  1. As my 12-year-old daughter would say, "What happens to these kids when they go to college?" Yes, I know that feels like a long time from now, but it's really not that long, and they are going to have a whole lot more independence than going to Lido for some pizza. IMO it's actually safer in the long run to teach kids to be independent and confident. Now, some 13-year-old girls might be exploring some new behaviors that would make them at risk on a ship, and only you know your child. But if you trust your child to make good decisions, this might be an opportunity to let her spread her wings. If you're uncomfortable about hallways, make strict rules about staying in the public areas -- maybe tell her Lido and higher decks only. No one is going to push her off the ship unless she's sitting on the railing at 1 a.m.

Don't get me wrong....I'm not saying that she won't be allowed to go get some food, or go to a store to look around by herself....But when it comes to free reign of the ship by herself, it's a different story. Public areas are a different story. Would I be at the pool and let her go back to the room on her own? No. But if I'm at the pool and she's hungry? Fine. Get food. AND it would be a whole different story if we were going with friends that had kids her age and I knew the kids and she could go as a group. BUT never cruising with kids before, I need to get there, have a feel for the area, and I would want to meet the kids that she is wanting to hang out with.

It has nothing to do with not trusting her as she is a "good kid", but it's not trusting other people. NOW, if I compare it to camping......I usually start out saying not to go anywhere without me, and when I get comfortable and start knowing my own surroundings and the other people around us I lighten up. It's just a fear of the unknown.

  2. Call me overprotective but I already told my 13 year old she will not be leaving or going anywhere without supervision. It's my first cruise with kids, but I don't let her roam in a hotel, I'm certainly not letting her roam on a ship! It;s not her I'm worried about. She is a great kid. I'm worried about people that can open their room doors and just pull her in and I'd never know. I'm worried that she could get pushed overboard. I know, I know. I'm a worry wart. But I'd rather be safe than sorry!

  3. It's no better on RC. They had signs everywhere that seats are not to be saved, and any unattended chair for over 30 minutes would have the items removed but that never happened. I had a heck of a time finding somewhere to sit outside to read a book. I walked all 3 outside decks to find one lone chair didn't matter how close to the pool and I couldn't find one to save my life! It sucked!

  4. They are in a sealed envelope and placed in the mail box outside your room. Nothing to stop anyone from taking them but they would be hard pressed to use your card as your picture comes up when they slide it. Plus there are camera's everywhere so someone would be busted pretty quick I'd say.

Ahhhhh. Thank you! Sounds good. I also would hope people are honest....heck, we camp a TON and we never lock our camper. I guess we always trust other campers to be honest as well and there isn't cameras! It's just being our first time on Carnival, only our second cruise ever, and 1st with kids, I am nervous excited!

  5. LOL good to hear so many people say Courtyard. We travel A LOT for my children's skating competitions (This week is #2 out of 3 weekends in a row) and we always stay Marriott. My mother in law works for Marriott so we get a great discount! Courtyard is a great hotel although I prefer Residence Inn or Springhill Suites for the kitchens. Although, we don't have a kitchen in our room on the ship!

  6. Stupid question: But what prevents anyone from just taking cards out of a box? Or does it have a code they tell you at check in? Just curious. This will be new for us!

Not a stupid question as OP stated they did not get FTTF this time around so the cards will be in box outside the cabin once the cabin is available to them (if available at 1:00/1:30 then that is when the cards will be in box).

I guess my question is: can't anyone access the box? What prevents anyone passing by just to go in to the box and take the sealed envelope with the cards in it and charge up your account???? Is the box locked with a code and you get the code on your boarding pass? Just never heard of these boxes before......

  7. This is new. It apparently speeds up the boarding process. Cards are delivered to box outside your room. I am fine with it as long as I can make purchases prior to being allowed to go to my cabin.

  8. Hmmmmm....that's different from what RC does. They printed our cards at the check in desk before we boarded. Then they punched a hole in it so you could put it on a lanyard. So on Carnival we don't get the cards til we are in our room? Do they have a hole punched in them already? I'm confused now!

  9. Last year was our first cruise and I had all of the same reservations you did about how it will all go down. I was worried about lockers so we could swim, and just overall how it happened. I think my mom gave me the best advice by saying that the cruise lines know what they are doing and they have thought of everything. Anything I was worried about was taken care of. I wish I would have known about this website to ask questions before last year's cruise! We booked an excursion at our first port, and didn't at our second because I was so nervous. Now, I regret it. I can't say I didn't enjoy our stay in Jamaica, but we just sat around Margaritaville and it just wasn't like the first port we went to where we could swim on the beach and look around . It was all shopping and restaurants and all excursions were a bus ride away and being my first cruise, I didn't want the ship out of my sight for fear we would be late! Now, I'm a little more relaxed and I now know that if I book an excursion through the cruise line, they won't leave us if we are late due to an error on their end. I can relax a little more this time. Although, this will be our first time with kids!

  10. In January 2016 I friend and I were on the Splendor in the casino very late, about 4 AM, playing slots and a guy walked by totally naked. We went to guest services to report it and the rep thought we were drunk, until he came walking up asking where his cabin was. Security showed up to escort him to his cabin and the funniest part was they headed upstairs in the atrium GLASS elevators

  11. Just curious.....we live near Cedar Point and we can purchase a season picture pass along with our season passes to get in. This means that everytime we go to Cedar Point and they take a picture of us, we can get access to it online and do with it what we want. I know the cruise ships take pictures that are for sale. Do they have a package that you can buy so you can get them all? Or is it just one price per individual picture?

  12. We went and my boys enjoyed it. You get a plate of sugar and get to see the Dr. Seuss characters and they will come to your table for pictures. It's fun for kids and it's only $5. So if you don't like it, it's not like you wasted much money. You can sign up when you embark. There will be a table set up somewhere, likely near Lido where you sign up. Then you get a reminder the day before it happens so you can go to the MDR to enjoy your sugary plate. :)

A plate of sugar. Ha ha. I noticed in the YouTube videos :'):'):') Fruit Loops crust on french toast?! I agree, $5 isn't bad at all! I think for the experience it's worth $5! Thank you all for information

  13. Is it worth it? I'm not really a breakfast person, but I've seen the YouTube videos and it looks really cute. Not sure if the kids would think it's corny or cool! How much is it per person? I can't see where you sign up for it on the website. Under specialty dining it doesn't show up.

  14. So if you paid for an excursion and the port gets skipped, do they refund you that money? We've only done one cruise and didn't have a problem. Really, I'm ok if we miss 2 of our 3 ports this next cruise, but seriously if we miss Grand Cayman and the sea turtle farm, I think I'd cry!
