  1. If you interact with the maitre de because you have an issue in the dining room (issue with waitstaff, location, timing etc), you will know. If I have no issues that need extra attention from the maitre de, I don't tip him extra. If you have an issue that's handled in 5 minutes and no future follow ups are made - don't feel obligated to tip extra. If they help you and then follow up with you thru the cruise - consider some extra money at the end - but remember - they serve thousands on board, even a small amount ($10) will be appreciated - even more so - mention them on the post cruise survey.

If you don't need help from the wine steward to select wines during your trip - the standard tips cover them. If you interact with them or get help from them - you will know it and know if they deserve an EXTRA tip above the standard tip. Again - mention by name in the cruise survey would be a great thank you as well.

    Thanks!

  2. We have been on over 30 cruises. When we started cruising with Royal they didn't automatically add tips to the sea pass. They gave you a suggested amount that you should tip. That was a pain since you had to cruise with lots of cash. We followed the suggested amount and almost always gave more. Now that you can either prepay or its added daily it is a much better way for us. We do give more at the end of our cruise to our steward. We also give extra to our wait staff, wine steward, maître d, and favorite ball staff. These people work hard. They also give up things to work on a cruise ship away from their family.

Can you tell me when you interact with a wine steward and maitre d? I'm a first time cruiser, and these jobs aren't familiar to me. I'm sailing on the liberty, if that matters.

I'm planning my list for gratuities, and I don't want to leave anyone out that may deserve it, that I may unexpectedly run into. Thanks!

  3. Thanks, guys.

I also use my card for all purchases in life--I'm talking $1 at Dunks to half of my husband's vehicle this year. I make on average about $25-$50 a month just from charging everything into my card. We sweep it every month so that there are no interest charges. BUT it does take discipline and knowing how much you can spend (to me, that is exactly like cash).

@waterlegs, if you're interested, you could have a card to use on your DH's account. That's what we do to maximize points. I have the CC account and he has a card in his name. Both of our checking accounts are on the pay accounts for the card so that we pay for our own charges. May sound confusing at first, but it becomes second nature.

Sorry so off topic, but I love to explain to people how much money they could be making with zero extra work, AS LONG as they are disciplined enough not to incur ANY monthly charges.

  4. Good morning (respectively),

I was assigned stateroom 9225 on the LOS. I found a deck plan for D10 so that I could see if there was anything noisy right above my room, but there's just this large whited-out area with no explanation of what it is. I have provided CC links to the plans for both D9 & D10. Anyone have an idea of what this large blank space in the front of the ship on D10 is?

    D9 (where my room, 9225, is): http://www.cruisecritic.com/liberty-of-the-seas-deck-plans/dp/?shipID=389&deck=9

D10 (where the large blank space is above room 9225): http://www.cruisecritic.com/liberty-of-the-seas-deck-plans/dp/?shipID=389&deck=10

Reviewers gave D9 & D10 great reviews, so I'd like to stay on this floor if there isn't a noise issue from above. Although, I am a little nervous about sea-sickness on such a high deck. I get car-sick pretty badly, but I've never been on the sea.

Thank you for any info you have regarding that unknown blank spot on the deck plans! (and any other tidbit you might care to throw in)

  5. Personally, I took it as a lighthearted joke.

From what I saw in the videos (and Id imagine anyone that has actually seen it in person Would agree), there are tons of basic equipment. That's not what I was looking for in the OP, as I find the old school elliptical and treadmill to be boring, but you're absolutely right in that it'll get the job done.

  6. Thanks guys!

I guess I was thinking that with such a giant ship with crazy options on board (a water slide?!), they might have state of the art gym options. But I used people don't cruise for the gym, lol.

NH, what a great tip. I guess I would just feel self conscious that people would look at my funny (or get run over, lol).

  7. Thanks for adding the options that they do have, Andrew. Here's to hoping that you've just passed the Expressos by and they are in a corner somewhere. Lol.

Although, I did notice that the cardio equipment looked older, and these bikes are very expensive, so perhaps it's just not worth it for them to offer such a piece of equipment? I work out in the local university gym, and they have all the gadgets.

  8. Hey! My first question-post about my first cruise!

I'm curious about the gym in the Liberty of the Seas. I'm specifically looking for the interactive bikes that have tracks and trails on them called Expresso Bikes. I have a link here to show what they look like: https://expresso.com/Home

It's really the only way I like to get my cardio.

I found some video tours of the gym online, but they are pretty old. So if anyone knows of a newer, more complete video (perhaps one made by RCI), has first-hand knowledge, knows a contact that I can call and check with, or is going soon and can check for me, that would be great!

A second question, do the group classes cost extra & is there a list of offerings?

Thanks so much! I really enjoy obsessing on this forum. We're going May 14th [emoji16]
