks in advance for any help!

As a few others mentioned, I never received any email. I just happened to notice on day 80 the banner and message when I logged into my account on ncl.com.

That said, the email confirmation I received after placing my bid came from:

    Norwegian's Upgrade Advantage <upgradeadvantage@ncl.com>

  8. Thanks, all! I've been debating what to do in Skagway since we'll be there for >13 hrs. Just fired off an email to get reserved for the Emerald Lake tour! After reading this thread, a few others, TripAdvisor reviews, and his site, it just seemed like the perfect tour to do!

  9. First hand experience on our cruise on the Breakaway last month.

We decided to pay to move from a Spa Balcony to a Spa Havens Suite (because the difference in price actually came down under our bid, and by just paying for the Havens room, we got all of the free at sea perks).

The bidding system kept our old bids at a high $$$.

Once we cancelled those bids, the bidding system allowed us to re-bid with a much lower minimum/maximum bid (which made sense since we had paid more for our base cabin).

That's exactly the scenario I was wondering about. Thank you!

  10. We upgraded to Haven while having bids on different Haven cabins on our May cruise. After upgrading, I cancelled our bids, only to get another upgrade email with price ranges reflecting our current cabin. For example, the DOS on the Breakaway had a minimum bid of $1500 when we were in a spa mini, but once we upgraded to an H5, the minimum was $750. Hope that helps!

    Thank you very much!

  11. That looks like a nice weight for an alaskan cruise also. It could be chilly and rainy. I sincerely hope not, but it was when I went in 2012.

Also, I'd like to say thank you for not sporting tights that women wear as 'pants'. I am a big sister to a young girl. She sees this EVERYWHERE .... in real life, TV, internet, etc. So she wears skin tight leggings and a T shirt that BARELY comes to the waist band of the tights! ALL of her is crudely and completely exposed. NOT appropriate for a girl of 11 almost 12 years old. I told her we would not leave her house until she changed.

I expect it will be cooler and rainy. If not, then WOOHOO!

I am planning on bringing a couple pair of leggings but they would be for wearing under the pants (example from that photo) as an extra layer of warmth when sitting on balcony, up top seeing the sites, etc. Personally, I never go in public in just leggings. No one wants to see that!

  12. I think there have been some 7 day round trip Vancouver/Alaska (Juneau/Skagway/Ketchikan) sailing on NCL Sun already this year. We will be doing that itinerary in Sept and curious if anyone has copies of the dailies?

    Thanks much!

  13. I understand an Alaska cruise on Norwegian Sun will be more relaxed than many others however I have a question.

Would it be acceptable to wear loungy/yoga type pants on board, especially on sea days? Specifically for buffet, casino, just walking around, or would this be pushing it a bit.

Here's an example of what I'm thinking of: https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/713XddnCKwL._SY450_.jpg

    [ETA]

It's been 14 years since I've been on a cruise and that was a Caribbean/hot weather one so seeing people running around in suits/cover-ups was expected/norm.

  14. I have searched and searched but have been unable to locate a definitive answer. Can anyone confirm if the Sun is participating in the upgrade advantage program? I know it was only certain ships initially but was to roll out to all by end of Q2 2017 but I have yet to locate any reference to anyone sailing on the Sun noting they have been able to bid.

    Thank you!
