Oh that's excellent to hear, and that's a nice touch with the rubber gloves! I'll have to pick myself a pair. I'm thinking about doing the one where we all get to paddle but not sure how hard it is to do? What kind do shoes did you wear? Watershoes or Sandals?

Has anyone ever done the white water rafting in the nenana river in Denali?

Hello, I am doing the 12 day Denali/Alyeska cruise your in July and wondering if anyone can answer this question about the Denali portion..

It includes the tundra wilderness tour but I am wondering if I can upgrade to the kantishna experience tour?

For sure seeing the whales is amazing, we've done it out of Vancouver a couple of times. We love to visit BC area as we have friends there and try to do a whale watching tour every time. Not always successful for Killer whales (Orca whales) but always successful with whales.

 

Make sure you offer up the tour you want frequently on the thread... not to annoy but to let others know what you need/want.

That's great advice, I'll do that. Although I feel like it's tricker since I just read the post that we are not allowed to post messages inviting people on excursions or sharing charters. The only place you are allowed to do this is on your own roll call. So I'll have to wait since there's hardly anyone there lol

Well, you're doing great!! If you need a little help read the info supplied here by CC, it explains how to set up a M&G and what to do. I know it may not by on your agenda but the best thing I did was to offer to set up the Meet & Greet and our RC has been active ever since. If you don't want to do it, ask if someone else will take the lead, you'd be surprised how much pax appreciate being asked for their help.

The reason I signed up for This site is actually because, see, I'm going myself on my cruise and I wanna do this one independent whale watching tour that has been getting all amazing reviews on tripadvisor. They take no more than 6 people on their boat. When I emailed the owner she told me that they can't just book one person, I have to wait until others book. She suggest I sign on this website, find my roll call and message others to see if they are willing to join me on this tour. Apparently this tactic works..

I hear ya about the RC, ours was pretty small until 2 months ago... we sail next month. Have you checked out the Alaska forum?

You've been very helpful, thank you very much :). Ok that makes sense, so maybe in another month my roll call will start to get busier, I'm sure of it. I'll definitely check out the Alaska forum :). I just signed up for cruisecritic on the weekend and still figuring it out lol

Well, for us it was at 70 days, no guarantees but hopefully yes, another month. Not been to Alaska, no, but many others have. Have you joined the Roll Call where you can meet others who'll be happy to share info re excursions and other things of interest?

We could download our Edocs at day 70 but got no email notification. I just login to myNCL and check once a week.

I know for some it's closer to the sail date but we and many on our Roll Call did receive them early.

Hi, my cruise is on July 6. Ya I just logged into my NCL, said I will get an email notification when my edocs are ready less then 60 days out. I am just super excited that's all lol! 100 more days! :D

I think people are looking for you to elaborate. What specifically was wrong with the tour?

It's not the captains fault if there were no whales to be found or the weather was crappy, but there are things under his/her control that can make a trip unpleasant. ie was the boat dirty, toilets dirty, capt under the influence (as happened 2 yrs ago with another vendor), poor narration during the trip. What was so bad?

Wasn't only me who thought the tour stunk, also the other folks on board, they to thought the same thing. It just wasn't that great!!!:(

Well you know everyone is entitled to their opinion. But on tripadvisor.com, everyone is giving them super amazing reviews. So I think it just comes down to how much of a nature/wildlife lover the person is, and how much they appreciate the beauty around them. After all, you're not there everyday lol

I saw good reviews for them on Tripadvisor, then came onto Cruise Critic and see most people here recommend Glacier Wind or F.I.S.H.E.S. Does anyone have experience with Icy Strait Whale Adventures?

Hello, I discovered FISHES also among my search for independent tours in icy strait. They sure do have all amazing reviews and definitely have me sold, rather then doing the regular whale watch tours from the cruise, they're so much more expensive, crowded and noises. I emailed them and the lady said she can't just book one person, because I am a solo traveller. So I am just waiting for other people to book :)
