  1. Retin-a is still available but much more expensive than it use to be. I remember buying it for $8 a tube. Then it went to $13, then $18, then $37. When I inquired last week they were asking $51 per tube!

Bummer !!! this happened to me, too, on my last trip and I thought they were making a pesos conversion error. I used to pay about $12 for a tube; in March the Mega store wanted close to $50!!!!!

  2. I would roll over and go back to bed. I am by no means a morning person in any way, shape, or form. If I was forced to get my grumpy butt out of my room, then I would require a nap probably somewhere around 10AM. Need my beauty sleep, ya know :D

hahahahahah --- that's what I was going to say! If I was ever up at 5:30 am I'd certainly roll back over and fall back to sleep. Let the chair hogs do their work in peace!

  3. For my wife and I it's totally worth it! Think Ruth's Chris or something along that line.

Ruth's Chris serves Prime (top 2% of beef); the steak in the steakhouse might be better than in the MDR, but I can almost guarantee it is not Prime.

  4. When do you travel and where? I too am going solo for the first time in August on the Valor.

I am Orlando based so I prefer to cruise out of Pt Canaveral, FLL, and Tampa. I'm also open to going to SJU for a Southern Caribbean route.

I'd love to go to Alaska but the airfare is so extraordinary. Also considering my first Transatlantic if/when the price is right!

  5. Ok, so I am going on my first solo in a few weeks, on Carnival. Full disclosure - CCL is my least favorite mass market cruise line, but it had the best rate for a solo in a balcony cabin.

Now that I'm an empty nester, I'll be sailing solo whenever the rate is favorable in a balcony. So that rules out the Studios on NCL.

Since this is all new to me, what other cruiselines (excluding Regent/Oceania, etc) occasionally offer decent solo rates on categories other than Insides?

  6. Very interesting about the traveling solo as a red flag. I met a guy traveling solo once, with 2 large suitcases. One was for clothes and the other was for his scuba gear.

When we got off the ship and went through customs, he was pulled aside, taken to a private room, and had all of his luggage searched, while being thoroughly questioned about why he was traveling alone, what he did for a living, etc. Such a sweet guy who wouldn't hurt a fly. Now I understand why they did that. I'll have to tell him this when I get home - I ended up marrying him a year later. ;)

OMG - I just got goosebumps!!!! Such a great story! I'm traveling solo for the first time in a couple of weeks.. hopefully they don't put me through anything weird! Fortunately I'm a nice, widowed, empty nester with a kid who just started college! I promise I won't be smuggling anything back from the islands!!!!

  7. Hi Just wanted to mention I got a very good price on a back to back(8 night each)cruise on Carnival Freedom Sept.27th and Oct.4th. Total price for my own inside(1a level) cabin is $1243.38 including port and taxes. Also I will get a $50.00 on board credit on the second cruise. Does not include tips. Kendra

enjoy! 2 weeks as a solo cruiser -- sounds great!

  8. Sorry, I searched the forums but can't find a current answer... is cappuccino/espresso included at breakfast? I LOVE really strong coffee and espresso based drinks. I'd go to the MBR just to get several of them as my breakfast. If it helps, I'll be on the Legend in a few weeks.

    Thanks!
