http://www.sunny.org is a good source for FLL tourist and hotel info.
Roadway Inn is a budget motel near FLL often suggested on this board - I have no personal experience with the place.
Budget? Dates?
Not this Saturday, but the following--July 30th early morning, so I would need to reserve it for the night of the 29th with the understanding that we wouldn't arrive until the morning of the 30th.
I'd prefer to keep the cost minimal since we would only need the room for a max of about 5 hours, just to get a little shut-eye. However, I am not one to ever be able to sleep if there's an ewww factor in a hotel, so cleanliness is a priority!

I would book a room, let the hotel know that you will not check-in until about 6:00 and ask for a delayed check-out. Breakfast, shower, nap, pool time, etc. and then head to the ship about noon-1:00
Do you have any recommendations that would fit the bill?
Close to airport
Free breakfast
CLEAN
I've been trying to study the hotwire/priceline options, but also want to compare hotel websites directly with the military rates our family qualifies for to see if that's a better deal than bidding.
Thank you!

We land at FLL around 5:00 in the morning. I was hoping FLL would have a USO room that our family could rest in while passing time until we taxi to the port, but FLL does not.
We will likely be fairly tired after our red-eye flight, but at the same time excited for our adventure to start. I've thought about getting a hotel room close to the airport so we can sleep for a few hours, but our excitement might not allow us to rest.
I assume taxiing to the port at 6-7am is frowned upon and we likely couldn't get into the port terminal anyway, correct?
Any other ideas?

Gambee,
First I want to say that throughout reading your entire review I could feel the love and admiration you have for your mother. The care and concern you took for her, being ever mindful of her happiness and comfort, shows what a marvelous and attentive son you are. I am sure your mother must be wonderfully proud to have such a devoted son, but I also know such goodness and decency comes from excellent mothering. So your mother deserves as much recognition for a job well done as you do for being a shining example of human-kindness.
Next, thank you for such a fabulous review! We will be sailing Oasis in July. This will be our first experience with RCI, having sailed Carnival, NCL and Disney previously. I can't wait and your review has made me that much more excited!
At this moment you are on the Escape and I wish you another tremendous sailing! I will be anxious to read that review upon your return. In the meantime I shall start working my way through your past reviews. You have an excellent photo-storytelling ability and I love your zest for life.

Thank you for your advice. I'll contact Tours Plaza.

I'd like just a basic, overall sight-seeing tour of the island. Is there a company that does this on Costa Maya?
-
Since there are only two of us, my mother and I, I'm hesitant to arrange Tours Plaza ahead of time since we'd really like to keep our costs lower, if possible.
Are there plenty of reputable tour operators, perhaps even Tours Plaza, waiting at the dock for customers to fill up their vans? We're just looking for an island overview tour.
Thank you!

I will be cruising next month with my mother who has no desire to leave the ship. I'm wondering if it would be best for me to stick with only cruise-sponsored excursions, or if I would be safe going solo on an independent tour? I'm a 40 year old female, looking for either a tour of the island with some beach time, or just some quiet beach time without the tour, preferably with minimal walking involved as I am still recovering from ankle surgery. Your advice and recommendations are requested.
If you can advise on the following ports, in addition to Cozumel, that would be helpful. I didn't want to be redundant and repeat this post on the other port boards.
Cozumel
Belize
Roatan
Costa Maya

I would love to hear how the Piano Bar entertainment is on the Grandeur.
Would also be interested to know how busy (or not) the fitness center is.
