Just heard from the Captain that the Grand has sustained some damage to one of its tender platforms, and that we have turned around to make an assessment in daylight. We were in route from Maui to Ensenada, but am not sure where we are at the moment, because they have turned off the tv channel that shows location, speed, etc. we seem to be moving forward (in some direction) very slowly.

 

Anyone land side who tracks the comings and goings of ships have any info as to our location, speed, heading?

That's what got me confused. The poster is saying a "split" is less than $10.

It is. They typically do not have open bottles of champagne for obvious reasons. If someone wants a glass , they get the split for $7.25 . If they want a full (750ml) bottle of korbel then it's $25.

This is good to know. Do you think you could have got one unopened, clearly for later consumption? If true then carrying champagne on board wouldn't be needed.

Yes it was always delivered unopened, but they would offer not insist to open it. We had a couple of extra in our cabin most of the time.

On the Royal , they had Korbel champagne splits. When I would get a mimosa in the morning they would bring a little bottle and the orange juice and it was covered by the AIBP

As said previously , you log in to the ships intranet service "Princess at Sea". Typically the address is as an example :

royal.princess.com or

caribbean.princess.com

You don't actually see the Patter , but all the events are listed , the hours and locations for all venues , your account info and a bunch of other information and in fact you can also message anyone you are cruising with or meet on the ship .

I did question them on the Royal & was told that it included ALL photo's that were on the boards.

 

I told my wife about that & she was talking to another passenger & they told her that they received only 6 photo's for that price. (I'm to assume they only had 6 photo's taken during the trip.)

 

What ever the correct story is, if you have any intentions of purchasing the package (if offered) I would pose for each & every opportunity numerous times and then you'll have dozens of photo's in your package.

We ended up with close to 50 pictures (prints and digital files) . The offer is for any picture taken by the photographers (boarding , port , casual , dining room , and formal night ) . The only ones not included are any platinum studio portraits .

As someone else said, they were already taking the pictures , printing and then dumping a bunch of them. We probably took as many pictures as usual , but we would budget about $100 for the trip. My guess is someone figured out it was best to tap into those passengers sitting on the fence and be able to get the $49 than lose out and throw the pictures out anyway. If they end up getting more revenue , then my guess it will be kept as there costs haven't changed. One thing that did change is that they are not taking as many pictures per sitting unless you ask, so that must be their way of controlling how many pictures people will get.

I have stayed in it a couple of times. The balcony is bigger than most, however there are a few things you may find negative.

1. It can be noisy . There is a service entrance that has a lot of traffic and you can hear a lot of noises from above. It sounds a lot like the towel racks or loungers being moved and this can happen at 2AM and start before 7AM. A lit of other random noises at night that sound like people walking above you (think high heels)

2. The view is great forward and directly to the side, but AFT is be impossible .

Other than any location on Lido offers great access to the main pool are on 16, the retreat pool on 17 and all of the other Lido attractions . You are also just feet from the elevator.

That is still the current standard package price. The $49 offer is a trial on the Royal. I guess they will look at the economics and the feedback they receive and then decide if they should spread it to other ships.

There were some bugs at first on the cruise and some people were getting grumpy (one long line to get the thumbdrive and another long line to get the pictures) , but it seems that now that everyone has the thumbdrive everyone is happy. I kept reminding the vocal grumpy ones how much they were saving and that the pictures in their hand would normally be hundreds of dollars and not $49. There is one other observation I did make, they are not taking as many per sitting unless you ask . They are only doing 2-3 instead of the usual 4-5 unless you ask for more. This is only the second cruise they tried this on and I hope they get a lot of positive feedback.

Could the price be dependent on the length of the cruise. Our 10 day was $199.

Ours is a ten day. They are testing this program and I personally hope they keep it.

They are trying a new photo package on Royal this week where you can get all the photos you have taken for a flat $49 including digital copies on a memory stick they give you.

They are still working out the bugs in the system , so people should be a patient and just go with it . Consider that for the the price of a couple of 8x10 you can have almost unlimited amount of photos . I wish they would have had this on our past European cruise and I hope that guests instead of complaining as I some have because of the occasional waiting times they just appreciate what a great deal it is .

Wrong!! You can only bring them back to the US if you buy them in Cuba.

Well at least until Inauguration Day we are legally allowed to bring in Cuban Rum and Cigars . Obama signed an executive order in mid-October permitting travelers to bring back Cuban cigars and liquor. See item 32 from treasury.gov

Look up,the habanos web site and look for the local distributors . They can give you the legit locations. As stated previously, Cuban cigars are popular for counterfeiters, especially in Mexico . If you are not familiar with Cuban cigars I would definitely do some research so that you can see the telltale signs of counterfeits.

In the past, I've always bought Cuban rum in St. Martin, but now that it can be brought into the US legally, the ships may start to stock it as well in the duty free shop. Since the law only recently changed, tt may be too early, only time will tell.

Typically , duty free shops that are not located on property controlled by US interests or where ships docked that were not exclusively originating from a US port have been able to sell Cuban rum and cigars. As an example , in Cozumel the duty free at Punta Langosta has Cuban rum , it the "Carnival Corp" pier Puerta Maya does not. Since the embargo is still technically in effect I doubt that any US based cruise company will sell it.

Supposedly , since about two weeks ago it is now permitted to bring back Cuban cigars or rum. My guess is that this won't last very long . :(

It depends on the port and what you mean by duty free. For sure you can find it in just about any port outside of San Juan or St Thomas. However in places like Cozumel ,you likely will not find it at the Puerta Maya duty free as it is controlled by Carnival. In this case you will need to go into town. If you tell me which port specifically I might be able to tell you what I have found. There are just too many to list individually. :)

Does anyone know if the Future Cruise office is typically open after departing the port of cruise origination? We are boarding on Nov. 16 and have determined that the 3 for Three sales event closes at 11:59 PM PST on Nov. 16 and would like to take advantage of this sale as well as getting $300 in future On Board Credits for placing a deposit at sea for 2.

You can always put the reservation on hold and then apply the Future Cruise Credit to cover the deposit . Since it's on hold you just visit the office once it's opens and let them know that you want the FCC and that you have a booking on hold that you want to apply it to.

BTW are you on the Nov. 16 Royal?

Renaissance Barcelona was where we stayed. It was a short walk to most of the popular locations from Las Ramblas to the Basilica of the Sagrada Familia. Plenty of restaurants and shopping nearby too.

I can answer the BOGO question . Basically any drink including soda. Buy one and get the second one either free or for an additional dollar. I don't think you can get bottles though .
