  1. Would like to know the Zumba schedule and what nights are formal. Thank you!! Have an awesome vacation and Happy Thanksgiving!

Zumba is basically everyday at 8:30 and at 5 . They alternate the location between the Sports Deck and Princess Live. Once I get home I can confirm the schedule. I think there was only one day where there was only one class . My DW was quite pleased with the Zumba offerings. They also had a Brazilian line dance class that could be consideredImageUploadedByForums1385341202.993557.jpg.641b7ca832182bc33f041ac9410707dd.jpg Zumba lite. On the last day my DW had three Zumba/ dance classes in a 4 hr period of time.

The pictures are from Ned's Brazilian line dance class in the Piazza.

  2. Here is my. I I review of my room...

The balcony is huge and I love the location. However, many (especially Elites) may find this location noisy. You do not hear the MUTS ,but I occasionally did hear the live bands or DJ. In addition , you can hear a lot of sounds from above you. I think it was from the crew cleaning the deck or moving loungers etc. Typically, you could hear this at night or early morning. That being said , I took it as the price to pay for the location and yes I would book the cabin again and in fact I did book it on the Regal next year.

  3. Are the exposed balconies those on Caribe deck? The balconies that are half exposed, half covered? Hoping someone can answer. I have a Caribe balcony on the Crown. I see two levels of balconies. Are these on the Caribe and Dolphin decks? And which is which?

The lowest visible deck is Dolphin , the one above it is Caribe.

  4. I am in L302 on my cruise next week and I have been trying to do a bit of research on the cabin, but I have also found very few details. From the cabin description and the layouts it appears that the balcony is slightly larger, however I am not sure how much of the extra space is actually useable. I have combed through tons of pictures of the area and in some pictures it looks like someone put a chair there. All things being equal, I know I should have at least the same amount of space as everyone else , anything else I will consider a bonus. My one reluctance is that, obviously the AFT wall creates a sort of blind spot . I will try to take some pictures as soon as I board next Sunday and post them to this topic.

  5. Extending lunch time past the time the dining room is open

To be fair, there are numerous food options and I believe most people eat in the buffet during lunch. Having events scheduled during the during what is traditionally lunch time will flatten the peak demand. IMHO , if they don't do this we would here more complaints of delays in getting tables and poor service.

  6. I think the problem was there was a lecture from 12 until 1 and then another from 1-2.

Better scheduling would have let those who like to each lunch sometime between 12 and 2 do so without missing a lecture.

It is likely the scheduling is done on purpose in order to extend lunch time such that there is not a crush of people trying to,eat at the same time.

  7. My understanding of the SOLAS requirements is that there is a maximum height above the waterline in which the lifeboats are to be located. This is intended to reduce the launch time, however this can be higher if the intent is to protect the lifeboats from damage. Nevertheless all contemporary cruise ships have the life boats closer to the hull and not high on the superstructure.

  8. The following comments are not meant to start a war, but I have heard so many comments about rude and demanding passengers. I have to wonder if the fact that there were so many elites on board that created this atmosphere.

I have witnessed in many situations where people with status have the "Do you know who I am" syndrome. Obviously , this is not the case with everyone or even the majority, but it just takes a few of a similar mindset to ruin things.

Finally in regards to the ship, I think they was a huge expectation that Royal would be a larger Grand type ship with enhancements. I have noticed that Princess has a very loyal following. The Grand class ships are very similar . On other cruise lines, individual ships from the same class have different themes and the names of public spaces and decor are tailored to the theme. The similarities of the Princess ships make people feel comfortable. Deck 6 on the Crown is identical to Deck 6 on the Emerald including the names of the public spaces. This would never happen on RCCL or CCL.

Essentially, Princess threw everyone a sort of curve ball. Features that loyal passengers have come to expect have been changed. It doesn't make the ship bad just different. My guess is that in time, this ship and its twin will convert many to the Princess brand and that it will be found that those with experience on other cruise lines will appreciated the differences more that those that expect the Wheelhouse bar to always be on deck 7 directly across from Facets.

  9. The best excursion in Cozumel is standing on the Lido or relaxing on the balcony watching the drunks run down that long pier. ::eek::D

I agree and the best part all of this entertainment is free. In fact I would love to see a cruise director actually add it to the fun times. Can you picture this:

    3:00 Everyone on Board

    3:25 Watch the Pier Runners

    3:30 Sail Away from Cozumel

3:30 Wave to the drunks at Fat Tuesday who missed the ship

P.S. Keep in mind that the butt of my jokes are those irresponsible passengers who don't care about anyone else. If someone had a legitimate problem (accident / vehicle breakdown etc.) I would hope the ship would make an accommodation . In this case a call to the port agent would make sure that they were taken care of , however according to several cruise directors I have spoken too about this subject only small percentage (<2%) have a legitimate reason.

  10. From what I remember the room key was a hard plastic rectangle shape with alot of holes on it that acted like a bar code nowadays. Seemed like every room key had a different hole pattern for their door.

That is correct. each set stayed with the room in a little box just inside the door.

  11. My first cruise was on the Tropicale back in August of 1989 for my honeymoon. At the time the Tropicale was sailing from Los Angeles. I still remember the funky key with the holes you used for your room. All the cabins were open when you boarded and you would find your key in a little box on the wall near the door. I also remember formal night, everyone wore a tux back then. The big news back then was the upcoming launch of the Fantasy. It was big deal back then , Carnival was very proud of the new ship they were about to introduce. From our standpoint the ship was amazing, but it was a much different experience than what you have today.
