On another note, some have suggested that the H6's are cheaper.  In my experience, they have only been cheaper than some of the categories...not all.

Ok, yes.  Though I'm shopping for a family of 4, so the H5s aren't an option for us.  I look at the H4 and H6 mostly when pricing a room.  And on my next cruise, the H6 is currently $1,250 per person cheaper than the H4.  (Yeah, when pricing for 4 people - the H4 price is INSANE compared to the H6.)

The Jewel and Dawn class ships deck 11 2BR suites have windows in the bathroom that look out to sea

and one set  that looks out to the balcony.

Thankfully, there was no window here on in our suite on the Pearl.  That's just creepy.

LOVED that suite, and all the windows.  From a bathing perspective, you can't actually see the ocean from the window since you're sitting, but it's still nice.  Loved showering while looking at the ocean.

On a better note, my work was excited when I asked if there was any work I could possibly do from home while I'm not able to see my patients....TONS AND TONS of work. So, at least I'll be able to keep myself occupied.

    THAT's great news!

Here I sit in the ER after getting my ultrasound that revealed I have 2 boot clots. One in my calf and one behind the knee. 😭 I just knew it...😔

    THAT's terrible news.

  4. Oh my goodness!  Which sailing of the Jewel next year will you be on?  We're on the June 1 sailing.

As always, thanks for taking the time to post all about your trips.  It's one of the things that helps to tide me over between vacations.

Is there an easy way to find your other reviews?  I know I haven't read through them all and would love to.  I can't find links in your signature, on your profile page, and cc's search feature sucks now.

  5. Put this on the Cozumel forum last weekend but got no bites.  Trying here since it's so much more active.

Asked the kids yesterday what they wanted to do on our upcoming cruise (not until Spring Break, so we've still got a while!) and they immediately asked if they could do "that snuba thing."  I said I'll look into it.  Looking into it and I'm having trouble getting excited about it.  We LOVE to snorkel, but most of the videos and pictures I've seen I'm like "you could snorkel that just as easily" or "wow, look at the complete lack of coral here".  Does anyone have suggestions on a good place to snuba in Cozumel?  Or maybe help me understand that it is in fact really cool?

So far I've seen snuba available at 3 places.  Chankanaab (but we've been there before and I was hoping for something different), Sunset Restaurant near the International Pier (I think) but the videos I saw of there were terribly depressing - fish but no coral and a bunch of manmade fish habitat.  Honestly looked terrible to me.  The third place is at Jeanie's Restaurant downtown close to Punta Langosta (where we'll be docked and hey we can go buy a massive amount of vanilla at Mega later).  Didn't see much in the way of coral or even fish in the few videos I've found so far but there was a sunken airplane that you could go see, which was pretty cool.

Advice, please.  "Help me Cruise Critic, you're my only hope!"

  7. I've only been to Maya Key on Roatan, but we thoroughly enjoyed our day there.  I liked that it was small and its own island - that meant there were no people walking around trying to sell us stuff.  The animals were fun to visit, food was decent to good, the Mayan replica village and museum was interesting, snorkeling was awesome once you got out to the ledge, and the kids loved playing on the beach and in the water.  And letting the monkeys crawl all over them.  It was a very relaxing day because it was all right there and you could do what you wanted when you wanted for the most part - including leave.  I think they had boats leaving every 30 minutes.  Also it was literally a less than 5 minute boat ride straight from the same dock the ship was at.

That said, we're looking hard at Tabyana Beach next time, mainly because everyone says it's so amazing to snorkel there.

  8. Eileen G is right on Costa Maya and visiting Chacchoben.  You can climb a lot of things there but with the hour long drive to and from AND that you have three munchkins to look after, that's not your best choice right now.  That will be a good choice when they're 10-12+ and you trust them more (there's a lot of sheer drop offs and steep steps).  Beautiful and highly recommend it... but not when you have 3 small monkeys to make sure all come home in one piece.

I would have said Chankanaab in Cozumel would be a good option, as there's plenty of fun stuff to do there, including a replica Mayan village/ruins area that they could play with and not hurt much, but if you're doing Playa Mia...

There's always Maya Lost Mayan Kingdom water park in Costa Maya that has water slides and zip lining, all in a sort-of Mayan themed park.

  9. Ditto on being hugely thrilled to finally see a recent southbound review!  We're doing this in early June next year, also with a few days in Anchorage beforehand.

(And I completely didn't even notice the 9PM departure time, so thanks for noting that.  That gives us pretty much another day to explore.)  Please keep the details coming especially on Seward, since now I have to (ok, be serious, I *get to*) plan something fun to do there now too.

Happy late birthday to your son!

  10. A bit not answering your question, but are you REALLY interested in one of the observation decks?  We're (also a family of 4) sailing the Jewel in a 2br (non-haven) suite for significantly less than the Haven costs.  We still get priority embarkation/disembarcation, butler & concierge service, and suite breakfast and lunch.  We just don't have access to the little Haven pool or private sun deck.  But we'll have a nice balcony, Spinnaker Lounge for indoor observations, the top decks for all-over viewing, or the promenade for lower viewing angles.

For such a port-intensive itinerary where the real show is Alaska, this is the best of both worlds for us.
