  1. One last photo from me on this thread.
Ventura, Zeebrugge, Feb 8th 2020. A fairly uninspiring shot but significant because it was the last picture I took on a cruise ship. We weren’t even supposed to be in Zeebrugge, it was meant to be Amsterdam but the weather was so bad the itinerary was changed. How could we have known at the time that the change of port would mean that this could come at the end of this thread, which seems strangely fitting.

Thanks again Damian for kicking this off, and to everyone for the great pictures. Has anyone counted how many places we’ve covered?

Zeebrugge on Oceana February 2018. We went to Ypres and was very lucky with the weather as you can see.

I was going to do a couple from Ypres but I’ll just let everyone enjoy yours as they would be very similar.  It was one of the best, if not the best, excursions we’ve done. Our guide was excellent and it was very informative and very, very moving.

  3. Here’s a rather tenuous ‘W’ - Wight, Isle of. It’s the dark grey bit between the two other grey bits and behind Oceana, making her way down the Solent for the last time. Sorry about the poor quality of the pic, it was a wet and windy evening and we just sat in the car watching sadly. The only words we exchanged were ‘poor Oceana’.2E5BE711-EBF0-441C-87C6-6581A6A9D209.thumb.jpeg.f19a8abf9188a430063a4907785b92d6.jpeg

Santa Cruz de La Palma - Boxing Day 2013

Aurora in harbour, can't rember name of other ship

"Ye olde cruise ship" aka a replica of the Columbus's Santa Maria

This port was not on our original itinerary, High winds and rough seas prevented us getting in to Lisbon, so the captain found us this berth in La Palma in the Canary Islands. Santa Cruz was a wonderful town to stroll around in Boxing Day, The Guy in the purple shirt is Tom O'Connor who was on board as one the speakers, think it took him an hour to walk up the street, as people kept stopping to chat to him.

Tom was on Arcadia a few years back and did a very entertaining show.  I passed him a plate at the breakfast buffet and while I’m sure others have better claims to fame I’m proud of that one!

We called at Reykjavik on Arcadia in 2012 but didn't take a single photo in the city or port, as we were out all day on the 'Golden Circle' tour.

So I'll just post a photo of the geyser that we saw - I could have watched it all day

We were exactly the same on Aurora in 2018. Loads of photos from the Golden Circle and not a ship in sight.

  6. Sorry but I couldn't resist this one - P is for Portsmouth!  Not a cruise photo but from an evening dog walk at the top of the harbour - there is a cruise ship in it though, a Princess ship passing the harbour entrance as she makes her way out from Southampton.  HMS Queen Elizabeth is also partly visible on the left.

The next 2 are a bit more sensible and from Palma, Ventura/Navigator of the Seas and MSC Fantasia.

Glad I'm not the only one Damian🤓. I can't stand the not knowing. I had to research Nosy Be. Ahhh!! 😬

    Avril

You can’t stand not knowing! How do you think I felt - I took the picture. I was there, wherever “there” was......!

Joking aside thank you Damian for clearing up the La Palma/Lanzarote confusion. I was pretty sure it was La Palma but somehow the pics from that cruise have all got a bit disorganised.

  8. I know we've been there before under 'J' for Jamaica but here's a couple from Ocho Rios - Celebrity Century (now Marella Explorer 2) and Regal Princess - as far as I'm aware she's still Pacific Dawn as she never made it to CMV as Amy Johnson.  The quality may not be great as these were taken from our hotel during our honeymoon in 98 - back then cruising 'wasn't for us' and we just had a passing interest in the ships that came and went.  We know better now.....

The next 2 are Oslo during Aurora's Xmas markets cruise last year. No cruise ship in these but I just like the pictures!Ocho1.thumb.jpg.c27cbb42a202ff2cef05c00cd4f28e42.jpgOcho2.thumb.jpg.703bfcb982381668138a544ae07b3b01.jpgOslo3.thumb.jpg.380fffbbcaca7137a4783cec842490a0.jpgOslo1.thumb.jpg.78b996c4cfc5a886f9dc766a309724d1.jpg

  9. Forgive me for being a bit late but here's a few Ls & Ms:

Ventura in Lisbon, the first port on our first cruise

    Oriana approaching Lisbon

Oceana in La Palma, or could be Lanzarote, somewhere in the Canaries beginning with L anyway....

    I love Scotland

So do I! A few years back we hired a boat and took it through the Caledonian Canal.  It was a good holiday but cruising just ain’t the same when you have to be captain, waiter, chef, entertainment staff and cabin steward yourself!

  11. I’ve got a ‘J’ but will need to bend the rule slightly as I don’t have a photo.

During Oceana’s repositioning from Dubai last year a passenger was taken ill as we transited the Red Sea and we diverted to Jeddah in Saudi Arabia so that they could be transferred to hospital.  There were strict measures imposed to comply with local customs while we were alongside; no alcohol was served, we were instructed on how to dress modestly and were told no photographs, hence the lack of pictures. We were warned that the security services were watching and this would continue until we were back in international waters.  I’m sure photos of that day exist but to be honest I was too scared to take any!

The most important thing of course is that the passenger was safely taken to hospital and by all accounts the Saudi authorities did everything they could to look after them and their family.  It certainly was an interesting day...
