  1. There are no decks with larger balconies as on the Grand Class Caribe deck . There are a few select cabins midship below the skywalk or sea view bar and there might be a few aft cabins as well.

  2. No apologies from those who disputed me when I stated that captain Bob Oliver had told us during our August cruise that the stairs would be open to the public following the September dry dock!

One poster even said the Captain didn't have the authority to know or make the announcement. What a ****head.

Of course you won't get any apologies. I also posted this info as both captains (Nash and Oliver) mentioned the stairs during my 2-week Mediterranean cruise at the Platinum / Elite party. I got a lot of venom from the so called "well informed / in the know) .

  3. Like most people , once I am on board my wallet goes in the safe . I like having a hole in my card so I actually bring my own punch now so that I don't even have to go to guest services. In the past , especially when we sailed Carnival, I would always have the card on a lanyard . Nowadays, I use a smaller clip that I can use on a belt loop or attach to my backpack. It's small enough that I can throw it in a pocket in my dinner jacket or slacks . It is also discreet enough that it doesn't give the impression that I am waving my card around so that people "know who I am" which seems to be the case with a small portion of the black card bunch. Lol. IMG_1477245100.365686.jpg.19402f053263819c48cf3bd0d417b093.jpg

  4. For our upcoming cruise , it took roughly a week from the date I faxed it for it to show up on the personalizer. I miss the near instantaneous credit , but ultimately is still had it applied in time. I would have actually sent it in sooner , but I had to wait until the September statement was available in order to fax it as previous quarter's statement would be too old.

  5. I was just on the Royal in June. I had seen the concept pictures for the Majestic and I did not think I would like it. However , now that it's executed on the Royal I am growing to like it. I love the ship and I will be sailing on it again on 16 Nov and I am looking forward to seeing it in person .

  6. They stay outside of the cabin , they won't be on the balcony with you. They actually have a quite a bit to do as they have to run the food back and forth from the kitchen. The general atmosphere can be fairly private depending on location . From my standpoint it worth every penny , especially if you are enjoying it with a special someone.

  7. Sorry, Should of added a few more details. Ruby princess docks at 0700 and a domestic flight out to LAS.

Although some may disagree, I wouldn't book anything before noon at the absolute earliest. The reason is threefold:

Delays clearing customs off the ship

The notorious LA traffic ( it will take 30-an hour from the port)

LAX itself (check in and security)

That being said if you have status (ship and or airline) , are doing self assist etc. and have a prearranged transfer you could probably take an hour or so off of my recommendation.

  8. Personally, I recommend the bus . It's actually more of a Jitney . You will see them on Achterstraat St with a sign on the front that says "Maho Beach" . Service is very frequent and only about $2 per person each way. The drop off at Maho Beach is on the opposite side of the runway from the Sunset Bar and Grill so only a few hundred feet . It is also the normal drop off point for most taxis as it can take forever to get across the runway at peak times . The point is you can walk faster then drive the width of the runway.

  9. Hi! I'm on the Royal next week from Barcelona to Rome, and I'm wondering what nights were formal nights. I am trying to see if it is worth it to bring formal wear or rent a tux for my son. Do you know?

The formal nights on our cruise were on Monday and Wednesday, or basically the second port day and the sea day. It was the same for both weeks. I also agree people are better dressed than on a typical Caribbean cruise and although I did bring my tux , I would not have felt out of place without it. One other observation , people tended to get dressed up later , likely due to the port intensive itinerary and also the high ratio of Europeans to US guests.

  10. Stay in the center you won't regret it. It will take roughly 20 minutes to go from the the area near Gansemarket/ Alster to the airport via taxi. You could also stay near the airport and take the S1 to any of the center stations (Hauptbahnoff, Jungfersteig etc. ) , but I think you will find there is so much to do in the area that it makes more sense to stay there. The airport is fairly big , but very efficient. There are two terminals that interconnect . The security area is in the center area serves both terminals which then leads to a duty free area.

  11. I enjoyed it but if you don't like noise you would want to avoid it. You can hear a lot of movement from above and from the hallway. The noise above comes from the retreat area dragging carts or loungers and sometime you can hear what amounts to woman's heals . Also there is a service door near by where the bring up all the stuff for the area or bring through the laundry etc. It did not get quiet until after 1am and then started up again at 6am.

  12. Hi, Can anyone tell me how far it is from the port at Hamburg, Germany to the airport? Princess wants $99 for their transfer, is there a better way?

I go to Hamburg a lot due to my job. The taxi or subway system can get you to the airport easily. I would guess that the taxi would be less than 25 or 30 Euro and the train less than 3.

Personally I would highly recommend their train system. It is very efficient and takes you straight to the terminal.

There are two main cruise terminals in Hamburg (Hafen City and Altona) offer convenient connections to the S1 line which is the train that takes you airport.

Other cities could learn a lot from Hamburg .

Check out hvv.de/en and you can create a convenient timetable.
