  1. With UPS MyChoice, you will only get the initial email if something is being sent UPS SurePost.  UPS Surepost means UPS delivers it to USPS who then delivers it to you.  You only get additional alerts if UPS is delivering the package to you themselves.  The initial email will say if a package is ineligible for further alerts.  If UPS later decides to deliver the SurePost package themselves, you still won't get additional alerts.

  2. The coupon book is $25(?) and valid until some date.  It can be used on later cruises. I looked at one once.  I didn't think it was worth it. I think the talk lasts for about an hour. They do give away free stuff during the talk.

I only go to the fun ashore and fun aboard talk that is always right before the shopping talk.  They give away free excursions, internet plans, and other stuff.  The shopping talk always puts me to sleep.  I stick around long enough to get the maps, and then I'm gone.

I don’t remember the problem being that they didn’t have PIN’s. I remember that there were some bogus e-cards circulating around and Carnival wanted to verify them first.

I remember that e-cards from one site(not AARP or Allstate) didn't have a PIN for some reason.  Carnival stopped accepting cards without a PIN.  I don't remember if the cards without a PIN were the bogus ones.

I vaguely remember a post many months ago from someone who reported there was some limit on the dollar amount in gift cards that guest services would accept from him.  I can't recall that anyone else has ever mentioned it.  I figured if it was an issue, we would see more instances reported here.

In late 2017/early 2018 there were issues with e-gift cards.  Some didn't have a PIN.  There was a thread that said Carnival was limiting people to three gift cards of any kind without having to contact shoreside to get approval for more.  It wasn't always enforced.  At least one person had issues applying two cards at once.  It sometimes took two or three days to get approval for the extra gift cards.

I didn't have any problems applying three e-gift cards with PINs in January/February 2018.  I applied two cards on the first day and the third card later when I needed it.

Wifi offers a variety of ways to message back home but not with normal texting.

You can use an app on the wifi like WhatsApp .IF you have an Apple phone there's other apps available.

YOu can also text from shore depending on your ports.

If your phone is capable of wifi texting, you can use regular texting with the ship's wifi.  The texts are sent over wifi instead of a cellular connection.  I use wifi texting on every cruise.

Carnival explicitly states FTTF is not offered on Journeys cruises. The reason is there are so many Platinums and Diamonds on these cruises.l

For all other cruises (except departure ports where FTTF is not offerred) the number of FTTF sold is based on the number of Platinums and Diamonds expected to be onboard.  Closer to departure, if Platinum and Diamond bookings have not materialized as expected, Carnival will release more FTTF for sale. As a general rule, shorter cruises and older ships tend to attract fewer Platinums and Diamonds, so those cruises will have more FTTF slots for sale.

The FTTF page doesn't address Barbados, San Diego, and San Francisco.  The page doesn't say one way or the other.  I know it isn't offered in Barbados.  The incompleteness bugs me.

  7. I won't be editing my signature because of the 10 line limit.  I wasn't even close to exceeding the limit before the redesign, but I exceed it now.  I am currently at 11 lines.  I would like to add three more.  I don't want to use commas or slashes because it would look too crowded.  I like having each cruise on a separate line.  I think it is easier and more pleasant to read.

  8. I saw an offer in 2016 or 2017 for Louisiana and Georgia residents for cruises out of New Orleans.  I don't remember the eligible dates or if you were able to choose your room.

My mom got a large postcard in the mail about two weeks ago, despite me disabling that for her, that had a Louisiana resident offer for cruises out of New Orleans.  I was able to apply it to a cruise in January 2021.

1)Keep in mind that they fill the 16 oz glass with ice first, then pour in the soda.  You are only getting about a half can of the soda.  If you buy it individually, you get the whole can plus a glass of ice.

2)The Bottomless Bubbles package is $8.50 + 18% gratuity or roughly $10 per person per day.  Will you be drinking more than 3 sodas per day?  As others have said, you each can bring on 12 sodas in cans when boarding.  You can also replenish your supply from the ports you visit.  A little more work but a real cost savings.

    1) That's what I said.

    2) I'm not the OP.

  10. Without Bottomless Bubbles, they will give you the whole 12oz can.  With Bottomless Bubbles, they pour it into a 16oz glass with ice in it.

The last time I bought a can was in January 2018.  It was $2.50 + gratuity at the time.

At this point, I'm thinking/planning on booking 4 Port hole rooms on the Sensation.  Yes, I know it is an older ship, but it is going the direction I haven't been to for many a year.  I have done the Port hole once or twice and like it, but cannot remember if it was a 1A, 4J, etc.  How do I know which one to ask/pick?  I don't know if the 1, 4, A, J stand for the deck floor or what?  Maybe someone here can "enlighten" me. 🙂

1A cabins on the Sensation don't have portholes.  They are inside cabins with a twin bed and an upper pullman. Porthole cabins on the Sensation are PT cabins.

But even then - does the typical TSA agent or cruise security personnel have a way to confirm that the pills in a bottle are actually what the label says?   If someone put controlled substance pills in a bottle labeled as  diuretic pills, how would that be caught?  Just curious, since this topic comes up regularly.

The controlled pill likely wouldn't match the description on the bottle.  Also, TSA/CBP agents receive training on what controlled substances look like.  Cruise security personnel generally don't care about prescriptions. CBP is the agency that would potentially care.  I've read posts on Cruise Critic about some people going through Customs randomly pulled aside by CBP for a drug check.  At least one of those people didn't even take prescriptions.

  13. My first cruise was a 5 day on the Jubilee in June 2002.  I did eight more(4, 4, 5, 4, 8, 5, 7, 5) from February 2016 - February 2019.  I am at 47 days. I have a 5 day on the Valor in December, a 4 day on the Inspiration in August 2020, and a 14 day B2B on the Glory in January 2021.  Those cruises will get me to 70 days.  I will get to Platinum in 2022 if they don't change the program before that.

All I did was state my opinion and was immediately jumped on. I guess it's just another CC bashing if someone's opinion is different than the hive.

This site allows for open discussion.  You are allowed to state your opinion.  Other people are allowed to state their opinion as well, even if it contradicts yours.

The laws of physics mean it's impossible to add more cubic inches of material inside a suitcase and have it save space.

It isn't about adding nonexistent space.  Compression packing cubes free up space that would otherwise be taken by clothes.  Compression cubes get rid of the dead space between clothes.  That freed up space can then be used to pack stuff that otherwise wouldn't fit in the suitcase.

I can fit 10 days of clothes(10 2X t-shirts, 3 size 14 jeans, socks, bras, underwear, swimsuit, elegant night outfit) in one compression packing cube.  I don't put each clothing type in a separate cube.

wow, you sound like 68 is old!

My mother has type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, borderline glaucoma, and at least tendonitis.  Her mother died at 86 from congestive heart failure.  Her father died at 66 from colon cancer that had spread to his lungs.

My father died at 57 from a heart attack with heart disease as a contributing cause.  He had type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, both lenses replaced due to cataracts, major heart attack, angioplasty, stents, quadruple bypass, defibrillator that was taken out due to a staph infection and replaced with a pacemaker/defibrillator, and congestive heart failure six times.  His heart function was down to 10% before he died.  His father died at around 50 from heart disease.  His mother died at 70 from the effects of a stroke several year prior.  She was bedridden.  She just wanted to go.
